Tails wag for $4.4M park upgrade

Tails are wagging at the news that work to build Elizabeth’s first dog park will start in July.

The upgrade is part of a $4.4 million transformation of the underused eastern portion of Fremont Park.

Other improvements include an expanded space for community events, lighting, a public toilet and more than 5600 shrubs and 250 trees.

The newest additions to the park will complement the all-abilities playground, basketball court and barbecues installed in 2020.

Project Manager Blake Newman said the dog park will include two fenced off-leash areas, one for small dogs, and one for large dogs. will provide shade,” Blake said. “Families will be able to bring their dogs to run off-leash so they can enjoy fresh air and burn off energy in an enclosed space. The upgrade has been shaped by community feedback. Our city’s premier park will be even more exciting.”

Work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Fremont Park will be the City of Playford’s fourth dog park.

There are about 18,000 registered dogs in the City of Playford.

City of Playford is providing $2.3 million of funding and the State Government is providing $2.1 million through the Open Space and Places for People Grant Program.
