Our Vision
A world in which everyone can access quality healthcare and information to live their lives fully, without judgment.
Our Commitment to Diversity
Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) are fundamental to who we are and what we do at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas. We are an organization that values the communities and individuals we serve. Together with our supporters, partners, and team members, we foster a culture and engage in practices that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We work to eliminate disparities to build more equitable systems that improve access and health outcomes for all. We pledge to engage in meaningful and transformative action that improves the lives of the people of Texas and increases equity and justice for all.
Dear friend of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas:
For more than 88 years, Planned Parenthood has been a trusted resource for sexual and reproductive healthcare and education in communities across Texas. Texans count on our advocacy to expand access to healthcare until our shared vision is a reality — a world where everyone can access quality healthcare and information to live their lives fully, without judgement.
When Texas enacted the most extreme abortion ban in the U.S. in September 2021 followed by the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022, we knew it was more important than ever that patients could count on us for healthcare, education and advocacy.
gee from their trusted provider, Planned Parenthood. Texas’ abortion ban and other reproductive health barriers disproportionately impact minors, communities of color, rural, low-income, LGBTQIA+ and undocumented Texans. Over the past 10 years, Texas statewide elected officials have systematically blocked patients who rely on public health programs from getting care from Planned Parenthood. A recent study ranked Texas 50th in access to high-quality prenatal and maternal care, and Texas‘ maternal mortality rates highlight devastating maternal health outcomes, especially for Black women. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the U.S. yet failed to expand Medicaid coverage to help close the gap for the state’s most vulnerable population.
This makes our mission more important than ever. Last year, we provided more than 100,000 essential healthcare appointments through telemedicine and our health centers in Austin, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Paris, Plano, Waco, Tyler and surrounding communities. We reached more than 20,000 youth and parents with essential sex education. We expanded access to preventive healthcare, including birth control, through expanded weekend and evening health center hours of operation. Our newly renovated health centers in Addison, Austin, Dallas, Denton, and Mesquite highlight the quality of care we provide to our patients.
With your support, we continue working to meet the needs of Texans who count on us. Thank you for standing with us.
Ken Lambrecht“I’m not an emotional person, but it was just so relieving to know that I’m taking care of myself, and it’s affordable. I’m going to be okay financially, too.“

“Our El Paso Health Center is crucial. We are often the main healthcare provider and source of sexual health education for undocumented, uninsured, low-income, transgender or immigrant patients who may not feel safe seeking preventive healthcare in other settings or who cannot afford other options.”

Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is a public health provider that receives little to no public funding due to Texas’ political climate and ideologically driven policies that exclude Planned Parenthood from most government-funded programs in Texas. With donor and community support, and new federal Title X funding at four health centers, Planned Parenthood continues to be an essential part of Texas’ medical safety net.
Approximately 70% of Planned Parenthood’s patients have annual household incomes less than $25,000, and most of our patients are between 18 and 34 years old.
Insured patients choose Planned Parenthood for convenient, expert healthcare services. Planned Parenthood provides nonjudgmental healthcare services and is a trusted resource of healthcare and education for all Texans.

Texas is in a public health crisis as highlighted by Texas’ maternal mortality rate. According to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the national maternal morbidity rate in 2020 was 23.8 deaths per 100,000 deliveries. The 2020 rate in Texas was 72.7 deaths per 100,000 deliveries, and Black women died at more than twice the rate of white women 1
Unintended pregnancies increase the chances of negative health outcomes including delayed prenatal care, premature birth, and other health complications.2 Currently, 54% of all pregnancies in Texas are unintended3, more than the national average of 45%.4 Many Texans face barriers to healthcare access that further deepen health disparities. These disparities disproportionately impact uninsured, low-income, and undocumented Texans, communities of color, and LGBTQIA+ Texans.

Planned Parenthood’s health centers offer patient-centered contraceptive counseling that is comprehensive, high-quality and provides patients with information about the full range of birth control methods through an approach that affirms each patients’ autonomy and reproductive decision-making ability.

“I plan to use this information to make sure I respect my personal boundaries and others’ boundaries. I am also going to make sure that if I participate in sexual activities, that I be safe and aware of my decisions. The educator was kind and open. Other young people should learn about this!

Texas has the ninth highest rate1 of teen births and the second highest rate of repeat teen births2 in the United States.
Planned Parenthood’s three-part approach to community health education engages parents, educators and peers to reduce the rates of unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in Texas. Our signature education programs provide the skills and support individuals need to make well-informed decisions about relationships and sexual health.
Community health education programs are donor- and grant-funded, and available at no cost as a community resource for young people and adults.
Regardless of where young people live, they can access medically-accurate information about their health from professional education staff seven days a week via the Planned Parenthood Chat/Text Program
Teens who talk about sex with their parent(s) or another trusted adult are more likely to postpone having sex and more likely to make healthier decisions about sexual behavior. We get the conversation started through Talk First! or ¡Hable Primero! workshops provided online and in person.
Planned Parenthood's community health educators are trained to implement effective sex education interventions tailored to each group of adolescents and young adult participants. Lessons and curriculums are selected to meet the needs of youth in schools, after-school programs, juvenile detention programs, shelters, foster homes and other community settings.
The Austin-based Teen Council is a yearlong peer education program designed to develop leadership through sexual health education training and empowering young people to serve as peer educators. Planned Parenthood creates communities where Texans are informed and engaged on issues impacting reproductive healthcare access and sexual health education. Community engagement staff support advocates through events and trainings that inspire important conversations, develop and strengthen advocacy skills, and mobilize community members
to stand up for healthcare, sex education, and access to safe, legal abortion. Planned Parenthood staff connected with more than 6,500 people at community events like health fairs and speaking engagements, and hosted over 100 events including Bans Off Our Bodies rallies for abortion access, books clubs, movie screenings, and trainings to learn how to talk about and advocate for healthcare access.
Volunteers contributed nearly 2,000 hours on projects, including assembling period supply kits for local shelters and 28,600 kits containing pregnancy tests, emergency contraception, and condoms to distribute to patients and students on local college campuses.
