Pine Street is a Welcoming Church, Glorifying God through Worship, Fellowship and Service in the World.
Christ the King
Eternal God, you set Jesus Christ to rule over all things and made us servants in your kingdom. By your Spirit, empower us to love the unloved and to minister to all in need. Then, at the last, bring us to your eternal realm where we may worship and adore you and be welcomed into your everlasting joy; through Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
VOLUNTARY All Creatures of Our God and King Don Hustad (Please use the opening voluntary as a time of silent meditation and preparation for worship.)
SALUTATION
One: In Christ, all things hold together. Many: He is head of the church and Lord of all.
INTROIT Choral Fanfare for Christ the King
H. Hamilton Smith He shall rule from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth. All kings shall pay him homage. All nations shall serve him. He shall rule from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth. Alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia. Alleluia, alleluia. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not be taken away. And his kingdom shall not be destroyed. Alleluia, alleluia!
† Those able are invited to stand. Bold text is read or sung by all.
One: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Many: Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth be moved, and though the mountains shake in the depths of the sea.
One: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be shaken.
Many: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.
One: Come now, regard the works of the Lord. Behold the one who makes wars to cease in all the world.
Many: In the stillness of worship, we will exalt God among the nations. With songs of joy, we will praise God on this earth.
† HYMN 363 Rejoice, the Lord Is King
† PRAYER OF CONFESSION
DARWALL’S 148TH
Righteous God, you have crowned Jesus Christ as Lord of all. We confess that we have not bowed before him and are slow to acknowledge his rule. We give allegiance to the powers of this world and fail to be governed by justice and love. In your mercy, forgive us. Raise us to acclaim him as ruler of all, that we may be loyal ambassadors, obeying the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ.

One: God has rescued us from the power of evil and claimed us for the realm of Jesus Christ, in whom we have redemption.
Many: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God.

SERMON “Remembering What We Never Knew” The Rev. Seelman
† AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Confession of 1967
Biblical visions and images of the rule of Christ culminate in the image of the kingdom. The kingdom represents the triumph of God over all that resists his will and disrupts his creation. Already God’s reign is present as a ferment in this world, stirring hope in people and preparing the world to receive its ultimate judgement and redemption.
With an urgency born of this hope, the church applies itself to present tasks and strives for a better world. It does not identify limited progress with the kingdom of God on earth, nor does it despair in the face of disappointment and defeat. In steadfast hope, the church looks beyond all partial achievement to the final triumph of God.
“Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
One: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Many: And also with you.

CONSECRATION OF PLEDGES
ANTHEM The Last Words of David Randall Thompson He that ruleth over men must be just, must be just, must be just ruling in the fear of God, ruling in the fear of God, the fear of God. And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain, after rain, after rain. Alleluia, alleluia…Amen.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
