he “Local medicine, local care project” was initiated on October 1st 2019 and designed to help distribute medicine out of local hospitals and into local pharmacies in order to lower hospital waits for medicine pick up.

DRASTIC FOREST CLEARING CAUSES FLOOD?

T

hese are just photos from Google Earth, however, you can still clearly see that significant portions of the hill forest has been cut away, particularly on Nak gerd hill in Phuket. These areas have been cleared out by some major tour business investors. This doesn’t even show the damage also done to public drainage in the area as well.

These photos only capture a small portion of what is taking place, we need to call on the forest protection departments to come in and settle what is taking place here. Where are the departments responsible for this ordeal? Has any progress been made?

Phuket Times would like to formally notify and request government authorities to take action as the law requires.

Prab's Thoughts Research studies have proven that the ideal Patong development management model is to have the mayor in complete control of all administration!!

N

o matter what it is, the economy, society, environment etc., the keyword in making it all happen is the private sector, that is the people.

Because no matter who we have in leadership and politics, or regardless of the government structure set in place, we as the people still play an important role in the sustainability of our city in every area.

Therefore, I would like to call out the government to pay more attention to the people, the citizens of the land, by giving them more opportunity to have a part in the progress on the community. We need to allow the people to decide the future of the city themselves, give them the right to influence the land and city they live in.

The status of the representatives in the assemblies is also very important. Not only in the municipalities, but in all the political departments as well.

It is critical that we build up a representative that truly reflects the needs of the people. If we don’t choose the right representative, then we cut off the power and voice of the people from reaching leadership decisions.

“I want to see the community organizations and local leaders in the private sector stand up more in the assemblies. This way when various projects are being initiated or determined, we can really ask the people what they think. Do they really want or need the policies and projects that are getting approved? This is the most important thing, because today in Patong we are competing with many other world class tourism towns and we need well made decisions to get ahead.”

The power of the country’s administration, the democracy, is composed of the legislature, cabinet and judicial sectors. The administration is only one part that is designed to spread power out to the people giving them a part in developing the economy, society and environment to become more sustainable. If the government saw the importance of this sector the people would have more rights!

I want to see various departments in the government work through the people. For example, the Patong Municipality set a 82.5 million Baht budget to landscape Patong Beach and make it beautiful. However, why not let the landscaping ideas pass the minds of the people to see what they think? Was it s good design? Does the majority approve of the changes? This is a way we can respect the people’s opinion.

In fact, I think every project in the future of Patong should pass the peoples consideration first.

What kind of trees? What kind of flowers? These are all things that we can allow the people’s input a part in making a decision that benefits the entire city as a whole.

Why not allow the people a part

DEPUTY GOVERNOR JURIN CHECKS UP ON PROGRESS OF PHANG NGA AIRPORT

A

t the conference room in Phuket International Airport, Mr. Jurin Laksanawisit, the Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Commerce accompanied by his administration sat and listened to a summary of the Phang Nga Airport project’s progress. This meeting update was also joined Mr. Phakphong Tawiphat the Governor of Phuket and administration, related logistic departments including the Airport Authority of Thailand.

The meeting was closed by the Director of Phuket International Airport.

NATO ALLIANCE EXPERIENCING BRAIN DEATH, SAYS MACRON

resident Emmanuel Macron of France has described Nato as "brain dead", stressing what he sees as waning commitment to the transatlantic alliance by its main guarantor, the US. Interviewed by the Economist, he cited the US failure to consult Nato before pulling

He also questioned whether Nato was still committed to collective defence.

SA Group, the French owner of Peugeot, is exploring a merger with its US-Italian rival Fiat Chrysler, it has confirmed. A deal between the two carmakers would create a business with a combined market value of nearly $50bn

(£39.9bn). This is Fiat Chrysler's second attempt at a merger this year after it pulled out of an agreement with Renault in June.

Fiat Chrysler shares jumped 7.5% on Wall Street. The potential merger would face significant political and financial hurdles.

BREXIT DEAL MEANS ‘£70BN HIT TO UK BY 2029'

Some patients will not be able to switch and should not be made to feel guilty, they add.

oris Johnson's Brexit deal will leave the UK £70bn worse off than if it had remained in the EU, a study by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) has found.

It concluded that GDP would be 3.5% lower in 10 years' time under the deal.

The independent forecaster's outlook is one of the first assessments of how the economy will fare under the new deal.

ustralia has used a so-called "backpacker tax" to illegally tax foreign workers from eight countries, according to a landmark ruling.

In 2017, the government imposed a controversial 15% tax rate on two visa categories for working holiday-makers.

n "extreme red flag warning" has been issued in southern California, marking the first such alert of its kind.

The warning, issued by the Los Angeles weather service, covers Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties.

The winds are expected to reach 80mph

(128km/h) and there is concern they will help the fire, which has already burned through 658 acres, spread.

Some 1,100 firefighters are tackling the fire and over 10,000 structures are at risk, authorities say.

wo North Korean fishermen suspected of killing 16 fellow crew members before fleeing to the South, have been handed back to the North.

They crossed the maritime border on Saturday and were later detained by authorities in the South.

South Korea usually grants asylum to defectors but said that in

this case, the two men posed a threat to national security.

They were treated as criminals - rather than defectors - and sent back.

After crossing the border on their squid fishing boat, it took two days for the South Korean navy to seize them.

TUNANDFROM BODYSLAM BAND CELEBRITY FRIENDS RUN FOR CHARITY M

r. Phakphong Thawiphat, the Governor of Phuket, was the opening speaking in the event “Stepping forward together”, gathering Southern Thais together at Laguna Grove in Cherng Tale, Phuket.

The charity run was held from October 24th – 27th, running from Trang Province to Phuket a total distance of 315.6 Km. The run was joined by many different celebrities, music artists and Thai citizens from throughout the country. The total number of runners was 13,123 people which is a new record number for charity runs. The final leg was from Laguna Grove to XANA Beach Club a distance of 10.6 Km. The total charity raised concluded on October 29th came out to 40,445,099 Baht. This donation money was sent to 7 different hospitals in the Southern Region of Thailand. “LOCAL MEDICINE, LOCALS CARE PRO

T

he “Local medicine, local care project” was initiated on October 1st 2019 and designed to help distribute medicine out of local hospitals and into local pharmacies in order to lower hospital waits for medicine pick up. The National Health Insurance Office of Thailand was the main supporter of the drug prescription services lowering the cost of prescription service to around 70 Baht per visit.

Each pharmacy is funded 33,000 Baht per year to help cut cost and today there are 31 pharmacies in the project with 16 locations in

town, 7 locations in Thaland and 8 locations in Kathu. There are still more pharmacies looking to join the project in the near future as well.

In order to ensure the confidence of those with chronic disease on prescription drugs, those joining in the project will receive the same prescription drugs they received from the hospitals in the past. However, there will also be time to talk with a doctor for a free drug consultation.

The project pharmacies will also provide various health services such as measuring BMI and checking blood pressure. Once clients have had

a proper health check up, they can easily go and pick up the prescription drugs at any drug store nearby.

The Phuket Vachira Hospital has determined 15 chronic diseases that will be cared for by the project. The 15 diseases include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, stroke, chronic brain illness, Thyroid disease, hyperplasia, kidney stones, epilepsy, dry eye, Parkinsons disease (controllable), Glaucoma and SLE. Those interested in entering the project must accept policy and apply.

Pharmacies are a convenient way to provide local medicine to local people. This way we can lower the number of in and out going patients at the hospitals and provide more efficient care in the long run. So far 31 locations have joined the cause covering almost every area of Phuket with yet more to join in providing convenient local care that touches lives.

เครือข่ายสาธารณสุขภูเก็ต ขานรับ “โครงการ รับยาใกล้บ้าน ร้านยาใกล้ใจ” เพื่อแก้ปัญหาความ แออัดในโรงพยาบาล โดยมี 31 ร้านขายยาทั่วภูเก็ต เข้าร่วมแล้ว โครงการรับยาใกล้บา้ นร้านยาใกล้ใจ” เริม่ ด�ำเนินการตัง้ แต่วนั ที่ 1 ตุลาคม 2562โดยมีรูปแบบคือ โรงพยาบาลจะเป็ นผูจ้ ดั ซือ้ ตรวจ รับ เบิกจ่าย จัดยาและเวชภัณฑ์สำ� หรับผูป้ ่ วยรายบุคคล และจัดส่ง ยาไปที่รา้ นยาที่เข้าร่วมโครงการ เพื่อจ่ายยาให้แก่ผปู้ ่ วยรายบุคคล ตามใบสั่งแพทย์ โดยส�ำนักงานหลักประกันสุขภาพแห่งชาติ เป็ นผู้ จ่ายค่าจัดบริการ ค่ายาและเวชภัณฑ์ให้รา้ นยาในอัตรา (70 บาท / 1 ครัง้ ) และจ่ายค่าจัดบริการให้กบั ร้านขายยาที่เข้าร่วม (33, 000 บาท / ร้าน / ปี ) โดยร้านยาที่จะสมัครเข้าร่วมโครงการจะต้องผ่านการ ประเมินตามมาตรฐาน Good Phamacy Practice (GPP) หรือร้าน ยาคุณภาพ ซึง่ ปัจจุบนั มีรา้ นยาเข้าร่วมโครงการแล้ว 31 ร้านโดยแบ่ง เป็ นเขตอ�ำเภอเมือง 16 ร้านเขตอ�ำเภอถลาง 7 ร้านเขตอ�ำเภอกะทู้ 8 ร้านและยังมีรา้ นยาที่สนใจที่จะเข้าร่วมโครงการในเฟสต่อไปอีกด้วย เพื่อให้ความมั่นใจกับผูป้ ่ วยโรคเรือ้ รังอีกว่า ผูป้ ่ วยที่เข้าร่วม โครงการนี ้ จะได้รบั ยาที่เหมือนกับการจ่ายยาของโรงพยาบาลที่ผู้ ป่ วยรับการรักษาทุกประการ แต่จะมีเวลาได้พดู คุยกับเภสัชกรมาก

,000 runners from nationwide and oversea took part in the 15th Mai Khao Marine Turtle Fun Run and Half Marathon 2019 on this Sunday morning, starting from the Phuket Gateway.

Mr. George Varughese, General Manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa together with Mr. Phakaphong Tavipatana, Phuket Governor presided over the event’s opening ceremony, attended by runners, Phuket residents, expats and travelers.

The event is expected to raise Seven hundred thousand for charity in its 15th year. The money raised goes towards to The Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation, which is committed to protecting the marine and coastal environment and ecosystems for the wellbeing of the sea turtles that nest in the Mai Khao beach and the surrounding areas. It also the funds for the Phuket Marine Biological Center’s Injured Turtle Rehabilitation Program and The Third

Naval Area Command’s Turtle Hatchery Program.

Ltd. supports and welcomes 40 Miss Teen beauty pageant contestants during their south tour vacation time in Phuket The beauty pageant “Miss Teen Thailand 2019 Bye Hello” led 40 teenage beauty contestants for some vacation activities in Phuket to help boost tourism for the new generation. The girls came and paid respects at various sacred grounds in Phuket including the Heroine Monument.

At the end of the first day activities the girls were warmly welcomed at Bayhill Patong Resort by Hotel management and Pisona Tour Co. staff. On the second day, the 40 girls went to donate environmental pillows at the Patong Hospital which are made from coffee straws under the Phatana Muang Patong Foundation.

On October 30th, the teenage contestants entered the preliminary round where Miss Teen Thailand 2019 number #31, Pin Charinporn Ngerncharoen, 15 years old, from Suan Kulaabnontaburi, was awarded 300,000 Baht, the crown, sash and honorary cup as well as other gifting from sponsors.
