WHAT’S NEW WITH YOU?

My name is Mitchell Schilling, and I was

a student at Phoenix Christian who graduated with the class of 2018. In my time at PC, I made lifelong friendships and invested in my academic future, and I feel that it prepared me to work hard and chase after my goals with intentionality. Although classes like Calculus and Physics prepared me for a future technical degree, the things that really influenced me were my Bible classes and involvement in athletics. Old and New Testament provided a broad understanding of scripture, and classes like Practical Christian Living and Apologetics truly helped to establish my faith and caused me to think critically about what I believed and the life I intended to live. I also played football and basketball all four years, the fellowships formed and the life lessons I learned taught me to

work hard and lift up those around me and engrained a brand of character that has helped me to succeed in life after high school.

Since graduating from PC, I have gone on to earn my degree in mechanical engineering from EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University and am now employed full time as an engineer for the firearms manufacturer Sturm, Ruger & Co. in Prescott, Arizona. Embry-Riddle is a great school, and mechanical engineering is a difficult study; needless to say, that it was a difficult four years, but it was also incredibly rewarding. Currently, I am an engineer at Ruger over the department in our facility responsible for the production of gun barrels and get to do many cool things like program robots, buy and implement expensive equipment we need, and implement my own designs into the manufacturing process. In the near future I plan on becoming a design engineer who develops new products and improves existing products and would one day like to start my own business as both my dad and grandpa have done. In my time away from PC these last four years I also got married! In my freshman year of college, I was reacquainted with a girl I had met in high school, and by my senior year she and I were married. All throughout high school I prayed that God would provide me with a loving wife and a fruitful marriage, and I get to live that dream today. My wife Melissa and I intend to settle down and start a family in Prescott, Arizona, near our families, and are excited for the future.

My advice to those of you at Phoenix Christian is to think about what it is you want out of life and make intentional steps to take you there. Life is full of distractions and conflicting voices as to what you should do and who you should be, but I would also encourage you to be the person God made you to be, knowing that a life filled of relationship with Him and serving Him is the only thing that could ever satisfy.

I would...encourage you to be the person God made you to be.
