NEW LOOK

With the opening of the Spring Mill course, players will see a new slope and rating. The Golf Association of Philadelphia and their rating team were out in May and reviewed the Mill Nine. Overall, our ratings for Spring Mill were close to what they have been in the past, but did go down slightly with the enlarged fairways, greens, and more open sight lines.

The new scorecards will reflect the new yardages. Yes, we will have two scorecards. One dedicated to Spring Mill and one for Centennial. The stroke holes will remain the same as they have been on Spring Mill. However, we are asking for players to enter hole by hole scores in the GHIN APP to help us collect data. The data will be analyzed to see how holes are playing relative to par and also compared with high handicap and low handicap players.

A new focal point between the Clubhouse and the number one tee on Spring is the new Verdin clock which was installed. The clock features four dials and a handsome new look to allow time to be viewed from surrounding holes and practice areas. The new practice putting green has been enlarged and provides an amazing practice area for working on your putting. The chipping green adjacent to the road will receive some changes later this year to make the bunker smaller and enhance more fairway approach for chipping.

The Practice hole has been enhanced allowing for one of the finest areas on the property to work on your short game. The fairway was leveled

to allow for more flat spaces to hit shots from. While the addition of a second green allows for practice of both uphill and flat approaches. Multiple bunkers which simulate what can be found on the courses are now available. The golf professional staff is excited to utilize this area for our summer junior camps and clinics. These greens were the last to be seeded, as a result they are needing a little extra time. This area is now open. Please bring your own balls, shag bags are available with the caddie masters to borrow and return each day. When practice is completed , please be sure to rake bunkers and clean up the area when finished . Members are permitted to drive and park their road vehicles adjacent to the Centennial bathroom along the stone wall. Members driving a golf cart to the practice hole will need to stay on the path driving through the golf course past holes 11, 3, and 4, around the maintenance building and in between holes 14 and 7 Centennial.

New vistas are allowing members to have incredible views of our 302 acre campus. The Golf course now allows members on 16 to see all the way to the 8th fairway, while members on the Terrace can see even more golf holes like the 12th, 3rd, and 4th holes. The par 3s on the Mill Nine are sure to provide a great challenge. An example of some freedom of tees would be on hole 11 which we could use the back tee on Spring #6 or even the gold tee on #17 for different looks into the 11th green.

We are excited to see players enjoying the Mill Nine. Thank you to the members and all the staff for their efforts to get the course and property ready. I hope all of the members enjoy the course and embrace the new challenge. We look forward to your feedback and hope all will show it off to their friends and family.

If you need any assistance with your game, please be sure to reach out to the professional staff and schedule lessons. Paul Oglesby and Brenden Mitchell now have their schedules live on Whoosh to sign up for lessons.

TUESDAY LADIES GOLF UPDATE

2025 Event Results - Congratulations to the following Winners:

June 1st Mixed Vare Cup Winners: Michael Gradisek & Kim Gradisek

June 3rd Member-Guest Winners: Joanne Soslow, Stephanie Walters, Ginny Susini, Joan Lau

June 17th Member-Member Winners: Marjorie Ann Heany & Christine Kiernan

All Ladies majors are underway in June including the Club Championship, Handicap Championship and Better Ball of Partners Championship.

PRO TIP

When faced with a delicate greenside chip from heavy rough, try crowding the ball and getting the shaft more vertical at address . This will enable you to have the heel slightly elevated and the toe down in the rough . Practice short descending putting like motions where the toe contacts the ball and softly pops it up out of that nasty lie landing softly on the green and rolling out to gimme range!

RULES, RULES, RULES

In match play, playing two balls (uncertain about a ruling) is NOT allowed; this is only allowed during stroke play.

In match play, hitting the wrong ball is loss of hole; if A is playing B in a match, and both players hit the wrong ball, the player that hit first is assessed the penalty.

We look forward to our Thursday Ladies Member Guest on June 19th, along with our Inter-Club verses Waynesborugh on July 24th. Please reach out to Assistant Golf Professional, Harrison Graham with any questions.

ATTIRE ON THE COURSE

Now that the golf season is in full swing, it is important to recall the dresscode guidelines for the golf courses. Neat and acceptable golf attire must be worn on the golf course and all practice areas. Members are responsible for their guest’s attire as well.

For men, golf slacks and shorts no longer than four inches above the knee are acceptable. No cargo shorts, joggers, gym shorts, swim trunks, cutoffs, or denim of any kind. Shirts must be tucked in at all times, have a collar or be a turtleneck or mockneck. No tee shirts, tank tops, or Vneck shirts. Hats can be worn with the bill of the cap facing forward and must be taken off when inside the clubhouse or golf shop. Golf shoes are needed during play but sneakers are acceptable. The Club prohibits the use of metal, penetrating spikes and aggressive soft spikes on all three 9- hole courses and practice areas. No bare feet or flip flops.

The Golf Committee has a new rule allowing performance/technical hoodies that are purchased from golf pro shops or an equivalent retail outlet are allowed on the golf course, in the golf shop, in the locker room and in the Byron Nelson room. Hoodies that are cotton based, have drawstrings, or are marked with sports team, colleges, high schools, etc. are not permitted.

For Ladies, bottoms must be ‘mid-thigh’ length. Acceptable bottoms are twill pants, corduroys, capri pants, golf shorts or skorts. Shirts or polos must either have sleeves or a collar. Fitness attire, joggers, leggings worn alone, yoga pants, cutoff shorts, or jeans are unacceptable; tennis skorts are too short for golf and are not permitted on the course.

For Juniors, appropriate attire is similar to adults- collared shirts, skorts, pants or golf shorts. No athletic shorts, sweatpants or casual sweatshirts. Hats may not be worn backwards and shirttails must be tucked in at all times. Sneakers and/or golf shoes are required. Just like our lady golfers, our junior girls need to wear shorts and skorts at mid-thigh length; tennis skorts are not permitted.

Heres to another golf season. The opening of our Mill Nine and Practice Hole have been much talked about the past few months. The course looks fantastic and having two greens and bunkers will give our Members a much better place to work on all aspects of their short games: wedge shots, pitching, chipping, greenside bunkers, bump and run shots and putting.

Most of us realize how important driving and our short games account for the majority of the strokes we take when playing a round of golf. Practice hitting your driver while concentrating on center contact, we can give you some impact/face tape so you can

see where you are hitting the ball on your clubface, and directional control. Keeping your ball in the fairway will give you more distance off the tee and allow you to have more control when playing your second shots to the greens. Dedicate no more than one third of your practice time to hitting full shots and the remaining two thirds or more improving your shots around and on the greens.

You may be surprised how you could fairly quickly take a couple strokes off your handicap when dedicating your practice time in this manner!

Have a Wonderful Golf Season!
