Flocking Bow Valley is an interactive simulation of gender and sexuality-based marginalization and resilience. Through art, code, and community stories, Flocking Bow Valley aims to share the diversity of sexuality and gender experiences and how marginalization and resilience show up in our everyday lives.

Travis Luckert is an award-winning guitarist living in Canmore, Alberta. He began guitar lessons in Edmonton at age four. In 2020, he graduated from the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal, with a Bachelor of Music in Performance under the tutelage of Jérôme Ducharme.

Create a beautiful work of art that you can wear! Use fabric scraps, wire, and beads are combined in this up-cycling project. Weave together different colours and texture to create a bracelet to suit your unique tastes. Suitable for beginners.

Poetry Play ADULT SESSION

Polish up a poem! Participants in this workshop should bring one poem that is still in-progress. Each participant will read their poem, and with the guidance of Canmore Poet Laureate Tim Murphy, the class will offer peer-feedback and suggestions will be given to improve the spoken delivery of the poem.

Gender-Diversity and Storytelling ADULT SESSION 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Write your own story, whether fictional or true, featuring a gender-diverse hero. Start with just a three-sentence story, and then work up to a full page, while receiving the support of your peers. Reflect on your own gender-identity as you write. What would the world be like with more gender-diverse heroes?

This class is for potters ready to move beyond making basic cylinders to creating a range of dynamic forms on the wheel. Develop confidence and technical skills in wheel-throwing and glazing, as you make pots of your own design! Participants must have basic wheel throwing skills.

Advanced Ceramics

Class C: Saturday Mornings

These classes are designed to lay the foundational skills for working in clay. Participants will learn about basic handbuilding and wheel techniques, as well as processes for decorating, glazing, and firing. No previous pottery experience is necessary.

Independent Studio Are you an advanced potter looking for studio time and space to develop your skills? Independent Studio is an opportunity for developed potters to access the artsPlace ceramics studio and storage space. As spaces are limited, registration is required and some guidelines apply. All participants must have completed at least three artsPlace ceramics courses already, agree to take one intermediate level course or workshop between Fall 2021 and Fall 2023, be willing to offer a minimum of 3 hours of volunteer service to artsPlace during 2022 and attend an orientation covering the independent studio guidelines. Registrations will be approved by artsPlace staff to ensure potters are advanced and can work on their own. If artsPlace receives more applications than Independent Studio placements, a lottery will be conducted for placements. We will be accepting Independent Studio registration requests for the 2022 year this fall! Please indicate your first, second and third choices for which term best suits your schedule: Winter, Spring or Fall. Our 2022 registration process will open on Sept. 7 for members and Sept. 9 for non-members. A lottery for all 2022 placements will be held on Nov 30. Visual Arts Drawing Fundamentals

The Painter’s Clinic – Intermediate

Art Journaling

Nov. 8 – Dec. 6 (5 weeks) Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30pm | $140 / members $119 Materials included Explore the process of art journaling. You will play with acrylic paint, marker, paper collage, modge podge, stenciling, ink and stamping and other art mediums. We will start with a stepby-step process to create an art journal page, allowing you to develop the confidence and skills to create beautiful expressive art journal pages that are unique to you. Make Your Own Stickers

Oct. 18 – Oct. 25 (2 weeks) Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm | $75 / members $63.75 Materials included Stickers for your bike, for your water bottle, your skis, your laptop, your car, the sky’s the limit! Design your own outdoordurable and dishwasher safe vinyl stickers using art tools such as pencil crayons, markers, or water colours.
