SPECIALITY PROGRAMS UN World Creativity and Innovation Day Thursday, April 21

World Creativity and Innovation Day was innovated by Bow Valley local Marci Segal. It is now an United Nations International Day of Observance which focuses on using creativity and innovation to achieve the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The theme of World Creativity and Innovation Day in 2022 is Collaboration. The UN encourages communities to hold events that spread awareness of Collaborative Practice and how it relates to UN Sustainable Development Goal #16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. For World Creativity and Innovation Day, artsPlace is proud to be launching Emerging Artist Drop-in Thursdays. This will provide free space for Emerging Artists in the community to connect with each other and practice their art. We will also hold a special screening of Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, by film maker Alison Klayman, with a panel discussion with the Innovator of World Creativity and Innovation Day, Marci Segal.

National Indigenous Peoples Day Tuesday, June 21

National Indigenous Peoples Day celebrates the heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples! It is held on June 21 because this is the time of the Summer Solstice, which is the first day of the summer. Traditionally, this is a sacred time in many cultures all around the world, including the Stoney Nakoda People. artsPlace will partner with Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity on National Indigenous Peoples Day for meaningful familyfriendly activities. More information will become available on the artsPlace website closer to June 21.

Dave Gunning is best defined as a master craftsman. Over the course of 23 years and 11 earlier albums, the Nova Scotian folk singer/songwriter has diligently sharpened his skills, developing into a poetic storyteller and emotionally convincing singer with few equals.

Three Canadians lost in the weird and wonderful traditional country music of the American South, the band members Chris Coole (banjo), John Showman (fiddle) and Max Heineman (bass) are each journeyman musicians.
