Independent Studio is an opportunity for developed potters to access the artsPlace ceramics studio and storage space. All participants must: • Have completed at least three artsPlace ceramics courses already. • Agree to take one intermediate level course or workshop between Winter 2022 and Fall 2022. • Be willing to offer a minimum of 3 hours of volunteer service to artsPlace during 2022. • Attend an orientation covering the independent studio guidelines. Space is limited, and registration will be approved by artsPlace staff to ensure potters are advanced and can work on their own. We will be accepting registration requests for the 2022 year in Independent Studio. Please indicate your first, second and third choices for which artsPlace term best suits your schedule, Winter, Spring or Fall. If artsPlace receives more applications than Independent Studio placements, then registrants will be chosen for their placements by lottery. A lottery for the 2022 placements was held on Dec. 1 2022. Further lotteries for applicants will be held on an as needed basis throughout the year.

Photography Beginner Photography

Join writer and photographer Stephen Legault for an introduction to photography program that will take you step by step from how to hold your camera to how to master composition, lighting and the use of colour and black and white. This course will include lessons on a basic understanding of the photographic process, how to use whatever camera you have, the basic photographic techniques, how to process your images once you get them onto a computer, tablet or smartphone, and digital storytelling basics. You’ll need a DSLR and a computer with any free or paid subscription photo editing software suite. Instructor: Stephen Legault
