How People Tree make a sustainable collection... People Tree’s Spring-Summer 2015 collection reflects a relaxed lifestyle with a naturally soft colour palette of antique pink, evergreen and navy. This season’s prints in organic cotton poplin and organic jersey, reflect contemporary abstract designs whilst still drawing inspiration from nature. We use craft techniques like hand weaving, hand printing and hand knitting to revive traditional skills and promote job opportunities. Our hand block prints are ethnicinspired on ruffle blouses and tunics.
New organic cotton stripes are perfect for layering at the weekend or by the seaside (pages 44-45). Drawstring and gathered waists are key details on trousers, skirts and dresses. Rolled up hems on trousers and sleeves all add up to a relaxed tailored look. New shapes for this season also include a gorgeous maxi dresses and jumpsuit in organic cotton (page 11). These look great accessorised with our hand crafted jewellery (pages 54-57).

We visit our producers to provide design & technical assistance & Fair Trade support. Fair Trade transforms farmers, artisans and tailors lives and their communities, bringing better incomes, clean water, education projects, schools and health care. Since the Rana Plaza tragic factory collapse in Bangladesh people want to know more about how their clothes are made. People Tree has been campaigning on labour rights for garment factory workers for over 20 years. We are delighted that People Tree has proved that Fair Trade fashion is desirable and delivers huge benefits to workers and the planet. People Tree pioneered best environmental practice in the fashion industry – we started using organic cotton 20 years ago to support and protect farmers’ health, their land, soil, crops and water. As well as empowering producers, Fair Trade can change consumers’ lives too. Through our shopping, we can be part of the solution, not the problem. For World Fair Trade Day, 9th May 2015, People Tree has collaborated with Bora Safia Minney & Bora Aksu Aksu, Simeon Farrar & Bip Ling to create four unique pieces. Each demonstrates the power of Fair Trade fashion. Started in 2001, World Fair Trade Day was initiated by Safia Minney and the World Fair Trade Organization that takes place on the 2nd Saturday of May each year. It is an inclusive worldwide festival of events celebrating Fair Trade as a way to fight against poverty and exploitation and to promote sustainable production.
