Pentacle Theatre is grateful to The Lulay Group for their generous sponsorship, the contribution of a much-needed truck to support our Pentacle community.

When I first read this script, I couldn’t stop laughing— but I was also deeply touched by the story. What really stood out to me was how this quirky, lovable family, and others, stick together through all kinds of chaos. They show up for each other, flaws and all.
When I presented this show to the Governing Board for consideration, they loved it, too. However, I received thoughtful feedback about the presence of a gun in the show. These conversations made it clear that I needed to approach this aspect of the show very carefully. My goal has always been to stay true to the heart of the story, while also being mindful of the world we live in today. You never know what moment might unexpectedly affect someone.
I want to assure you that the entire cast and crew takes this responsibility seriously. The prop gun used in this production is a non-firing replica, which has been carefully handled throughout rehearsals. The actors and I worked together to ensure that we stay true to the story, without feeling threatening or out of place. Sadly, we live in a time where we can’t take these things lightly. Gun violence has touched schools, malls, theaters—places meant to be safe—and we want everyone in our audience to feel as comfortable as possible.
We hope you feel the love and effort that has gone into this production. Most of all, we hope you see a bit of yourself—or your own family—in these characters: loving, loud, supportive, and yes, occasionally annoying!
Thank you for being here. Enjoy the show!

Pentacle Theatre in Salem is located within the ancestral homelands of the Kalapuya, Yamhill, and Luckiamute people who have lived here since time immemorial. In the 1850s, these tribes were displaced by colonization and were eventually resettled on reservations. We celebrate and honor the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz members, their resilience, and their present and future right to this land.

Karen McCarty Director

Karen has been an active member of the Pentacle Theatre community since her husband, Chris, and her saw their first performance in 1999. They immediately knew this was a place where they wanted to volunteer their time. Since then, she has served on the hospitality guild, managing it with Chris for 20 years, and served on the Governing Board. She has also given her time on many committees that keep Pentacle Theatre alive.
Karen has directed five other shows at Pentacle Theatre. Her most recent shows were Ripcord and Exit Laughing. She directed two musical fundraisers performed at Elsinore Theatre: Cinderella and The Little Mermaid. Karen has been the costume designer for 23 shows and assistant director for 10 shows at Pentacle Theatre.
Karen recently retired (again) from DMV after working there for 35 years. This gave her more opportunity to volunteer her time at the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer. Karen is forever grateful to her family who has always supported her by bringing her meals during rehearsals, trying on costumes for fit and design, and building set pieces for her shows.

After agreeing to “try out” volunteering at Pentacle as stage manager for Exit Laughing, Anthony has never left. Since then he has been busy working behind the scenes helping with costuming for Gentlemen’s Guide to Love and Murder and Footloose, stage managing for Big Fish, and acting for the first time in 30 years in Ripcord. He also co-chaired the Script Reading Committee for the 2025 season. Anthony is currently the treasurer for the governing board at Pentacle.
Working with his theater mentor, Karen McCarty, this has been Anthony’s first time assistant directing a show, and he’s excited to take on more directing projects! When not at his first job at the state or his second job at the theater, Anthony spends time with his amazingly supportive husband, his family, and his friends.

After helping backstage with Big Fish (2025), Heather is delighted and honored to make her acting debut with Pentacle Theatre. Her previous theater experience includes four years directing middle and high school theater, assistant directing Holiday Inn with The Arts Integrated Ministry, and acting in a number of productions with Corban University. Heather holds a Bachelor of Science in English and recently earned her Master of Science in Education: Curriculum and Instruction from Western Oregon University. Her career goals include working in business curriculum/instructional design while staying involved in theater. Heather would like to thank her directors, Karen and Anthony, for their mentorship, her family, cast members, and friends for their support, and her roommates, Hannah and Kara, for listening to endless tales from rehearsals.

Jenni has been an actor, director, and light designer at Pentacle for more than 20 years. Last seen in Dashing Through the Snow (2019), she also performed in Sordid Lives, The Laramie Project, A Streetcar Named Desire, and others. She directed
1984, Incorruptible, The Underpants, and others. She did light design for Spamalot, Chicago, Into the Woods, and many others. She was also an actor, director, and light designer for many shows at The Verona Studio. Some favorite roles were as Jessie in 'Night, Mother, and as director of True West, Dead Man's Cell Phone, and others.

Travis is delighted to be a part of Pentacle's production of In-laws, Outlaws, and Other People (That Should Be Shot). He last appeared on the Pentacle stage as Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic & Old Lace. His other favorite past roles include Oates in Terra Nova, Wil Schneider in Red Line, The Earl of Bothwell in Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off, and Ralph in Frozen (no relation to the Disney musical).
Travis works as a hydrogeologist for the Oregon Water Resources Department and, in his precious free time, can be found fishing Oregon's sublime rivers, lakes, and coastline or grubbing around in the dirt of his garden. Travis would not have this opportunity without the love and encouragement of his wife, Valerie, and all the support he has received from friends and family. “A kindness is never wasted.” Aesop

After a 25-year hiatus, Roger is excited to return to the stage in his Pentacle Theatre acting debut. You may have seen him play Charlie in Edward Albee’s Seascape and John the Baptist/Judas in Godspell, if you happened to have been in Whitefish, MT, in the late ‘90s.
Roger would like to thank his family for encouraging and supporting his return to the theater, for Karen and Anthony taking a chance on casting a complete unknown, and the entire amazing cast for making him feel welcome.

Laura is very excited to return to the Pentacle Theatre stage. She is a theater supporter volunteering at local theaters. Laura has been involved in numerous Pentacle productions both on stage and backstage. She was assistant director for Pentacle’s production of The Cake. Her on-stage Pentacle shows include Jinx in The Savannah Sipping Society, Miep in The Diary of Anne Frank, and, most recently, as Mrs. Boyle in The Mousetrap.
Moving from California at the age of 10, she quickly discovered the Children's Educational Theatre acting program, and
her love of theater was set. She studied with the Young Musicians and Artist program. Laura graduated from the University of Portland with a degree in Communication Management with a Theatre Arts focus. Her passion is and always will be performing. She is honored and privileged to perform on the Pentacle stage. She sends her deepest thanks to her family for supporting her with all her theater adventures. Working with Karen and this amazing group has been a joy. Her hope is for the audience to laugh and enjoy this zany show.

Robin is thrilled to return to Pentacle for her second production! Her appearance in Pentacle’s production of Footloose in the 2024 season helped to reignite her love of theater after a long time away, and she is happy to be back onstage. When off stage, Robin enjoys travel, costuming, and exploring new artistic pursuits. She is mom to two amazing adult children and two incredible children-in-law.

Bud

Bringing this production to life amongst this incredible ensemble of cast and crew has been nothing short of frivolity, fun, and family for Mat!
A veteran of many musicals in the PNW, Mat has appeared on stage as the Emcee in Cabaret, Edward Bloom in Big Fish, Detective Hanratty in Catch Me If You Can, The Baker in Into The Woods, and Roger Debris in The Producers, to name a few. Stepping into the role of Bud Nestor has certainly been a highlight, and he is happy to add this to his theater resume.

Julianna has a rewarding career as a high school theater teacher. She has appeared at Pentacle in roles including Amanda Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie, Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, Princess Dragomiroff in Murder on the Orient Express, Rose in Dancing at Lughnasa, Poppy in Noises Off, Sonia in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Lenny in Crimes of the Heart. She has also portrayed Williamina in Silent Sky and Rue in Omission at Keizer Homegrown Theatre, Ruth in Blithe Spirit with Aumsville Community Theater, and Kate in Sylvia at
Gallery Theater. She’d like to thank Dixie for the encouragement, and the audience for supporting live theater. When not being dramatic, she enjoys camping, fishing, and Star Trek.

James is thrilled to be part of his first production at Pentacle Theatre. James found his love for the stage at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he played a pirate captain in the original musical, That's What Makes Them Pirates! He performed in two additional productions there, most notably, All I Really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten. James has done a handful of smaller performances since, regularly posts videos on social media, and can be found singing whenever possible, all of which has kept him in practice. However, this is his first stage production in 13 years, and he couldn't be happier to be back. He would like to thank his parents for always supporting his acting, as well as countless friends and family members who've been there for him throughout his life.

Every five years, the Pentacle Theatre Governing Board honors as Lifetime Members five people who have been active in Pentacle Theatre for at least 20 years. We also remember fondly those Lifetime Members who are no longer with us.

Audrey is a sixth grader performing at the Pentacle for the first time. Past roles include the Pirate Queen in a school performance of The Stowaway, various roles in Aladdin at Salem’s Children Education Theatre, and numerous performances at other local theatre classes. Audrey enjoys writing stories, creating short movies and spending time with friends. She is excited to have this amazing opportunity to perform with a wonderful cast.

Patrick is excited to be returning to the Pentacle Theatre stage! This show marks his tenth Pentacle production. Some of Patrick’s favorite past credits include: George Banks in Mary Poppins (Pentacle); Cogsworth in Beauty and The Beast (Pentacle); Mr. Mushnik in Little Shop of Horrors (Elsinore and Majestic); Captain Hook in Peter Pan (ACT); and Sir Lawrence Wargrave in And Then There Were None (ACT). When he isn’t on stage, you can find him working at Oregon State University, cheering on the Portland Trailblazers, or sitting in the audience of one of the 30-40 live theatrical productions he attends each year. Enjoy the Show!

Alyssa Parr (Coleman) is overjoyed to make her debut with Pentacle Theatre! She has previously performed in productions at Western Oregon University and with her high school troupe. By day, Alyssa is a proud educator with the Salem-Keizer School District, where she supports students with special needs in an LRC classroom helping them grow both academically and as individuals. In her free time, she loves curling up with a good book and her cat, Goose, or heading off on new adventures. Alyssa is deeply grateful to her friends, parents, and siblings for their endless encouragement and sends a special thank-you to her husband Kyle and her in-laws the Coleman family for always being first in line to show her support and cheer her on.

As I near the end of my three-year term on the Pentacle Governing Board, and my second one-year stint as its President, I can’t help but reflect on where we were at the beginning of 2023 and where we find ourselves now. Three years ago, we were still attempting to recover from the financially devastating impact of Covid-19. Although there have been some bumps in that road to recovery, along with staff changes and the challenges presented by an aging facility, I can say with confidence that we have made significant progress moving down that path.
While I can only claim a small role in this recovery effort, I can take this opportunity to give credit to several individuals who have made truly significant contributions, starting with two fellow Governing Board members who are also completing their three-year terms. Katie Lindbeck is wrapping up her third year as our Vice President and has worked tirelessly in all aspects of our theater business, but most particularly on achieving financial stability. In her first year, Kelli Swanson Jaecks served as our secretary, following that with heading our Development Committee, and has been a strong voice in guiding policy and decisionmaking.
I must also note the outstanding work of our dedicated staff—the leadership and responsiveness of Executive Director Steven Trahan, the reliability and excellent customer service of Box Office Manager Kimberly Houser Taylor, the insights and expertise of Bookkeeper Christie Smith, and the craftsmanship and creativity of Technical Director Chris Benham. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with all of you!
