At Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, we believe that every home built is more than just walls and a roof it’s a testament to faith, perseverance, and community Each of you are living proof that when we come together in love and service, we can build not only homes, but brighter futures. As it says in Hebrews 3:4, “For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” Your home is a sacred space, a place where memories are made, laughter is shared, and love grows. It stands as a symbol of what faith in action can achieve Let this be a reminder: you are not alone on this journey You are part of a community rooted in compassion, supported by prayer, and strengthened by our Vision that everyone deserves a decent place to live May your home continue to be a sanctuary of peace, joy, and purpose.
With blessings, Monique Turner

MONEY MINDFULNESS
STRETCHING YOUR DOLLARS AT HOME
Being a homeowner means more than just paying your mortgage - it’s about making smart choices that save you money and protect your investment. Here are a few mindful ways to stretch your dollars and make the most of your home:
Cut Energy Costs: Small changes like sealing drafts, switching to LED bulbs, and adjusting your thermostat can lower utility bills and keep your home efficient
Shop Smart for Repairs: When maintenance is needed, get multiple quotes, look for sales, or consider DIY for small fixes to save money without cutting corners.
Plan for Seasonal Expenses: Set aside funds each month for seasonal needs like lawn care, hurricane supplies, or holiday decorations to avoid surprises
With a little planning and awareness, you can keep your home affordable, comfortable, and ready for anything , while keeping more money in your pocket!

SEASONAL HOME MAINTENANCE
Replace HVAC Filters Monthly – Especially in homes with pets or smokers, monthly filter changes ensure better air quality and reduce strain on your system during peak cooling months.
Clean Refrigerator and Check Coils – Discard expired food, wipe down shelves, and vacuum dust from refrigerator coils to improve efficiency and prolong the appliance’s lifespan.
Test Smoke Detectors and Replace Batteries – Functioning detectors are a critical safety measure, particularly during high-energy summer months when appliances are running constantly.
SEASONAL YARD CARE
Inspect and Wash Windows – Clean windowpanes and check seals to maximize natural light and prevent water intrusion during Florida’s rainy season. Clear Gutters and Downspouts – Remove leaves and debris to ensure proper drainage and avoid water damage during summer storms.
Apply Insect Treatment Around the Home – Use a perimeter spray to reduce mosquito and ant activity, which tends to increase in Florida's warm, humid climate.
Water early and deeply to beat the heat — watering your lawn and plants in the early morning helps them absorb more moisture and reduces evaporation during the hottest part of the day.
MATT’S MAINTENANCE MINUTE
"Hurricanes might not strike every year, but being prepared is essential especially during peak season from June to November. Now is the perfect time to make an evacuation plan, review your insurance, and sign up for local alerts. Be sure to put together an emergency kit with essentials in case the power goes out or you need to leave quickly. Simple steps like keeping your gas tank at least half full, checking your generator and shutters, and knowing where shelters are can make a big difference. Don’t forget page 2 of this newsletter highlights additional resources available to you through the Homeowner Hub."
