SERMON OUTLINE

WHEN THE WORLD IS SHAKING

Psalm 46

“The supposedly ‘solid’ things of the world—whether mountains or nations—are flimsy. We need (and get) something more substantial than either nature or civilization can provide—a secure habitation in God.”

– Eugene Peterson

Three images that anchor your joy:

1. The Fortress

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (v. 1-3)

The L ord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (v. 7 & 11)

2. The River

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. (v. 4-5)

3. The Broken Weapon

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts…. Come and see what the L ord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (v. 6, 8-10)

It doesn’t say here that God will help you if you get into a strong refuge. It says he is that refuge…. If God is with you, even the worst thing that happens to you—death—only makes you infinitely happier and greater.”

– Tim Keller

Daily Dwell: December 7-13

“He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God…” - Psalm 46:9–10

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.”

—Proverbs 11:30 (NIV)

In January, Peachtree Church will begin a yearlong journey through Cultivate: Life Together in the Spirit, inviting our whole congregation to grow in faith together. Every month we will explore a different fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control— and discover how God nurtures these qualities in our lives. Join us as we look forward to a year of deeper transformation and a closer walk with Jesus.

We believe lasting transformation happens best in community.

November THE FRUIT OF YOUR LIFE

Introducing Cultivate by Dr. Kannwischer

PEACHTREE CHURCH

Available January 6

Peachtree Church is thrilled to celebrate the release of Cultivate, the first book by our Senior Pastor, Dr. Richard Kannwischer! Rooted in the fruit of the Spirit, Cultivate invites readers to experience genuine spiritual transformation as God, the Master Gardener, renews growth and new life within us.

Launching January 6, 2026, this book aligns with our focus for the coming year and invites us to become a people who open ourselves to God’s ongoing work of restoration in both our personal lives and in our shared life as a congregation.

Scan the QR code for more details and to pre-order Cultivate: How God Grows the Fruit of the Spirit within Us.

Peachtree Church extends its sincere appreciation to the Peachtree Trust for generously providing the funds to purchase our new hymnals.

A hymnal is a theological resource, a teaching tool, and a tangible expression of our shared worship. It unites our voices across generations and seasons, strengthening the spiritual fabric of Peachtree Church. These hymnals will help shape our praise, deepen our discipleship, and enrich our life together for many years.

Founded in 1983, the Peachtree Trust offers members and friends of Peachtree Church the opportunity to leave planned gifts that create a lasting legacy. Trust gifts support long-term ministry, local, and global missional needs and continue to bless our congregation well beyond a single season.

If you are interested in learning more about including the Peachtree Trust and church in your estate plans, please contact:

“Why do Christians sing when they are together?…we sing words of praise to God, words of thanksgiving, confession and prayer.”

MILESTONES

Just as families keep in touch about joys and sorrows, our church family at Peachtree wants to do the same. During your prayers this week, we ask you to lift up these people to God.
