SERMON OUTLINE

A REAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Psalm 50:1-23

1. The danger of an unteachable heart

Be careful of refusing correction. God’s judgment is not rejection but connection. He gathers his people to call them back to the covenant.

“The Mighty One, God, the L ord , speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets.” (v. 1)

“He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people : “Gather to me this consecrated people, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” (v. 4-5)

2. The danger of a transactional faith

Be careful of substituting ritual for relationship. True worship isn’t a transaction we control; it’s thanksgiving from the heart. You can’t give God anything that isn’t his.

“I have no need of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the insects in the fields are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it .” (v. 9-12)

“Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” (v. 14-15)

3. The danger of a hypocritical life

Be careful of replacing integrity with image. Real faith shows in how we live, not just in what we say.

“But to the wicked person, God says: ‘What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. ’” (v. 16-17)

“When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you . But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.” (v. 21)

Daily Dwell: November 9-November 15

“The Mighty One, God, the L ord , speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to where it sets. From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes and will not be silent…” - Psalm 50:1–3

There’s still time to be part of our 2026 Annual Fund! Simply fill out a pledge card from the pew pocket and place it in the offering plate.
