Thank you for your Participation! The first Community Input Summary for the Peachland OCP Renewal Project is now available! Access the report at www.peachland.ca/ocp2016 and find out what your fellow citizens had to say on a number of topics including the community vision. The Visioning Phase in May and June involved interactive sessions aimed at soliciting input from the community and stakeholders toward a refreshed community vision. Participants were also asked to provide issues, priorities and suggested opportunities for consideration. Some popular themes identified in the Community Input Summary include: • • • • • • •
Clean water Sewer system expansion Friendly, small town feel Walkability Affordable housing The beach Downtown parking
These themes and others are expanded upon within the Community Input Summary online at www.peachland.ca/ocp2016. The next phase of community engagement will take place this fall. The project team will be drafting a community vision based on the input received during the Visioning Phase. One or more opportunities for public input on the draft vision will be provided. Message from the Director: Once again, Peachland was a hub of activity this summer. We hosted Mudd, Sweat and Tears at the future Ponderosa Golf Course. This event drew 700 people and exposed visitors to the vast beauty Peachland has to offer. New this fall, the Peachland Scarecrow Festival is anticipating attracting visitors to Peachland as well. Residents and businesses are encouraged to build and display a Scarecrow. For more information, see p. 28. Also this fall is the annual Peachland Sprint Triathlon. The Three Lakes Triathlon series has assumed management of the race which will be a season ender for the triathlon circuit. See p. 26 for details.

Corporate Strategic Plan Following the 2014 elections, Mayor and Council completed a Corporate Strategic Plan for the current Council term. This document provides focus and direction in financial planning and guides the District’s short term and long term corporate management and decision making for Council and staff.

Each year our programs and services support the healthy physical, educational and social development of over 6,000 young people and families in 37 clubs and service locations throughout the Okanagan Valley. As a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada, the Okanagan Boys & Girls Clubs help young people grow healthy, happy and safely from birth to adulthood, and are a resource and support for parents throughout their family’s involvement with us. In Partnership with the District of Peachland and the United Way We are proud to be a part of the Peachland Historic Primary School! The Peachland Youth Center drop-in programs and events offer free supervised recreational activities five days per week. Activities include: free afternoon snacks, dinner nights, pool and ping pong table, video games, computers and Internet access, movies, music, crafts, cards & board games and out-trips to local attractions!

Healthy Teens (ages 13+) Thursdays 4-7pm Through a combination of skilled instruction, energetic practice, and healthy snacks, teens will be able to learn fitness and life skills from our very experienced and enthusiastic staff! Youth Zone (ages 13+) Saturdays 4-8pm Get in the Zone on Saturday nights, a time just for Teens to hang out with friends in a relaxed environment. Each week we’ll plan something different from out trips and theme nights to cooking and crafts. Please note there may be a small fee for out trips.
Tween Programs Tween Drop In & Open Gym (ages 9-12) Tuesdays 3-8pm After pick-ups at Peachland Elementary School we will come back to the Club to hang out, have a snack, and participate in activities, gym time at the Peachland Recreation Centre, crafts and games. NEW! Funtastic Fridays (ages 9-12) Fridays 4-8pm Start your weekend with friends at the Club! Take part in a different activity each week including games, art projects, movie & popcorn nights, out trips and more. Please note there may be a small fee for out trips
Drop-in & Dinner Night (ages 9-12) Wednesdays 4-7:30pm Want to learn how to make some of your favourite meals? Come down to the Club and we’ll cook and enjoy a great dinner together. $2/member/session or $5/member/month.
Special Events Friday, October 7 12-4pm H20 Swim Day (ages 13+) Spend the afternoon splashing in the pool, lounging in the lazy river and racing down the waterslides. $15/members Thursday, December 15 5:30-8:30pm Twinkle Tour and Treat (ages 9-12) Get into the holiday spirit! We will tour through Peachland and West Kelowna to see the spectacular light displays. Afterwards we will return to the Club to warm-up with hot chocolate and enjoy festive music. Early & Middle Childhood Programs Peachland Preschool (ages 3 to 5) 250-767-2515 - 5486 Clements Crescent Our preschools provide children with a program where they will be encouraged to explore, learn, and grow in a stimulating and fun environment. Preschoolers will develop and practice social and language skills, cooperative play, independent thinking and an awareness of self. For those who qualify, Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs offer tuition sponsorships. Classes for 3 year olds are available on T & Th. Classes for 4 year olds are available M, W & F.
After School Club (grades K-6) Join us for fun - filled, action packed programs and activities after school for children in grades Kindergarten to Grade 6. Participate in sports, leisure, creative arts, personal growth and life skill activities. Members are provided with a nutritious snack and take part in a variety of recreational activities. Transportation from Peachland Elementary is provided. Programs are available on professional days and during school breaks. * Pre-registration is required.

Youth Council Come join our Youth Council! Our Youth Council meets to discuss interests, youth council goals, special events, community projects and more. Outreach Mental Health (ages 12-18) Outreach Mental Health is a short term program providing mental health services to high risk youth with psychiatric issues who are not willing or not able to access mainstream mental health services.

Welcome to Peachland Pickleball. Peachland Recreation endeavours to provide a variety of recreational and competitive play opportunities to Peachland residents and guests. Volunteers support the Pickleball program by helping manage the day to day operation of the program. Please choose a program below best suited for you. Ranking is based on IFP Pickleball Rating system. Volunteers can also assist you in finding out your rating. A brief description is below; however, for a detailed description, please see the recreation staff or volunteers. Rating 1.0-3.0 • Minimal to no knowledge of the game • Can sustain short rally with player of equal ability • Some knowledge of court positions • Developing basic shots (forehand, backhand, volley, overhead and serve) Rating 3.0-4.0 • Consistent on serve and service return for medium and faster paced balls • Improved skills with basic shots and developing shot placement skills including direction and depth control • Beginning to anticipate opponent’s shot and attempt lob and dinks with little success • Exhibits some aggressive net play Rating 4.0-5.0 • Consistent and dependable strokes including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand shots • Reliable serves, lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys and can use a spin shot with some success • Anticipates a shot and regularly can hit a winning shot • Forces an opponent into making errors • Aggressive net play and teamwork in doubles

GROUP DESCRIPTIONS Selective Groups - Pre Competitive Group 6-12 yrs This program is for swimmers who are in Level 3 or better in the Red Cross swim lessons or can complete 25m of swimming on their back and front. This is an introduction to competitive swimming in a friendly environment. Swimmers will work on the fundamentals of all competitive strokes, starts and turns, as well, be introduced to swimming races. Green Group: 30 min sessions - 1 to 2 days per week • Red Group: 45 min sessions - 1 to 3 days per week
Bronze Lightning - Developmental Squad 8-13 yrs
60 - 90 min sessions - 4 days per week
This program is for swimmers who are in Level 6 or better in the Red Cross swim lessons or who can complete 100m of Free and Backstroke and at least 25m of Fly and Breaststroke. The focus of this group is to introduce the swimmers to training patterns with the emphasis on proper swim stroke techniques, starts and turns. In addition, the swimmers will be doing activations and stretching as a dry-land activity. Swimmers will be encouraged to attend competitive swim meets.
Silver Lightning - Developmental Competitive Squad 10-14 yrs
90 - 120 min sessions - 5 to 6 days per week
Swimmers are committed to the sport of swimming. They are preparing to compete at Provincial AA and AAA meets. Swimmers will learn how to train with endurance and technique focus. A structured dry-land program is focused on body awareness, stretching and injury prevention exercises.
Gold Lightning - Junior Age Group Squad 12-18 yrs
7 x 90 - 120 min sessions - 6 days per week
Swimmers are fully committed to a training program at both Johnson Bentley and H20 pools, as well, committed to the competitive swimming calendar. Swimmers are training to compete at Provincial AA, AAA and Age Group National meets. This program is structured to help swimmers deal with pressure. The dry-land program is focused on specific strength, stretching and injury prevention exercises.
Platinum Lightning - National Age Squad 14+ yrs
9 x 90-120 min sessions - 6 days per week
This group is for intensive training and a high level of performance. A higher commitment to quality training is required. Swimmers are training to perform at Provincial, Junior National, National and International swim meets. Additional training times could be added during the season. Dry-land, yoga and weight-lifting sessions supplement water training.
Multi Lightning - Youth 13-18 yrs This program is for swimmers unable to make the commitment to competitive programs. Training is more flexible. Swimmers will be working on proper swim stroke technique and introduced to endurance training and pace sets. Swimmers may choose whether they wish to compete at regional or provincial meets.
The Liquid Lightning Swim Club is a program that encourages the achievement of personal goals in swimming through the fun of fitness, team spirit, and competition. The club fosters an environment where all swimmers, regardless of ability, are encouraged to strive for personal goals in the sport of competitive swimming. The club focuses its entire resources on the support of competitive swimming activities for the benefit and enjoyment of all swimmers. Liquid Lightning Swim Club programs are eligible for the Children’s Fitness Tax Credit.

Peachland Historic Primary School Located at 5684 Beach Ave, the Historic Peachland Primary School is home to the Peachland Chamber of Commerce, Peachland Visitor Centre, Legends of the Lake Interpretive Centre, Okanagan Boys and Girls Club and the Peachland Art Gallery. The 1908 primary school had been home to generations of children in Peachland until it closed in 2003. This rejuvenated iconic community asset will provide for local children and youth programming as well as provide an accessible location for recreation, arts, cultural and social programming for all ages. The Peachland Players produces two plays a year which are presented at 4th Street Place. The Peachland Players regularly launches casting calls for upcoming plays and is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to support various production tasks. Boxing Club
The Boxing Club meets on Mon & Wed 6-8 pm at 4th Street Place, September through June. 4th Street Place is equipped with a boxing ring where youth 11-18 years of age will get fit while learning counter-punch style boxing, good healthy respect for others, as well as developing both confidence and character. Seniors and Adults 50+ Activity Centre
Located at 5672 Beach Avenue, the Activity Centre is operated by the Peachland & District Retirement Society, offering programs for the enjoyment & well being of its members. Membership in the PDRS is $15 per year, and enables those 50 years of age and over to participate in all activities. The Centre is available for rental for such occasions as wedding receptions, dances, banquets, etc.; rates vary with times booked. For information on membership, activities or rentals, please call 250.767.9133 or drop in and pick up a schedule. Office hours are weekday mornings from 9:30-11:30 am.
Wellness Centre
Dedicated to the provision of services and programs that benefit the individual and the community, the Wellness Centre provides a variety of weekly programs such as Sunday breakfasts, skill development, social and support programs. For more information call 250.767.0141.

• Prorated refunds will be issued at the time/date of notification. There is a 20% processing fee on class withdraws unless the withdrawal is accompanied by a statement from a medical doctor. • All classes are subject to cancellation due to insufficient registration, instructor availability, inclement weather or non-availability of facilities. In these cases, a full or prorated refund will be issued. • Class sizes are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
