Warning of Smear Campaign New Poll: Danilo's Lead is shrinking / One month left until the Elections / Observation A little more than a month is left until the Dominicans can choose their new president and all other political representatives in general elections. To date, the campaign runs relatively quiet, as most assume that President Danilo Medina will be reelected and opposition candidate Luis Abinader with his newly founded party anyway has no chance against the well-established and financially best-equipped team of the PLD, which also has most of the national press on its side. The director of the Center for Imports and Exports of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD), Jean Alain Rodríguez, called the solar park a historic project for the country, it was a significant investment. If the water then arrives, every time there are long queues at the distribution points. Some residents are forced to buy five-liter gallons of drinking water so that they can take a bath. Others buy water from the water trucks at 1,200 pesos per load. Only those who have cisterns can bridge those long periods without water. The Association for Water and Wastewater of Santo Domingo (CAASD) says, the reason for these shortages is the repair of three well fields. Haiti and the United Nations (UN) are asking for help to finance of a plan for humanitarian aid to alleviate the most urgent needs of the population. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is asking international donors for 193 million dollars to fund this plan. But it is not only necessary to help just in the short term, but to seek lasting solutions to the humanitarian problems of the poorest country of the region. The manifold problems of the families and especially the food shortages require a quick reaction to prevent a worsening of the humanitarian situation. In recent months, 70 percent of the crops were destroyed in Haiti due to the El Niño phenomenon. 3.6 million Haitians are starving today. Furthermore, 1.6 million live under severe food shortages. The further continuing of the cholera epidemic in which already 9,000 people have died, the 60,000 people, who still have no accommodation after the January 2010 earthquake, as well as the vulnerability of thousands of exiles and fugitives from the Dominican Republic that have no livelihoods and no familiar connections in Haiti are also some of the other major challenges that have to be solved.

In the late fifties he switched to the tenor saxophone and made avant-garde Jazz before he turned to melodic South American sounds in the seventies, which helped him to earn a great prestige in the world of Jazz. In 1985, Gato Barbieri was awarded the Premio Konex as one of the best Jazz musicians in the history of Argentina. Last year, he got the Latin Grammy for his lifetime achievement.
