10 Expo Mango BanĂ / Green Mangos against Heat Stroke In BanĂ, the capital of the province Peravia, the now 10th Expo Mango took place between the 5th and 8th of June, which aimed to promote this sweet fruit. BanĂ should also be promoted as an attractive ecotourism destination. On Saturday, the penultimate day of the Expo Mango, the Ministry of Agriculture organized a tour for specialists and invited foreign guests, where model plantations and new processing techniques were presented. For anyone who sees a blooming mango tree, it is hard to imagine that from these inconspicuous flowers will grow one of the most delicious fruits at all. In the Dominican Republic, the mango cultivation is becoming increasingly important, as the demand from abroad is increasing every year. In 2013, mangos with a value of 11.5 million dollars were exported mainly to the USA and Europe. The country has about 1,300 mango farms, especially in the provinces Peravia, San Cristobal, Azua and San Juan, where about 85 percent of the mangos are grown.

The consumption of mangos has, as most of the other fruits too, a positive impact on health. Mangos are an excellent source of vitamin A, B and C as well as potassium, which is effective against high blood pressure. Mangos help to prevent against various kinds of cancers, such as colon or breast cancer. Through their enzymes and fibers, mangos help in digestion and prevent constipation. In the case of a heat stroke, the juice of green mangos, diluted with water and a little sugar, helps to cool the body and to prevent further damages that can be caused by a heat stroke. Tea made from mango leaves helps to level the insulin levels.
