During the renovation of the Burns Road Community Center, the Recreation Department will continue to offer programs at various City facilities including Mirasol Park, Tennis & Pickleball Center, and The Gardens North County District Park. The interim program locations are noted throughout this brochure and online at pbgrec.com. Each park and facility address is listed on page 2. The administrative offices will be temporarily moved to the Lakeside Center and will operate Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All Recreation phone numbers and emails will remain the same during the project. Indoor facility rentals will be available at the Tennis & Pickleball Center and Sandhill Crane Golf Club.

DEEP WATER FITNESS

Enjoy a workout in our temperature-regulated Competition Pool. The deepwater aspect of this class is designed to give participants a great workout, all while having a low impact on the body. Classes consist of cardio, core strengthening, and stretching. Classes held in the Main Pool will have a maximum of 16 participants.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Available for ages 3 years to adults. Each lesson is 25 minutes long and will pair one swimmer and one instructor. Semi-private lessons are possible, pairing two swimmers and one instructor. The instructor will work at the pace of the swimmer(s) to reach their individual goals, working towards water competency, technique, and water safety.

REFUND/MAKE-UP POLICY

Refunds and rescheduling are not available due to personal reasons. Classes will not be held under the minimum registration.

Make-ups for weather cancellations (by the City) will take place at the end of the session. Sessions are complete with 8 classes of 50% of time taught (i.e.: 20 minutes of a level class, 15 minutes of private/preschool).

HELPFUL HINTS

Classes may reach maximum capacity quickly. If your class is full, please allow us to put you on the waiting list. We will contact you as soon as possible if a spot becomes available.

Swim lessons for individuals with varying abilities are available.

Private lessons are also available for individuals wanting one-onone instruction. Please contact aquainfo@pbgfl.com for more information.

Students must meet the age requirements and prerequisites prior to the first day of the class they are registered for. Students unable to demonstrate competency of the level prerequisites may be unenrolled from the lesson. Accommodations after registering for the wrong level are not guaranteed.

Aquatics classes must have at least two participants. The Aquatics team will move registrants from classes that do not meet the minimum requirement to another class, issue a refund, or find other accommodations.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course prepares you to teach people of all ages and abilities to swim and be safe in, on, and around water. Must attend all classes.

PREREQUISITES: 25-yard front crawl, backcrawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, 15 yards butterfly, 1-minute tread, and back float. All strokes must be performed at a Level 4 skill level.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Recognize specific characteristic behaviors of distressed swimmers and active and passive drowning victims; recognize aquatic emergencies and act promptly and appropriately; perform equipment-based rescue skills and techniques used by professional lifeguards; recognize and care for possible spinal cord injuries; learn to provide first aid and CPR. PREREQUISITES: Must be a currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguard or within the 30-day grace period of expiration. Must be able to complete all prerequisites of a Lifeguard upon arrival on the first DAY day of class.

Kids Need More Art is a teacher-created, advocacy-based children’s art studio offering classes, camps, programs, and more year-round. Their programs are taught by art specialists who are not only passionate about what they do but are true advocates for the Visual Arts in our schools. Their evolving art curriculums are designed to be fun and engaging, while combining discipline-based art education (art production, art criticism, art history, and aesthetics) with real-life, academic connections.

TINY KIDS: A PARENT & ME PROGRAM

A favorite of skilled players with limited time. People of various levels play, including some very strong competitors. Formats take ability level into account. Tournaments are held as singles and mixed. Singles are usually played as a ladder, with both women and men placed in the continuum according to ability for 3 matches in an abbreviated format. Our one-day mixed doubles tournaments are usually contested in ability-based multi-round compass draws with 3 matches in an abbreviated format.

ADAPTIVE TENNIS PROGRAMS

The Tennis & Pickleball Center adaptive programs have expanded to provide developmental opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. All these programs are conducted by professionals with specific training and experience in the field.

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS

DATE: 2nd & 4th Thursdays TIME: Youth: 5:30-6:30pm; Adult: 6:30-8:30pm LOCATION: Joseph R. Russo Athletic Complex FEE: $10/lesson This is a friendly, helpful group with a limited number of loaner chairs available. USPTA Pro Jim Tierney, who instructs this program and has 20+ years of wheelchair tennis experience, stated “Wheelchair tennis is about camaraderie and human potential. It is the most gratifying thing that I have ever done.” The first lesson is free of charge. This program is supported by a grant from the USTA Florida Foundation.

FRENZY is just that, continuous feeding and hitting in doubles

formation as the pros conduct. Frenzies are very fast-paced and only recommended for stronger players (3.0 and above). If more than one court, pros will divide the group according to ability. Great for doubles tactics and fitness!

CARDIO can be a bit more instructional but is still a very active

workout. It’s usually limited to one court with 12 players max.

Especially recommended for those returning to the game.

To be eligible for the discounted resident fees, a participant must reside within incorporated Palm Beach Gardens municipal limits and provide acceptable proof of residency. RIVERSIDE YOUTH ENRICHMENT CENTER This licensed, state-of-the-art childcare facility was established to enhance physical and intellectual development in preschool-age children. Teachers use a combination of child-initiated and teacher directed activities to promote curiosity and learning through fun-filled activities.

Our program helps children learn how to use their developing language, thinking and motor skills.
