Your Thoughts Can Kill You! W

ith nearly over 60 million people in the US struggling with mental illness which leads to the increase in suicide rates, I believe it’s crucial to discuss what precisely mental illness is and how we can help those who are being affected in this way. According to Christian Mental Health Services, “Mental illness is a physical illness of the brain that causes disturbances in thinking, behavior, energy or emotion that makes it difficult to cope with the ordinary demands of life.” The critical thing to note is, mental illness can affect anyone. According to the statistics, mental diseases affect 19% of the adult population, 46% of teenagers and 13% of children each year. Therefore, People struggling with their mental health may be in your family, live next door, teach your children, work in the next cubicle or sit in the same church pew. Also, if you are on social media, whether it is Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, you will notice that the people who you least expect are the ones struggling with coping with life. For example, just the other day a young pastor committed suicide. How can this be? He was someone who gave encouragement to others and was seen as a source of strength to his community.

By Solemn_Vow editor@streethype.net After his story was posted, a few days after, a rapper who was doing well in the music industry also committed suicide. The question was, what could be his problem when he had such a booming career and great future ahead of him. Then two days ago, a young designer committed suicide. Now, you see that suicide is on the rampant. The other important thing to notice here is that they were all men, even though that is not what I’m discussing in this

article. However, I believe it is important to note that anyone can suffer with mental illness, even the strongest and the most seemingly happiest persons around us. The two most common mental health conditions are ‘Anxiety Disorders’ that affects more than 18% of adults each year and ‘Mood Disorders’ such as depression and bipolar depression, that affect nearly 10% of adults each year, explained the Christian mental health services. I urge us to pause in our busy lives and to check on the persons next to us. Life can be hard to cope with even if it seems like a person may have it all. As it is now apparent in the lives of those who are suicidal that things do not bring happiness, let’s remove the stigma that is attached to mental illness and understand that people who are getting treatment are not insane. I believe if we should bring more awareness to mental illness we will be able to provide support to our families and communities. This would eventually lead to a decrease in the suicidal rates and depression as people who are suffering in this way will feel as though they have people who care for them. Living in isolation alone with your thoughts kills, but love can cure any disease. Let’s spread the love.

Shut Down the Horizon Juvenile Center Now Before Someone Gets Killed!

Y

ou should know that New York’s media is paying very close attention to reports about the dangerous inmate situation at the Horizon Juvenile Center located here in Bronx County. Their October 4, 2018 headlines say it all: The New York Times: “Teenagers Were Moved Off Rikers for Safety. Their Brawls Came, Too.” The Wall Street Journal: “20 Guards Injured During Brawl at Juvenile Detention Center in Bronx. Guards’ union calls the facility unsafe and dangerous” The New York Daily News: “Juvie Beatdown. 20 jailers injured breaking up gang brawl” The New York Post: “Guards: Shut new juvie jail. 20 officers injured in gang melee” It is important for you to know that the Horizon Juvenile Center has only been open for just one week and already, it is a nightmare! I strongly support the Correction Officers Benevolent Association’s demand that the Mayor of the City of New York shut down the Horizon Juvenile Center immediately and return the inmates to Rikers Island, before a life is lost. You should already know that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wants to close Rikers and build prisons in four boroughs. His plan may simply be a means to eventually expand La Guardia Airport. You should know that the Bronx once had its own prison, the Bronx House of De-

tention, once located at 653 River Avenue. It was closed in 2000 and then served as a homeless shelter. In 2007 it was demolished to make way for the Bronx Terminal Market Shopping Center. Mayor de Blasio’s goal to close Rikers, whether good or bad, cannot be done by this rush to transfer 16 and 17-year old inmates into any unsafe facility. It endangers both inmates and correction officers.

Ladies and gentlemen, we need to do all we can to prevent our prison guards as well as our city’s 16 and 17-year old prison population from being placed in any prison facility that is dangerous. No one deserves this. We must not accept a culture of violence. The Horizon Juvenile Center needs to be shut down, now! I am Councilman Rev. Rubén Díaz and this is what you should know.

Bill Cosby Gets 3-10 years By Street Hype Writer e's been known on TV as Dr. Cliff Huxtable in "The Cosby Show," Alexander "Scotty" Scott in "I-Spy," and the title character in the cartoon series "Fat Albert," but on Wednesday morning, September 26, 2018, Bill Cosby started his first full day as an inmate. Cosby woke up in a cell about the size of a walk-in closet at the State Correction Institute Phoenix, a sprawling prison in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. Far beyond the razor-wire fence of the penitentiary, efforts were underway to erase Cosby's celebrity status. The Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable presented the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce with a petition on Monday, September 24th signed by thousands of people who want Cosby's star removed from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. However, "The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historical record of entertainment figures past and present. Once installed, the stars become part of the historic fabric of the Walk of Fame, a 'designated historic cultural landmark,'" the chamber said in a statement. Nevertheless, Cosby's star was vandalized earlier this month when someone used a black marker to scrawl the words "serial rapist" on it. Cosby arrived at the prison on Tuesday, September 25th in the evening just hours

Rapper Killed in Drive-by Shooting QUEENS: ity police are investigating after they said a local rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a lounge in Queens on Sunday morning. "I just see chairs all over the floor and then I just see him on the floor, and then I didn't see anything until he starting gasping and blood just was going everywhere," said bartender Tieshajah Reynolds, who witnessed the shooting. Police said 35-year-old Frank Snyder, who goes by the stage name Hollywood Play, was shot in the neck and leg around 3:15 a.m. in front of the Tavern Bar and Lounge on Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Sources said that the Brooklyn resident exited the lounge, where he was hosting a party, when a dark-colored sedan rolled up and someone inside shot in his direction several times, striking him. The city police department did not confirm if Hollywood Play was the intended target, but Reynolds said she thought the car must have been waiting for the rapper. "I guess, like, once he went inside, shots went off and they targeted him for some reason, because there were a couple other people outside," she said. "I feel like they had to wait until the right moment to get him." There are no arrests at this time. Neighbors said the area is safe but the bar often makes them uneasy. "This bar is not safe at nighttime," one woman said. "Even in the daytime, crossing it, it's kind of scary. At nighttime, when I used to come home at 3 a.m., it was scary and I wasn't sure if I should go this way." 5.2-Magnitude Aftershock Rattles Haiti PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti: he US Geological Survey (USGS) says a 5.2 magnitude aftershock rattled northern Haiti, a day after a 5.9 magnitude earthquake left at least 12 dead and 188 injured at the same location. The USGS says the aftershock's epicentre was located 15.8 kilometres (9.8 miles) northnorthwest of Port-de-Paix and had a depth of 10 kilometres. It struck at about 3 p.m. local time on Sunday. "It was an aftershock. It was at the same location," said Paul Caruso, geophysicist with the USGS. "This is the first significant aftershock." At the time, emergency teams were bringing relief to victims of Saturday's quake, which toppled cinder-block homes and rickety buildings. Authorities said at least 12 people died and 188 were injured. The government reported seven deaths in the Nord-Ouest province and four other deaths in the community of Gros-Morne in the province of Artibonite, the newspaper Le Nouvelliste quoted Secretary of State for Communications Eddy Jackson Alexis as saying. The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at 8:11 p.m. Saturday night and was centred 12 miles (19 kilometres) northwest of Port-de-Paix, which is about 136 miles (219 kilometres) from the capital of Port-au-Prince. The quake was 7.3 miles (11.7 kilometres) below the surface. The civil-protection agency officially confirmed the deaths of at least 10 people. In 2010, a vastly larger magnitude 7.1 quake damaged much of the capital and killed an estimated 300,000 people. ———————————-

Jamaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, delivers Jamaica’s Policy Statement at the 73rd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, at the UN headquarters in New York on Thursday, September 27.

Jamaican PM calls on Int’l financial institutions to reconsider classification of countries By Derrick Scott, JIS amaican Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, has called on international financial institutions to reconsider how small developing countries are classified for loan consideration. “I am reiterating my call for the international financial institutions to address this present problem known as the middle-income trap. We believe that a special highly indebted middle- income initiative could provide the framework for the type of support that these countries require,” said the Prime Minister. Delivering Jamaica’s Policy Statement at the 73rd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly at the UN headquarters in New York on September 27, Mr. Holness told world leaders that it is the greatest hope of small developing countries, such as Jamaica, that the UN high-level middle-income meeting, scheduled for later this year, will give full consideration to those matters as well as ways in which the UN system can provide support. “I am reiterating my call for the international financial institutions to address this present problem known as the middle-income trap. We believe that a special highly indebted middle- income initiative could provide the framework for the type of support

J

that these countries require,” said the Prime Minister. Mr. Holness said the goal is to forge collaboration and a partnership between UN member states and the private sector to determine practical solutions, as well as ways of sourcing new and long-term capital, utilising a mix of public, private and balanced financing. The Prime Minister said that even as small developing states seek financing for sustainable development, they are mindful that “we live in a world where international peace and security are under threat”. He said the world has witnessed terrorist attacks and grapples with a range of conflicts that appear intolerable. Mr. Holness said that Jamaica is interested in efforts to build a secure environment through combating the illicit trafficking and trade in small arms and light weapons. “We have made significant national institutional changes, undertaken policy enhancements and adopted legislative amendments in the areas of security and justice,” the Prime Minister noted, adding that Jamaica is looking forward to working with member states, the UN system and partners at all levels to ensure that the progress made is sustainable.

Haitians Needs A Visa To Visit Argentina News Americas: ationals of Haiti will now have to apply for a tourist visa in order to visit a South American country. Trini Student attempted plane theft was homesick Caribbean News ew claims have emerged that student pilot Nishal Sankat, who breached security at the Orlando Melbourne International Airport and caused a five-hour lockdown, never intended to steal the plane. The claim comes from Brevard County attorney Greg Eisenmenger who is now representing the 22-year-old Trinidad and Tobago national. Sankat jumped over a fence and boarded an American Airlines jet scheduled for maintenance, but was tackled and restrained by airport workers in the plane’s cockpit. He has been charged for burglary, trespassing and grand theft. Eisenmenger said the Florida Tech student is dealing with mental health issues and is now on suicide watch at the Brevard County Jail in Florida. The attorney is working to get the 22year-old under the care of a private physician and to move him from the jail to a treatment facility, as he claims the conditions are making matters worse for Sankat. Eisenmenger claims Sankat was homesick and depressed and none of his relatives and close friends expected something like this happen. The attorney is quoted as saying that the actual act of Sankat getting onto the plane “came out of the blue”.

ICE removes Jamaican national wanted for murder NEW YORK, NY: .S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) removed a Jamaican national Thursday who is wanted in his home country on murder charges. Oshane Wayne Thompson, 24, was removed from the United States via an ICE Air Operations Charter flight and transferred into the custody of Jamaican law enforcement authorities. “We are targeting criminal aliens every day in New York City, many like Thompson who is wanted in his home country to face murder charges,” said Thomas R. Decker, field office director for ERO New York. “It is important to recognize that ICE officers enforce immigration laws and remove criminal aliens from city streets in the interest of public safety, keeping our communities free of those who seek refuge from facing justice for their criminal acts.” According to Jamaican law enforcement authorities, on June 12, 2017, Thompson got involved in an argument with an adult male, over a woman, pulled a firearm and shot the adult male, who succumbed to his injuries. On June 13, 2017, Thompson boarded a flight to the U.S., and legally entered with a nonimmigrant visa, with authorization to remain in the United States until December 13, 2017. On June 19, 2017, Interpol issued a Red Notice for Thompson, for the crime of murder. On June 26, 2017, the ERO National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center (NCATC), in Williston, Vermont, advised ERO New York that Thompson may be residing in the New York City metropolitan area. On June 28, 2017, the U.S. Department of State revoked Thompson’s visa. On March 19, 2018, Thompson was arrested by ERO deportation officers from the New York City and Newark Field Offices in Pennsauken, New Jersey, on immigration charges. On August 2, 2018, Thompson was ordered removed by an immigration judge in New York City, and waived his right to appeal, thus paving the way for his removal to Jamaica. Since October 1, 2009, ERO has removed more than 1,700 foreign fugitives from

U

the United States who were sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder. In fiscal year 2017, ICE conducted 226,119 removals na-

tionwide. Eighty-three percent of individuals removed from the interior of the United States had previously been convicted of a criminal offense.

Immigration Judges Asylum Requests BY WALTER EWING he Trump administration is working hard to undermine the asylum system through additional and unnecessary barriers, making it more difficult for those seeking refuge in the United States to be granted asylum. This is an ominous trend given that the U.S. government’s decision to either grant or reject an asylum request can be a life-or-death matter. Utilizing recently released data from the U.S. immigration courts, the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) found that the share of asylum requests being turned down by immigration judges has skyrocketed since mid-2017. Incorrectly rejecting such requests could result in death, torture, or imprisonment for asylum seekers if they are forced to return to their countries of origin.

T

Individuals who flee to the United States in search of safe haven can request asylum at the U.S. border. Most border crossers without proper documentation are subjected to a fasttrack deportation process called “expedited removal,” unless they express fear of returning to their home countries. These individuals must be referred to an asylum officer for a “credible fear interview” to assess the likelihood of making a successful asylum claim. During the interview, if the asylum officer finds that there is not a “significant possibility” that the asylum seeker could establish eligibility for asylum, the asylumseeker can appeal to an immigration judge for a Credible Fear Review (CFR). The judge’s decision on the matter is final.

S SP PO OR RT TS S Trinidadian marathon runner to raise money for Myanmar’s poorest YANGON, Myanmar: rinidad and Tobago national Ishwar Persad will be running the Bagan Temple Marathon on November 25, to raise $500,000 (CDN$100,000) for programmes that will help Myanmar’s poorest. Ishwar’s global-running fundraisers and volunteer work are also currently featured in the Fall 2017 edition of The Catalyst, an international magazine on global volunteering. The magazine is produced by Cuso International, a well-known Canadian volunteer organisation based in Ottawa. Ishwar is currently on a one-year volunteer placement by Cuso in Myanmar, working as a community tourism advisor with a local NGO, the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute. “Myanmar’s poor number more than 13 million, or about a quarter of the population, and the country ranks in the bottom quarter of 185 countries that are listed in the human development index,” Persad noted. Through a funding arrangement with Cuso, every $1 donated to Persad’s fundraising run will be leveraged nine times by the Canadian government. So raising CDN$10,000 would translate into a whopping CDN$100,000 (TT$500,000) for poverty alleviation programmes in Myanmar. —————————————

Hayley Matthews celebrates her maiden ODI hundred

Matthews’ maiden hundred earns West Indies women shared series BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: ayley Matthews collected a polished, maiden One-day International hundred to lead strong WINDIES Women’s batting and set things in motion for a convincing 115-run victory over South Africa Women in the decisive, third ICC Women’s Championship ODI on Saturday. The 20-year-old Matthews became only the fifth female player from the Caribbean to hit an ODI hundred, cracking 15 fours in a fluent 117 from 146 balls to lead the hosts to 292 for five – their second highest ODI total ever – from their allocation of 50 overs, after they chose to bat on a hard, true Kensington Oval pitch. Deandra Dottin followed up a typically enterprising 59 from 44 balls that included four fours and three sixes when the Windies Women batted with a destructive spell of 4-36 from 9.3 overs to complete a memorable all-round match, as the South Africans failed to recover from a shaky start and were bowled out for 177 in the 43rd over. The result meant Windies Women drew level in the three-match series, fol-

H

lowing a 40-run defeat in the first game last Sunday at the same venue, where the second game ended in a no-result from a wash-out, due to rain, three days later. The victory also earned the Caribbean side two points on the Championship table, taking them into fourth place with nine from nine matches, three behind table toppers New Zealand Women, and two behind both Australia Women and World champions England Women. The ICC Women’s Championship is played between the eight leading sides – Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Windies – taking on each other in series of three ODIs on a home or away basis. Hosts New Zealand and the three other top teams from the Championship will gain direct qualification for the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup. The remaining four sides will get a second chance through the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier event in which they will be joined by six teams from four regions – Africa, Asia, East Asia Pacific and Europe.

Francis Brooklyn Director of Athletics Irma Garcia announced today the hiring of Justine Lombardi as the program’s first-ever women’s soccer head coach. A formal press conference introducing Lombardi will be held on Wednesday, August 29, at 10 a.m. on the campus of St. Francis Brooklyn in the 8th Floor Franciscan Brothers Conference Center.

S

“We are thrilled to announce the addition of Justine Lombardi to our family here at St. Francis Brooklyn. Justine brings a pedigree of winning and a tremendous work ethic to our program, which is set to hit the field in the fall of 2019. Her passion for the sport and ability to recruit will help St. Francis College grow in the years to come,” notes Garcia.

West Indies suffered at the hands of teenager Prithvi Shaw RAJKOT, India: est Indies suffered at the hands of teenager Prithvi Shaw who struck the third-fastest hundred on debut as India dominated the opening day of the first Test on Thursday, October 5th. Opting to bat first at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, India marched to 364 for four at the close, with the 18-year-old Shaw belting a superb 134 and Captain Virat Kohli ominously poised on an unbeaten 72. Cheteshwar Pujara had earlier missed out on a hundred when he stroked 86, while Ajinkya Rahane chipped in with 41, as India recovered from the loss of opener K L Rahul in the first over without scoring, to collar the visitors' bowling attack. Already set back by the loss of seasoned new-ball bowler Kemar Roach, who returned to Barbados last week due to the death of his grandmother, West Indies suffered yet another blow when Captain Jason Holder was ruled out of the match with an ankle injury. It meant a Test debut for the inexperienced 22-year-old Sherman Lewis, and also saw Keemo Paul, at age 20 and with a single Test to his name, having to share the new ball with speedster Shannon Gabriel.

New York, NY: he Key Game, the critically acclaimed play by London-based Jamaican playwright Patricia Cumper, will have its American premiere with a limited Off Broadway run at the New Perspectives Studio in Manhattan from October 17 through 28. The four-character drama, which was commissioned by Britain’s Talawa Theatre Company and had its world premiere in London in 2004, was a Time Out London Critics pick. The New York production is being produced by Banana Boat Productions in collaboration with New Perspectives Theatre Company and is directed by Banana Boat Artistic Director Merlina Rich. The Key Game is set in a rundown psychiatric hospital in Jamaica during the 1990’s. When the Jamaican government reveals plans to demolish the facility in favor of erecting an expensive building complex, the hospital’s last three in-patients and their primary caregiver¬a male nurse - ponder their uncertain futures and how they will function in the outside world. The cast features James Foster Jr, Leajato Amara Robinson, Jonathan Michaelson Swain and Marc Webster.

‘Flabba’ Carter, Leroy & David Heywood aka “Mafia & Fluxy,” Winston ‘Bopee’ Bowen, Dean Fraser, and Robbie Lyn are some of the producers and musicians who worked on the body of work. ‘Never Ending’ is the “I Feel Good” singer first album since the double-disc One Love, One Life, which was released in November 2012.

According to Jamaican born Director Rich, who founded Banana Boat Productions two decades ago to bring Caribbean stories and culture to the attention of American audiences, The Key Game remains as timely now as it was in its original production nearly fifteen years ago, making it an easy choice for her 2018 production. “What (playwright) Pat Cumper has done here is to present an intimate, moving and ultimately enlightening homage to the resilience we all have within us when facing life-changing circumstances,” she says. “These four men, bound together by their history and their own individual challenges, have to now confront a nameless, faceless governing force which is totally indifferent to their vulnerabilities and their fates, becoming, in effect, their fiercest ever antagonist. The Key Game offers a riveting yet tender story of four interdependent lives in transition, and, given its setting, sheds an interesting light on the spectrum between what is considered normal and abnormal.” She adds that at a time when so many New York neighborhoods are also being regentrified.

Gov. Murphy wants Sheriff Michae to resign BERGEN COUNTY: ov. Phil Murphy is calling for the resignation of Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino after obtained a secret recording of the sheriff making racist remarks about black people and Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, the first Sikh in the country to hold such an office. The conversation was recorded on Jan. 16, following Murphy's gubernatorial inauguration, which Saudino attended. He is heard telling colleagues what Murphy said in his speech: "He talked about the

whole thing, the marijuana, sanctuary state...better criminal justice reform. Christ almighty, in other words let the blacks come in, do whatever the fuck they want, smoke their marijuana, do this do that, and don't worry about it. You know, we'll tie the hands of cops." Moments later Saudino gripes that Murphy appointed Grewal solely because of "the turban." "Without question, the comments made on that recording are appalling, and anyone using racist, homophobic, and

hateful language is unfit for public office," the Democratic governor said in a statement. "If indeed that is Sheriff Saudino's voice on the recording, he must resign." Saudino, who is white and a Democrat, initially did not respond to questions Thursday morning. But he released a statement late in the evening that effectively confirmed the authenticity of the tape without mentioning the possibility of resignation.

Father of toddler found dead in suitcase arrested JERSEY CITY: he father of a 23-month-old girl found dead in a pink suitcase along train tracks near Journal Square is scheduled to be arraigned on October 9th in Hudson County Superior Court. Travis Plummer, 37, was charged with desecrating the remains of his daughter, Te'Myah Layauna Plummer, and was tracked down to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he was arrested on April 19. Following the April 11 discovery of the

T

infant's body on train tracks near the Journal Square Transportation Center, local homicide investigators were contacted by the Richmond Police Department in Virginia, which was investigating the whereabouts of Te'Myah and Plummer, officials said. Authorities in Viriginia had asked for the public's assistance in locating Plummer and the young girl, saying family members had not heard from the two since August. They said they may be in Jersey City or North Carolina.

Plummer was charged with felony child neglect in 2004 when his 8-month-old son drowned in a bathtub. He told police he had tried to perform CPR, which records indicate was not true, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child abuse in the 2004 case and served one year in jail. His other criminal convictions include child abuse, abduction, and weapons offenses, according to the report.

Plummer was extradited from Puerto Rico and made his first appearance on the charge in Hudson County on July 6. He entered a plea of not guilty at the hearing. Although originally charged with the desecration of his daughter's remains, information on the charges Plummer was ultimately indicted on by the grand jury in Hudson County was not available Monday due to the Columbus Day holiday.

7 Things All Men Need In a Relationship By Jordan Gray 1. Praise and Approval: Men have infamously tender egos. We need frequent reassurance about ourselves, our career paths, and our efficacy as partners, our sexual prowess, and our attractiveness (among other things). I have countless male clients telling me every month that their partners rarely let them know what they like about them. While it may be true that men need relatively less frequent verbal praise than their female counterparts, this isn’t the kind of gesture that requires keeping score. Tell him how attractive you find it when he says something a certain way, when he accomplishes something, or when he takes you on a date. Your praise won’t make him cocky; it will help him feel loved. 2. Respect: Men feel respect as love. If he feels like you disapprove of him, his career, or the things that he believes to be integral to who he is as a person, he will have a hard time trusting and loving you. The thought process behind that being “If she doesn’t respect who I am at my core, then how can she really want what is best for me?” If a man’s partner doesn’t respect his path or mission in life, then he will find it very difficult to feel other than an anxious need to distance himself from her. 3. A Sense of Sexual Connection: Men and women both connect through sex and communication, but generally, women connect better through communication and men connect better through sex. Does this mean that men need to have sex with their intimate partners every day in order to feel connected? Not necessarily. Men, more often than not, connect through indicators of sexual access just as much as they do through sex. This lack of awareness around women needing to connect through words and men needing to connect through sex can sometimes turn into an unfortunate and rapid downward spiral. She doesn’t feel like opening sexually until she feels connected to him, but he finds it difficult to communicate with her because they haven’t been physical with each other in days. Talk with your partner and ask what specifically helps them feel the most loved so you can avoid these unintentional standoffs. 4. Emotional Intimacy: From a very young age, men are taught to avoid appearing weak at all costs. Perceived “weakness” includes things like complaining, divulging fears or concerns, and expressing self-doubt or worry. A man’s partner is his safe space to fall. He can expose the cracks in his armor and allow his partner to help him heal. Just as women need to slowly open up sexually within a relationship, men open up over time emotionally. He needs to make sure that when he first cries in front of you, you won’t be repelled or handle it poorly. If you push him away or are unable to be nurturing when he needs it the most, he will no longer trust you with his emotions. He will remove himself somewhat from the relationship. 5. Space: Within all of my relationships and the vast majority of my clients, I consistently see that it is the feminine-associated female partner that wants more time spent together and the masculine-associated male partner wanting more time apart. There is no perfect balance to be found here. This will always be a balancing act of closeness and separateness. But rest assured, suffocating a man (either by failing to allow him free time or with overly jealous behavior) is the fastest way to end a relationship. Men need breathing room in a relationship. We need time for our

hobbies, time with our friends, and time to toil away on our projects to feel fulfilled. Let him roam. Let him breathe. Leave him to his own

devices. A man will be that much happier for you to receive him when he returns, knowing that you trust both him and the strength of your bond enough to let him have his space. 6. Physical Touch: Men need frequent non-sexual touch as well as a sense of sexual access. If a man’s partner comes up behind him and touches his neck and hair in a loving way while he sits absorbed in a task, he could feel just as loved as if they had just had penetrative sex (even more so, depending on his mood). This touch is interpreted as physical love- the message of which registering as “I love you, and I want you to feel happy all the time. Know that I’m always here for you and I care for you deeply.”

7. Security: Men and women are both attracted to certainty in a relationship. The more a man feels like his partner is in it for the long haul, the more ready and able he is to be able to open up to her (assuming he is equally invested in her). But security goes deeper than just the fact that you won’t leave him. The security that he feels ties back in to several of these points. He feels secure in knowing that you approve of him and where he is in his career. He feels secure and loved when you touch him non-sexually throughout the day. He feels secure when he is allowed to have his guys’ nights away from you and you don’t feel the need to call or text him every half hour to check in. And he feels secure with a partner who takes steps to love him in the way that he most needs.

Keeping your smartphone safe Use a PIN/keylock code

R

ecent research has shown that 54% of smartphone users in the US do not set up password security on mobile phones – either when turned on or woken from standby. The reasons for doing so are obvious – if a phone is lost, stolen or simply left unattended, anyone that picks it up will have unrestricted access. This could involve data being stolen, phone calls being made or unwanted services being registered for, and could result in considerable financial cost. There are a number of ways to protect a smartphone. Many new phones offer a “pattern lock” – a personalised shape or pattern that is drawn on the screen to grant access, and this is often faster and less hassle than entering a password. Alternatively a PIN code offers a numeric alternative to a standard password and can also save time. Obviously a password that is easy to guess is less secure – so avoid “1234”, “password” and other common phrases. A screen lock is useful but won’t stop someone from removing your SIM card and using it on another phone. To prevent this from happening, set up a SIM card lock in the form of a PIN number that will need to be entered when a phone is turned on in order to connect to a network.

HEALTH AND NUTRITION

Losing focus? Drink some water Anne Stych, www.bizjournals.com Avoiding dehydration is important to peak cognitive function. The fact that you’re having trouble concentrating at work may just be because it’s summer — after all, we’re trained for the first 18 years of our lives that summertime is playtime, and of course you'd rather be at the beach. But your lack of focus may also mean that you need to grab a bottle of water, according to an analysis reported by the National Institutes of Health. Researchers analyzing 33 studies found that dehydration leads to impairment in tasks requiring attention, executive function and motor coordination, Reuters reports. Symptoms of dehydration include • being thirsty • feeling dizzy, • feeling nauseous, • getting a headache, • and developing cramps. Mindy Millard-Stafford, director of the physiology lab at the Georgia Institute of Technology, and her team analyzed 33 studies that looked at the cognitive function of 413 adults who lost fluid equal to 1 percent to 6 percent of their body weight. The team found that while reaction time did not decrease, participants made

The Impact of Salt on Your Body and Life

T more mistakes in attention-related tasks as they became dehydrated. Performance on repetitive activities declined the most, Healthline reports, with impairments worsening at a 2 percent fluid loss. Millard-Stafford said maintaining focus in a long meeting, driving a car, or performing a monotonous job in a hot factory are some situations that become more difficult when people are dehydrated. She said higher-order functions like doing math or applying logic also drop off. She also said that although hydration is important, so is moderation. “You can have too much water, something called hyponatremia,” MillardStafford said. “Some people overly aggressively, out of a fear of dehydration, drink so much water that they dilute their blood and their brain swells.”

he one thing that salt have most in common is that they taste good with a huge variety of different foods. Unfortunately, salt also difficult to consume in moderation. Even if you avoid salty snack foods, salt can find its way into your diet as a part of the recipes that you prepare. What sort of harm can salt cause to your body? Here are just a few of the reasons that you should really try to cut down. Too Much Salt Raises Blood Pressure Salt is the average American’s main source of sodium, a dietary mineral that the body needs. Sodium helps with muscle function, as well as maintaining the fluid balance in your body. However, if your kidneys aren’t able to keep up with the amount of sodium you consume, your body retains water in order to help dilute it. Why is this bad? Much of this fluid is then pulled into your blood vessels, which increases your blood volume and creates more pressure within the vessels. Increased blood pressure also increases your risk of heart attack or stroke.

Ne Bu Jo Excessive Sodium Causes Kidney Damage High blood pressure isn’t the only problem caused by the strain that excessive sodium puts on your kidneys. Processing all of this sodium can also take its toll on them, resulting in a loss of function. A high-sodium diet could also make you more likely to experience kidney stones.

BUSINESS HYPE Highlighting the opportunities and challenges of local business

Tips For Growing A Successful Business By Chris Seabury o succeed in business today, you need to be flexible and have good planning and organizational skills. 1. Get Organized To be successful in business you need to be organized. Organization will help you complete tasks and stay on top of things to be done. A good way to do this is to create a to-do list each day - as you complete each item, check it off your list. This will ensure that you're not forgetting anything and you're completing all the tasks that are essential to the survival of your business.

T

2. Keep Detailed Records All successful businesses keep detailed records. By keeping detailed records, you'll know where the business stands financially and what potential challenges you could be facing. Just knowing this gives you time to create strategies to overcome the obstacles that can prevent you from being successful and growing your business.

that can generate tremendous rewards for your business. 5. Be Creative Always be looking for ways to improve your business and to make it stand out from the competition. Recognize that you don't know everything and be open to new ideas and new approaches to your business. 6. Stay Focused The old saying that "Rome was not built in a day" applies here. Just because you open a business doesn't mean that you're going to immediately start making money. It takes time to let people know who you are, so stay focused on achieving your short-term goals and give the rest time to come together on its own. 7. Prepare to Make Sacrifices The lead-up to starting a business is hard work, but after you open your doors, your work has just begun. In many cases, you have to put in more time than you would if you were working for someone else. In turn, you have to make sacrifices, such as spending less time with family and friends in order to be successful.

3. Analyze Your Competition Competition breeds the best results. To be successful, you can't be afraid to study and learn from your competitors. After all, they may be doing something right that you can implement in your business to make more money.

8. Provide Great Service There are many successful businesses that forget that providing great customer service is important. If you provide better service for your customers, they'll be more inclined to come to you the next time they need something instead of going to your competition.

4. Understand the Risks and Rewards The key to being successful is taking calculated risks to help your business grow. A good question to ask is "What's the downside?" If you can answer this question, then you know what the worst-case scenario is. This knowledge will allow you to take the kinds of calculated risks

9. Be Consistent Consistency is key component to making money in business. You have to consistently keep doing the things necessary to be successful day in and day out. This will create long-term positive habits that will help you make money over the long term.
