When feminism is not for black women!

T

he month of March is filled with many celebrations and anniversaries. In the United States alone, we celebrate, St. Patrick’s day, International Waffle day and the observance of the beginning of lent, where many churches celebrate the Passover. For all the women around the world and especially in the United States, the entire month of March is known as Women’s History Month.

As we focus on women’s history month, I cannot help but discuss the issue of feminism. According to the Britannica, “Women’s rights movement that is largely based in the US in the eighteenth century sought equal rights and opportunities and greater personal freedom for women.

It coincided as part of the second wave of feminism. While the first wave feminism of the ninth and to early twentieth centuries focused on women’s legal rights, especially the right to vote, the second wave feminism of women’s rights movement touched on every area of women’ experience including politics, work, the family and sexuality.”

Therefore, it seems like in this twentyfirst century we are heavily focused on the second wave of feminism. As there are more women in politics, more women that are starting movements like the #metoo #blacklivesmatter movements, more woman in the labor force creating a different family dynamic, and more women are standing out and owning their bodies and sexuality.

However, with all the women that are standing out and changing the world and chanting equality. It seems like balance is missing within the movement itself, as women of color are sensing that the movement may not be for them but for white women, which looks more like white supremacy.

Author Monnica Williams wrote that after joining the feminist movement she realized and I quote, “It is a racist ideology that claims to speak for all women while ignoring the needs of women of color and suppressing our voices.”

She mentioned that they missed the need for women of color and other marginalized women. She stated that “more women of color is dying in childbirth, not getting paid maternity leave, there is more control over black women and girls’ sexual choices depending on social status, and that the health care is more punishing for women of color.”

Therefore, if feminism is designed to created equality for women within society, shouldn't it start from inside then out? Then why some women are still being left out.

Women of all ages, races, sizes, cultures etc. should work to be in solidarity.

However, I must say, many would that’s because women do not get along with each other. However, when we are fighting for a better way of life, what happens does affect all women whether black or white.

Conversely, there is an underlying issue within this society that causes some group of people to believe that they are more superior to another group and if that issue is not treated first, the symptoms of inequality will always be a part of our lives regardless of what we are fighting for.

ep. Gregory Meeks was unanimously elected Monday morning the new chair of the Queens County Democratic Party.

Meeks, who was elected during a meeting of district leaders in Forest Hills, has been in Congress since 1998, representing several neighborhoods, including Jamaica, Queens Village, and the Rockaways.

His election comes after the resignation of former Rep. Joe Crowley, who held the position for more than a dozen years. Crowley stepped down last month after taking a job as a lobbyist.

Last year, Crowley lost his seat in Congress to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. He was considered to be on the shortlist to become the next House Speaker.

As county leader, Meeks will have a role in picking some judges and political candidates and shaping the agenda for the Democratic Party in Queens.

Raccoons Found with Rabies

H

ealth officials are urging New Yorkers to be careful after four confirmed cases of raccoons with rabies inside or near a Manhattan park over the past seven weeks — including three in the span of eight days.

The New York City health department said Friday it found raccoons that tested positive for rabies inside or around Inwood Hill Park on: January 25 at Seaman Avenue and West 204th Street; February 25 at Isham Street and Seaman Avenue; February 28 at West 214th Street

and Indian Road and March 4 at West 218th Street and Indian Road Only two other raccoons have been found with rabies — at East 134th Street and St. Ann's Place in the Bronx on February 27, and at Forest Green and Arden Avenue on Staten Island on February 22 — in the city so far this year.

The health department said there is no confirmation any of the raccoons bit or exposed rabies to anyone, and notes rabies is rare in the animal.

Immigrants arrest jump by 414%

By Kimmy Blair Street Hype Reporter he US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) is reporting an increase its NYC-area total arrests by 88% including individuals with no criminal convictions by 414%, compared to the last year of the Obama Administration.

Total ICE arrests in the NYC area increased by 40% from the federal fiscal year 2016 to FY2017 and continued to grow by an additional 35% in FY2018. These increases show an 88% overall increase in ICE arrests from the last full fiscal year under the Obama Administration (FY2016) to the first full fiscal year under the Trump Administration

(FY2018).

ICE arrests of people without criminal convictions (“non-criminal arrests”) in the NYC area increased by 175% from the last full fiscal year of the Obama Administration (FY2016) to the first year of the Trump Administration (FY2017) and then continued to increase by another 87% in FY2018. These changes add up to a total increase of 414% from the last full fiscal year under the Obama Administration (FY2016) to the first full fiscal year under the Trump Administration (FY2018).

National data also show significant increases, though less than those seen in the NYC area. Nationally, non-criminal arrests in-

creased by 146% from FY2016 to FY2017 and continued to increase by 42% in FY2018.

Total nationwide ICE arrests increased by 30% from FY2016 to FY2017 and continued to grow by 11% in FY2018. These changes add up to a 44% increase in total arrests, and a 248% increase in non-criminal arrests nationwide from FY2016 to FY2018.

Non-criminal arrests during this period comprised a significantly more substantial portion of overall arrests, both nationally and in the NYC area. In FY2016, only 13% of arrests in the NYC area were non-criminal arrests. In FY2018, the proportion of non-criminal arrests rose to 36%.

You can get an original Social Security card or a replacement card if yours is lost or stolen. There is no charge for a Social Security card. This service is free.

You can use a my Social Security account to request a replacement Social Security card online if you: • Are a U.S. citizen age 18 years or older with a U.S. mailing address; • Are not requesting a name change or any other change to your card; and • Have a driver's license or a state-issued identification card from one of the many participating states. Armenian woman on U.S. Visa Fraud charges S tella Boyadjian, 48, of Rego Park, New York pleaded guilty on March 4 to conspiracy to unlawfully bring in aliens, visa fraud, and aggravated identity theft before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sanket J. Bulsara in the Eastern District of New York for her role in a multi-year visa fraud scheme that brought Armenian citizens into the United States for profit.

According to the indictment, Boyadjian, led a transnational network of co-conspirators who engaged in a widespread visa fraud scheme to bring Armenian citizens into the United States by fraudulently claiming to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that the Armenians were members of performance groups, and thus qualified for P3 “Culturally Unique Artist” visas.

The P-3 nonimmigrant visa classification allows foreign nationals to temporarily travel to the United States to perform, teach or coach as artists or entertainers, under a program that is culturally unique.

A U.S. employer or sponsoring organization is required to submit a USCIS Form I-129 Petition for a Non-Immigrant Worker, along with supporting documentation, attesting that the performances in the US are culturally unique.

In February 2018, Boyadjian, Hrachya Atoyan, 31, of Glendale, California; and Diana Grigoryan, aka “Dina Akopovna,” 42, of the Republic of Armenia were charged in a 15-count indictment with visa fraud and with conspiracy to: defraud the United States, commit visa fraud, and illegally bring aliens into the United States. Boyadjian and Grigoryan were also charged with related money laundering charges, and Boyadjian was charged with aggravated identity theft.

As alleged in the indictment, Boyadjian ran a non-profit organization called Big Apple Music Awards Foundation (BAMA) based in Rego Park, New York. Boyadjian used the Big Apple Music Awards Foundation as well as formal and informal music industry con-

tacts in the United States and Armenia to perpetuate the scheme. Boyadjian and others solicited Armenian citizens who wanted to come to the United States and charged them between $0 and $10,000 to be included on the Form I129 Petitions.

Boyadjian and other associates in Armenia then acquired fraudulent performer certificates and organized staged photo sessions where the aliens wore traditional Armenian folk outfits to make it appear as though they were traditional Armenian performers.

After being trained how to defeat U.S. visa interviews, the individual aliens presented these certificates and photos to U.S. consular officers during their visa interviews. Once the Armenians entered the United States, some would pay Boyadjian and her associates additional money to be included in another fraudulent petition asking for P-3 visa extensions.

Sentencing has not yet been scheduled for Boyadjian.

US actor Luke Perry dies aged 52 U

S actor Luke Perry has died in California at the age of 52, less than a week after suffering a massive stroke.

His publicist said Perry died surrounded by his family and friends.

Perry rose to fame on Beverly Hills, 90210 and had been starring as Fred Andrews on the CW show Riverdale.

He was taken to hospital on Wednesday in Los Angeles, where he had been shooting scenes for Riverdale at the Warner Bros film lot.

he organisers of Buju Banton's Long Walk To Freedom Concert set for the National Stadium in St Andrew on Saturday are encouraging patrons to come out early and make use of the park and ride shuttle service, which will be provided for patrons.

The concert is a kick off for the deejays first concert series since he was released from a United States prison in December where he served time on drug trafficking charges. In addition to Buju Banton, the entertainment package will feature Chronixx, Etana, Coco Tea, Delly Ranx, Romain Virgo, Ghost, Agent Sasco, LUST and Buju's son Jahzeil. Tickets for the bleachers section of the stadium are still available for sale at select Digicel stores.

The organisers are projecting that 32,000 patrons will file into the stadium for the event and the parking facility at Heroes' Circle can accommodate approximately 5000 vehicle and additional lots are being accessed to deal with any overflow.

Chris Martin joins Kulture Movement R

eggae singer Chris Martin has partnered with the New York-based Kulture Movement on the #NoDisrespect campaign.

The project is geared at educating youths on behaviors that garner respect, without resorting to violence. The campaign tour takes him to two schools in Brooklyn this week.

His philanthropic work coincides with the release of his upcoming album. Martin's second album titled And Then will be released on May 3 on VP Records.

Several singles, Bun Fi Bun, Come Back and Can't Dweet Again, have already been released, while the focus track, Life, will be premiered on March 15.

CARIBBEAN NEWS US issues leveltwo travel advisory on Jamaica Washington, DC. he US government is cautioning Americans that if they visit Jamaica they could bea at risk of sexual assault and homicide. The US Department of State issued a level-two travel advisory for Jamaica on Friday.

The advisory describes "violent crime," including sexual assaults and homicides, as "common."

US government personnel are barred from driving outside certain neighborhoods of Kingston, the country's capital and largest city, at night, the advisory says.

Fifty-seven other countries have a leveltwo travel advisory from the State Department, including Antarctica because of unpredictable weather. The US Department of State on Friday issued a level-two travel advisory for Jamaica, telling travelers to "exercise increased caution." There are four advisory levels, ranging from "exercise normal precautions" to "do not travel."

The advisory says that "violent crime, such as home invasions, armed robberies, and homicide is common" in Jamaica, as well as that "sexual assaults occur frequently, including at all-inclusive resorts."

Some 4.3 million tourists visited Jamaica in 2017, a record for the Caribbean island nation. But in recent months, reports of violent crime directed at tourists in Jamaica have surfaced.

In an investigation by the Detroit Free Press published in November, several women said that they were sexually assaulted at Sandals Resorts properties in Jamaica and that they were asked to not report them in exchange for free stays and other compensation.

Earlier this year, an elderly Canadian couple were found dead in their vacation home in Jamaica. They are thought to have been killed.

The State Department's advisory says to avoid Spanish Town, as well as certain neighborhoods of Kingston and Montego Bay where "violence and shootings occur regularly." It also says US government personnel are barred from driving outside some Kingston neighborhoods at night. "Local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents," it says.

According to United Nations data, the homicide rate in Jamaica ranks at 47 murders per 100,000 individuals, down from 61 in 2005. That's similar to the murder rates in Detroit and Baltimore, according to FBI data. Jamaica doesn't publish crime statistics on individual cities.

It was ranked as the No. 16 most dangerous city in the world this year, between Cape Town, South Africa, and San Salvador, El Salvador.

Canada has also advised citizens who visit Jamaica to "exercise a high degree of caution" because of violent crime. The UK has a similar advisory, though it says most visits to Jamaica are "trouble-free."

The State Department has level-two travel advisories for 57 other countries, including France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. Those advisories mostly cite an uptick in terrorism concerns in Western Europe.

Antarctica also has a level-two travel advisory because of "environmental hazards posed by extreme and unpredictable weather."

Jamaican Finance Minister defends decision to cut taxes by J$14 b Kingston, Jamaica WI: inance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke has sought to explain the government's decision to cut certain taxes while not reducing the gas tax in keeping with calls from various groups for a reprieve.

On Thursday, the government announced it will scrap the minimum business tax, replace stamp duties with a flat $5,000 fee, reduce the transfer tax, raise the general consumption tax (GCT) threshold and get rid of the asset tax for non-financial institutions as part of a $14 billion dollar tax give back.

Responding to questions on Friday, Dr. Clarke said the government was very strategic in deciding on the $14 billion tax cut.

He said the decision was made based on the country's economic situation. "We are not out of the woods. At 96 per cent of debt to GDP, that leaves us still very vulnerable and so we have to be very strategic in the range of taxes that we choose to reduce; and strategically, we have chosen to make adjustments to distortionary taxes, i.e. taxes that distort business activity, investment activity and economic activity and distort activity across a range of sectors and for everybody.... What we addressed were things that needed to be addressed a long, long, long time ago, the things that inhibit the growth that we want," he declared. He was speaking at a post budget media briefing at the Finance Ministry.

The Finance Minister also responded to assertions by the Parliamentary Opposition that ordinary Jamaicans will not benefit from the $14 billion tax break, arguing that an inclusive budget was announced on Thursday.

The disease is endemic in the Region and, since its reintroduction in the 1980s, has caused cyclical outbreaks and epidemics every three to five years.

The first dengue epidemic with over one million cases occurred in the region in 2010.

Three years later, in 2013, the first epidemic with more than two million cases occurred. At the beginning of 2019, there was an increase in cases compared to the same period of 2018.

“Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes that is widespread in the Americas,” said Dr. Marcos Espinal, director of the Department of Communicable Diseases and Environmental Determinants of Health.

ST JOHN’S, Antigua : n a letter on Tuesday to David Parks, managing director, Caribbean East, of the Bank of Nova Scotia in Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne described Scotiabank’s agreement to sell its local banking operations to Trinidad-based Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL) without consultation with his government as “precipitous, presumptuous and reckless of the interests of BNS’s shareholders to whom you owe a fiduciary responsibility.”

Browne also asserted that an earlier letter from Parks contained “inaccuracies of fact”.

RFHL announced in November that it has agreed to acquire Scotiabank’s operations in the Eastern Caribbean, including Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as operations in Guyana and St Maarten.

However, Browne stopped Scotiabank from proceeding with any sale of its operations in Antigua and Barbuda until application is made to the government and approval given.

Browne also wanted assurances that local banks will be given priority to purchase Scotiabank’s operations in Antigua, and that local customers’ investments and saving will be protected.

In response to Parks pointing out that Scotiabank had agreed to sell not only its operations in Antigua, but eight other countries in the Caribbean as well, Browne said, “You will appreciate that what BNS does in other jurisdictions is not the business of the government of Antigua and Barbuda; we are concerned with our own jurisdiction. In this regard, it was presumptuous of BNS, if not contemptuous, to enter into arrangements with anyone to ‘sell’ its operations in Antigua and Barbuda without, at the very least, consulting with the government.”

Browne also took Parks to task over his statement that “…this agreement (and those in the other Eastern Caribbean countries) is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions” and that “We and Republic are working through the ECCB to obtain these approvals”.

“In repeating this statement, BNS continues to ignore the reality that a vesting order by my government is integral and essential to any sale, and, as I have stated, unequivocally, my government, as the warden of the national interest of Antigua and Barbuda, and after consultations with local banks, does not consider a sale to (Republic) to be in the best interest of our jurisdiction. This remains our firm position,” Browne said.

Authorities seize 3,200 lbs. of cocaine NEWARK: uthorities seized more than 3,200 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $77 million inside a shipping container that arrived at Port Newark last month - the biggest bust there in nearly 25 years, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said in a statement.

The massive bust on February 28 came after authorities checked a shipping container entering the country and finding 60 packages containing a white powdery substance that proved to be cocaine, authorities said. Customs officers turned the cocaine over to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, officials said.

alen Mitchell, 12 defeated his opponent to win gold in the boys Teen 1 orange belt featherweight category at the Pan Kids IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship in California.

Mitchell traveled from Paterson to Long Beach, Calf. to compete. He won

the match on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2019. He competed in a challenging bracket this year after becoming an orange belt, said his father, Naji Mitchell, because the group included multiple returning Pan Kids medalists.

Over 1,700 registered competitors attended the tournament from across the world, said the father.

“To win the largest kids’ martial arts tournament in the world for the second year in a row is an amazing accomplishment because he’s not taking kids by surprise anymore. They know who he is and he’s still able to be successful against the highest level of competition from around the world,” said the young star’s father.

Two people killed in I-80 crash after they got out of disabled vehicle

New Jersey man and woman, both 22, were struck and killed while on I-80 Sunday morning after they got out of their car when it became disabled following a previous minor crash, authorities said.

Sabrina Acosta and Juan Martinez, of Bergenfield, were hit after a westbound ve-

hicle veered into the concrete center barrier, hit the disabled car and overturned, according to State Police.

Acosta and Martinez had gotten out their vehicle shortly before being hit near milepost 59.2 in Paterson around 11:15 a.m., Trooper Alejandro Goez of the New

Jersey State Police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car that hit them, a 34year-old Rockaway woman was brought to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Paterson with minor injuries.

Healthy relationship habits most people think are toxic

By Mark Manson his article explains how traits that don’t fit our traditional narrative for what love is and what love should be are actually necessary ingredients for lasting relationship success.

1. Letting Some Conflicts Go Unresolved: People like to fantasize about “true love.” But if there is such a thing, it requires us to sometimes accept things we don’t like. Successful couples accept and understand that some conflict is inevitable, that there will always be certain things they don’t like about their partners or things they don’t agree with, and that this is fine. You shouldn’t need to feel the need to change somebody in order to love them. And you shouldn’t let some disagreements get in the way of what is otherwise a happy and healthy relationship.

2. Being Willing to Hurt Each Other’s Feelings: It’s important to make something more important in your relationship than merely making each other feel good all of the time. The feel good stuff happens when you get the other stuff right. The sunsets and puppies, they happen when you get the more important stuff right: values, needs and trust. If I feel smothered and need more time alone, I need to be capable of saying that without blaming her and she needs to be capable of hearing it without blaming me, despite the unpleasant feelings it may cause. If she feels that I’m cold and unresponsive to her, she needs to be capable of saying it without blaming me and I need to be capable of hearing it without blaming her, despite the unpleasant feelings it may generate.

3. Being Willing to End It: Romantic sacrifice is idealized in our culture. Show me almost any romantic movie and I’ll show you a desperate and needy character who treats themselves like dog shit for the sake of being in love with someone. The truth is our standards for what a “successful relationship” should be are pretty screwed up. If a relationship ends and someone’s not dead, then we view it as a failure, regardless of the emotional or practical circumstances present in the per-

son’s lives. And that’s kind of insane.

We have no reason to work on ourselves and grow because our partner has to be there no matter what.

4. Feeling Attraction for People outside the Relationship: Looking at attractive people is enjoyable. Speaking to attractive people is enjoyable. Thinking about attractive people is enjoyable. That’s not going to change because of our Facebook relationship status. And when you dampen these impulses towards other people, you dampen them towards your partner as well. You’re killing a part of yourself and it ultimately only comes back to harm your relationship. When I meet a beautiful woman now, I enjoy it, as any man would. But it also reminds me why, out of all of the beautiful women I’ve ever met and dated, I chose to be with my girlfriend. I see in the attractive women everything my girlfriend has and most women lack.

5. Spending Time Apart: It’s important to occasionally get some distance from your partner, assert your independence, and maintain some hobbies or interests that are just yours.

Have some separate friends. Take an occasional

trip somewhere by yourself. Remember what made you you and what drew you to your partner in the first place. Without this space, without this oxygen to breathe, the fire between the two of you will die out and what were once sparks will become only friction.

6. Accepting Your Partner’s Flaws: The most accurate metric for your love of somebody is how you feel about their flaws. If you accept them and even adore some of their short-

comings — her obsessive cleanliness, his awkward social ticks — and they can accept and even adore some of your shortcomings, well, then that’s a sign of true intimacy. And that things can work out. One of the best expressions of this idea came from Plato in the form of a myth. In his Symposium, Plato wrote that humans were originally androgynous and whole. There were no men or women.
