Capelton charged with rape KINGSTON, Jamaica: eigning king of 'fyah', Capelton was last evening arrested and charged with rape by detectives attached to the Centre for Investigation Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (CISOCA).

Capelton, 51, whose real name is Clifton Bailey of a Kingston 10 address, allegedly committed the act against a female hairdresser he hired to groom his hair.

He is to appear before the St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.

Reports from the police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that on Saturday, April 28 about 11:20 am, Bailey allegedly hired a female hairdresser to groom his hair at a hotel in New Kingston area and while at the hotel it's reported that he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The matter was reported to the police and an investigation launched.

Bailey was subsequently charged after a question and answer interview was conducted in the presence of his attorney.

The truth about motherhood!

M

otherhood is the opportunity a woman receives from God to have or raise a child. It is an opportunity and a privilege for that a woman to get to partake in the partnership with God to help in the development of an individual.

A woman that gets to participate in the developmental stage of a child should do her very best in this process. As the old proverbs saying goes, “the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” This means the woman who raises a child determines the character of that child, and so influences the type of society that next generation will create. I think this is a big deal!

Of course, with every opportunity, there is always a challenge because, with a responsibility like this, a woman would need all the help that she can get. However, most times some women have to do this process alone. In which, creates a strain on her, on the family, on the schools and eventually on the society in which that child has to grow up in.

In the United States, 83% of single parents are mothers. Among this percentage of single mothers: 45% of single mothers are currently divorced or sepa-

rated, 1.7% are widowed, and 34% of single mothers have never been married.

With a statistic like this, no wonder our society is in turmoil. There is almost no God-given two-parent family structure, especially within our black communities. The presence of broken homes has dramatically increased. A single mother living in this experience is expected to sacrifice her social and financial independence to take care of her child. Therefore, if she is not psychologically, physiologically, emotionally and financially stable, she will crack under the pressure of motherhood.

In celebrating motherhood, we as a society should highlight the importance of having institutions that can help especially single mothers cope with the day to day life of motherhood. Providing them the support in the area of holistic development, so that, they can be fully equipped to take on the privilege of motherhood.

So let’s celebrate our mothers this mother’s day but let this celebration be one of empowerment. So Happy Mother’s Empowerment day!

ww, it’s good to be back home! So, ladies, so you have found your Mr. Wonderful! Tall, dark, handsome, with bow legs, a great sense of humor, a great job and an enormous 401K. The only problem is, your Mr. Wonderful refuses to commit. “Baby, you know that it has nothing to do with you right?” he asks. “I mean, you’re a great girl and all: sexy, smart, cute, any man’s dream woman.

It’s just that right now I know that I am not ready for a relationship,” he continues to say.

Listening to him reminds you a broken record, doesn’t it ladies? We’ve all heard this tune before. The only question is, why did he refuse to say this at the very offset of the relationship?

Why not before you made wild passionate love beneath the stars, by the fireplace, or with the sand and waves crashing on the beach, in wonderful majestic lovefilled nights? Why wait until you have become emotionally involved, discussing work, family conflicts and dreams of the future?

The blame lays squarely on your shoulders, as you did not apply due diligence, and wholeheartedly with lovestruck eyes, jumped into a situation before instilling some of the golden rules of dating. One such state is to: never become intimate with a man until you have both agreed upon the specific parameters of the relationship.

Your job, at the very beginning of every relationship, is to ask direct, focused questions by enquiring about your new man’s expectations and whether he is ready for a relationship. Your goal is to discover your role in his life, as he sees it. ‘What do you want from me, my brother?’, should be sewn on as many t-shirts as you can find.

Will he then be shifted to the ‘he’s just a friend’ zone, or will you continue to see him as a ‘friend with benefits?’: Depending on how amazing his lovemaking is of course. The choice is yours. My own choice? Being an all or nothing type of lady, he would be banished to the ‘you are not allowed to say anything out of the ordinary to me.’

In other words, no sexual innuendos, jokes, flirtations, or suggestions. His complex behavior is not my burden to carry, and he needs to work on that: on his own. Of course, there would be no hatred towards him, as I wholeheartedly believe that there is someone amazingly wonderful out there

in the universe for me: unfortunately, our stars have not yet connected. In the interim, I refuse to be his ‘in between woman,’ while he figures out his life.

Your Mr. Wonderful should not be allowed to receive the sweetness of your fruit if he has nothing to offer. It’s like to go to the grocery store, filling up a cart with groceries and then going to the cash register with no money in hand: nothing but a big grin on your face. You are not his ‘Stop and Shop’!

If he has nothing to offer emotionally, then his loving should be regulated to a bottle of baby oil, mood lights and a steamy video or magazine of his choice!

TV Director Pleads Guilty to Spying on Nanny WESTCHESTER: former CNBC television director Daniel Switzen, 45 who was arrested in November for spying on his teenage nanny with a hidden camera in his Pleasantville home, has pleaded guilty to Unlawful Surveillance in the 2nd Degree, a class E felony.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. recently announced that on Nov. 13, 2017, Switzen placed a secret camera in a bathroom inside his Pleasantville home. The camera was hidden within a tissue box and was discovered by the victim. Switzen admitted to placing the camera in the bathroom to capture the victim and her friends on video.

Switzen is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Susan Cacace Aug. 21, 2018, and faces one-and-a-half to four years in state prison. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Servino of the Sex Crimes Bureau.

Club shooter gets 125 years to life in prison

By Kimmy Blair Street Hype Writer MOUNT VERNON: rrol Hillary, 41 of the Bronx was sentenced to 125 years to life in the murder of a Mount Vernon nightclub co-owner and the wounding of five other men in the club Christmas Day, 2016.

Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. in a release dated April 30, 2018, said the Sentencing is on the following charges: • one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class A-1 felony: 25 years to life in state prison • five counts of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, class B felonies: 20 years in state prison for each of the five counts.

These sentences will run consecutively, equaling a minimum of 125 years to life in prison.

In addition, on one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a class C felony, Hillary was sentenced to 10 years in state prison to be served concurrently with the other sentences.

On Dec. 25, 2016, at approximately 2:50 a.m., the defendant entered “The Mansion,” a nightclub located at 4 North Third Avenue, Mount Vernon where a Christmas party was being held.

While inside the club, the defendant became agitated and began to cause a disturbance. When security asked him to leave, the defendant began to fight with two members of the security team. Security attempted to forcibly remove the defendant by dragging him to the front door.

O’Neil Bandoo, the co-owner, and manager, of the club, was standing outside with his friend who was the head of security at The Mansion when they heard the commotion. The two men entered the club and asked Hillary to comply with security and leave. That is when the defendant walked toward the front door, grabbed a 9mm firearm from his person and began shooting back into the hallway.

Bronx 'spiritualist' arrested for sexual assault BRONX self-proclaimed spiritual leader in the Bronx was arrested Tuesday night after five people claimed they were sexually assaulted by him.

The alleged victims say Cristian Robles attacked them after he made them drink an unknown liquid. One woman claims she suffered a miscarriage because of his actions.

According to police, Robles threatened the five men and women with a knife on several occasions, and warned them not to call police.

Police say the incidents occurred between March and April in Fordham Heights.

Robles faces charges of sexual assault and criminal weapons possession.

Hillary shot O’Neil Bandoo, 36, one time in the chest killing him. He continued firing his pistol and seriously wounded five others in the hallway. Some suffered multiple gunshot wounds and sustained life-altering injuries.

While the defendant fired into the hallway, he was tackled by the head of security who was able to disarm him. Mount Vernon Police officers arrested Hillary as he fled the scene.

A jury in Westchester County Court convicted Hillary. Summations in the case were heard Friday, March 23, 2018 and the jury returned to court Monday, March 26, 2018 and delivered their verdict later in the day.

At the time of this shooting, the defendant had been released on $200,000 bail for another shooting in the Bronx where he was charged with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree. That case is still open and pending.

NEWS Police arrest son of man found murdered in Brooklyn apartment BROOKLYN: olice have arrested the son of a man who was found dead in Brooklyn over the weekend.

Tyemear Jones faces murder and criminal possession of a weapon charges.

Relatives found 43-year-old Troy Jones Sunday morning with his throat slashed at his apartment building on Flatbush Avenue in Flatlands.

Police say his 23-year-old son fled to New Jersey after he allegedly murdered hs father.

That is where he skipped out on his fare at a rest stop and was arrested by New Jersey state police.

Jones was then handed over to the NYPD.

amaican-born show promoter and businessman Steven “Yello” Williams, 48 who was found guilty of conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of heroin from California to New York will serve 150 months in a Federal prison and fiveyear of supervisory release.

Williams was convicted last year after a one-week jury trial before U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield who sentenced him on April 3, 2018.

Williams’ attorney Andre Tarvieso filed on appeal dated April 20, 2018, to overturn the judge’s decision.

CARIBBEAN NEWS Major' dengue fever outbreak likely, warns CARPHA PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: he Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) says while the mosquito-borne diseases, Chikungunya and Zika, which swept the region in 2014 and 2016 are not expected back anytime soon, the region should “gear-up for the possibility of a major outbreak of dengue fever in 2018”.

CARPHA said the outbreak is possible “because as before, the pre-conditions of abundant mosquito vector levels still exist, and increased levels of dengue are being reported in Latin America and elsewhere.

“It is imperative as rainy season begins in many countries that efforts to stop mosquitos breeding be stepped up, especially for pregnant women and vulnerable populations.”

Dengue is a flu-like illness that affects infants, young children and adults, but can be severe and cause death. Symptoms typically begin four to 10 days after infection.

This may include a high fever, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash. This illness can evolve into severe dengue, characterised by potentially deadly complication due to intense and continuous abdominal pain or tenderness and persistent vomiting.

Court to hear Opposition's NIDS motion June 8 Kingston, Jamaica WI: he Supreme Court is scheduled to have the first hearing of a motion filed by the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) to have some of the provisions in the National Identification System (NIDS) Act declared unconstitutional.

Julian Robinson, the PNP general secretary, made the disclosure yesterday morning at a meeting with senior journalists at the party's headquarters in St Andrew.

Robinson, as well as PNP attorneys Michael Vascianna, Jennifer Housen, Senator Donna Scott-Mottley, and Senator Sophia Frazer-Binns, reiterated the party's position that it was not opposed to the NIDS. However, the Act contains provisions that the PNP insists infringe on Jamaicans' constitutional right to privacy.

The PNP filed the motion on Tuesday, arguing that it had no other course of action available than getting a declaration from the court.

“There were many occasions when we asked for the Bill to be placed before a joint select committee for opportunities for various stakeholders to present their views and for a chance for a more comprehensive consideration of various aspects of the Bill,” PNP President Dr Peter Phillips told journalists at a news conference on Tuesday. That point was reiterated yesterday by Robinson and Scott-Mottley, who said that the party had a duty to the people of Jamaica to challenge the Act's offending provisions.

Caribbean Airlines records 21% increase in revenue PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: egional carrier, Caribbean Airlines (CAL), is reporting a 21 per cent increase in revenue over the last year.

SoHo Bakery Behind Cronut Violates Disability Law, Suit Says The parent company of the SoHo bakery that created the cronut intentionally discriminates against the blind and visually impaired by not bringing its website into compliance with federal, state and local disability law, according to a proposed class action filed in New York federal court Wednesday.

Suit challenges blanket bans on wheelchair users New York, NY: obilization for Justice (formerly MFY Legal Services) and AARP Foundation filed a lawsuit recently in the Southern District of New York against New York State and four adult homes, alleging discrimination against people who use wheelchairs.

The suit was brought on behalf of the Fair Housing Justice Center (FHJC) along with one resident and her representative who allege she was barred from returning to her home of five years after she began using a wheelchair at a rehabilitation facility.

The lawsuit challenges discrimination by four adult homes that are licensed by the State to provide housing and services to people with disabilities, but in practice deny people applying to live in the homes and evict residents already living in the homes who use wheelchairs. The suit also alleges that New York State promotes disability discrimination through its regulations and policies, including its policy permitting adult homes to ban wheelchair users from admission.

“Banning residents who use wheelchairs to get around their home and their community is blatant discrimination on the basis of disability and a violation of federal law,” said Susan Ann Silverstein, Senior Attorney at AARP Foundation Litigation.

After receiving complaints of wheelchair discrimination from residents, FHJC conducted testing at the four adult homes operated by defendants Village Housing Development Fund, Elm York LLC, Madison York Assisted Living Community LLC, and Madison York Rego Park LLC. FHJC’s investigation revealed that the defendant adult homes had blanket policies barring wheelchair users, regardless of their individual needs or abilities, and steered applicants who use wheelchairs to nursing homes.

“People with disabilities who use wheelchairs must have equal access to

inappropriate for assisted living and sends them to a nursing home,” said Jota Borgmann, Senior Staff Attorney at Mobilization for Justice. “And, worse yet, New York State shamefully maintains that it is perfectly fine for adult homes to discriminate against people who use wheelchairs.”

New York State Department of Health regulations state that adult homes and assisted living programs should not admit or retain people who are “chronically chairfast.” The regulations were enacted in 1978. This was prior to passage of the federal Fair Housing Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Affordable Care Act, and prior to the Supreme Court’s decision in Olmstead v. L.C., which made it clear that unnecessarily relegating people with disabilities to institutional settings is illegal discrimination. Yet the State has never updated the regulations to comply with federal protections against disability discrimination, despite being informed by advocates on multiple occasions over the years that the regulations are unlawful.

Collectively, the defendant adult homes are licensed to house over seven hundred people.

Caribbean Cup Tennis Series circuit launched TORONTO, Canada: amaican born Karl Hale – Rogers Cup tournament director – teamed up with over 150 people on February 8 in Toronto, Canada, to launch the Caribbean Cup Tennis Series (CCTS).

The CCTS features six masters tournaments and 14 series tournaments, in seven countries throughout the Caribbean. Each tournament is centered on local youth development, Caribbean travel, and charity, and each event offers participants a chance to challenge top ranked players from around the globe.

April 28-May 4, 2018, brought athletes from around the world to the beautiful, warm city of Montego Bay, Jamaica, for the fifth annual Jamaica Cup Tennis Championships (the first event of the 2018 CCTS circuit).

Jamaica Cup featured both adult and junior ITF sanctioned tournaments, an adult tennis camp, as well as a week full of fundraising, networking and nightly entertainment.

A highlight of the week was the first ever CCTS Hall of Fame induction ceremony, on Saturday, April 28. Former tennis superstar, and current coach – Richard Russell – was inducted into the Jamaica Cup Hall of Fame for his dedication to the sport of tennis in Jamaica.

Fifty-two years ago, a quartet of high school boys from Jamaica competed and won several medals at the Penn Relays, however today the island put forward the largest contingent of athletes during the three-day festival.

Calabar High made a clean sweep of the high school boys Championship of America relays on Saturday's final day of competition. The team of Malik JamesKing, Anthony Danvers, Shemar Chambers and Christopher Taylor recorded a brilliant 3 minutes, 03.79 seconds in the 4x400m to erase last year's record of 3:08.59 which they had done to win the event.

Jamaica drew first blood in the USA vs the World series at the Penn Relays, after taking the women's 4x100 metres relay, as the quartet of Gayon Evans, Kerron Stewart, Jura Levy and Schillone Calvert-Powell, clocked 43.14 seconds.

It was a good start from Evans, who put the Jamaicans in a strong position with Stewart holding her own on the second leg, before giving Levy and Calvert-Powell little to do, as USA Red finished second in 43.18 seconds with their Blue team coming in third in 43.71 seconds.

Minutes later, the United States drew level, as their Blue team with an excellent run from Justin Gatlin on second leg, stopped the clock at 38.49 seconds, while their Red team got second place in 38.72 seconds. Jamaica had to settle for third, with the team of Nesta Carter, Tyquendo Tracey, Oshane Bailey and Jevaughn Minzie, clocking 39.17 seconds.

This year’s edition of the three-day University of Pennsylvania’s track and field meet, which started Thursday and ended Saturday April 29, featured a huge Jamaican contingent of boys and girls.

Kingston College, the first winning high school, was joined by 35 other Jamaican high schools and five colleges.

Over the years since 1964, the Jamaican participants have continued their winning ways, populated the 121-year-old meet’s records books and consistently thrilled track and field fans. Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Yohan Blake and many other famed Jamaicans performed at the Penn Relays.

On Friday, Jamaica's Edwin Allen H.S. stood out by winning the girl's 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter championship relays. The school continued to perform early Saturday with Edwin Allen's Rayan Holmes winning the boys 400-meter hurdles championship.

CARICOM and FIFA promotes collaborative effort GEORGETOWN, Guyana: he CARICOM Secretariat is currently reviewing a proposal from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) for collaborative efforts to enhance human development in the Region.

Assistant secretary-general, human and social development at the CARICOM Secretariat, Dr.Douglas Slater, has advised that the CARICOM Secretariat is currently reviewing the proposal that FIFA submitted.

In his presentation, Mosengo-Omda said it was FIFA’s intention to start a regional primary school football competition with the main objective of strengthening the sport across the region. He said that such an initiative was important to the moral and social fabric of the region and noted that sports, specifically football, could be used as a vehicle to combat social ills that many times were

associated with youths.

Slater also acknowledged the importance of sports, including football, in contributing to human resource development, which is the focus of the COHSOD meeting.

Regarding whether or not CARICOM would be signing an MOU with FIFA, Slater said a decision would be made after the assessment of the document was completed. The 34th COHSOD is being held under the theme ‘Positioning Human Resource Development as Central to Caribbean Resilience and Development’.

We Speak New York is a series of dramas about the lives of working class immigrants who come from all over the world to make New York their home.

The show is created by the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and the City University of New York. It is designed to assist adult immigrants for whom English is a second language in improving their understanding of English by watching the series, as well as to learn about their rights to city and community services. The show deals with topics as diverse as workers and immigration rights, the struggle to make ends meet in New York City, family issues and early childhood education, among others.

Season One of the series was titled We Are New York.

Dixon, last seen onstage in the world premiere production of the new musical Falling in Love With Mr. Dellamort at The Slipper Room , made a bold red carpet statement in a green African inspired dress with dramatic black turban, which paid homage to the character she plays on the show.

She appears in the episode Cesar’s Journey as Nana Aidoo, an African born ESL (English as a second language) teacher who helps guide a group of frightened and unsettled immigrants achieve a better understanding of American life through her work with them inside and outside the classroom.

Dixon describes her as a “Wise, thoughtful and humorous woman with great empathy who remembers all too well her own arrival and difficult adjustment to life in the USA as a non English speaking immigrant and who uses her own stories and experiences to support and inspire her students.”

For Dixon, an actress who has become renowned for her affinity with difficult accents, the role was yet another opportunity for her to “speak in tongues.” In a career spanning nearly fifteen years she has played characters from throughout the Caribbean , all over the United states as well as both east and west Africa.

She has never had formal dialect training but has always had an extremely sharp ear and a talent for imitation.

“Everywhere I travel, I always pay special attention to the local dialects- the rhythms, cadences and music in the voices of the people,” she says. “And I’ve always been a very good mimic so I pick up on that easily

When life gets messy

By Solemn-vow he study of the book of Hebrews is really intentional about expressing the reason why Jesus Christ came and what He did for us on the cross.

It also explained to us the importance of knowing that Jesus was Fully Human and Fully God. This means he encountered the same things we did and even more. Let’s focus on the human-ness of Christ and some of the things he would have struggled with in His Human form. He had the same emotions, he was sensitive even to the point of feeling our pain. This is seen in the shortest verse in the bible, John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” He was lied on, betrayed, talked about. His own friends did not believe who he said he was, and so, he had to constantly prove himself to them. His family wanted him to stick to carpentry because they did not fully understand His call. People were jealous of him, some knew him from when he was growing up so they put him in a box about who they think he is.

They could not imagine Him being a heavenly king. He seemed crazy by the things he would say, sometimes he did not have someone who he could talk to, and sometimes he did not know how to express how he was feeling. He was misunderstood, he would get sad, lonely, anxious and even depressed. Sometimes he would feel jealous because he wished he could just exist without the plan of him dying for people who didn’t really love Him.

He would even get mad at the Father for putting him through those agonies, and sometimes he wished he was never born in humanity. With all of those struggles happening to Him, He had to remain discipline to never use His godliness to change humanity. How agonizing is this?

However the story is not over. He suffered for us and right now, He is no longer a little lower than the angels. Now he is wearing a crown of glory and honor because he suffered, died and by God’s Grace he died for everyone. (Hebrews 2:9). I know many of us have suffered, we’ve been treated unfairly, battled diseases, stroken down, felt defeated and alone.

Jesus understands, and he wants you to know that even through those things.

You are not destroyed. He defeated the grave, you are alive in Him and just as he told Lazarus, He is telling us to rise up and walk! We are alive! We are not dead, we are not destroyed! Know that your story is not over and at any moment your life can change.

NEW JERSEY Connecticut Man sentenced to prison for role in $5 M fraud scheme NEWARK, N.J. - A Fairfield, Connecticut, man was sentenced recently to 19 months in prison for his role in a securities scheme that defrauded investors out of more than $5 million, U.S. Attorney Carpenito said.

James Trolice, 64, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge William J. Martini to a two-count information charging him with securities fraud and transacting in criminal proceeds. Judge Martini imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court: Trolice was the president and owner of Trolice Consulting Services LLC and the president and chief marketing officer of eAgency, a California-based company that developed mobile security products. Trolice and Lee Vaccaro, 46, of Las Vegas, sold investors interests in Trolice Consulting Services and companies Vaccaro controlled and falsely represented to investors that those companies held warrants in eAgency. Warrants are derivative securities that give the holder the right to purchase common stock at a specific price within a certain time frame.

Trolice admitted that he made oral and written misrepresentations concerning the existence, number, validity, and term of eAgency warrants purportedly owned by the investment companies; the amount of money he had personally invested in and raised for eAgency; and his current position at eAgency.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Martini sentenced Trolice to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $5,000,512.65 representing the proceeds of his offense.

Couple sentenced for bilking $317K from state using phony claims A

former North Bergen man was sent to prison Monday and must pay back the state for more than $317,000 in false unemployment and disability claims he filed over three years.

Jose Crespo, 52, now of New Castle, Del., was sentenced to eight years in state prison, with three years of parole ineligibility,

by Mercer County Superior Court Judge Peter E. Warshaw, Jr. The judge also ordered him to pay $317,736 in restitution.

Crespo, who previously lived in Fort Lee, pleased guilty in April 2017 to one count of second-degree computer theft.

His wife, Marilyn Crespo, 50, pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and was sentenced to the drug court program. If she fails to complete the program she will go to prison for 5 years, State Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal said in a statement.

Court kills $6.7B prescription drug contract for N.J. public workers

n appeals court on Friday threw out the state's $6.7 billion contract for prescription drug benefit management and ordered that the enormous contract be rebid.

The court found that the winning bid included language that improperly broke from the bid specifications and gave OptumRx "a clear competitive advantage."

The ruling complicates pharmaceutical benefits for more than 800,000 New Jersey public workers and the $1.6 billion employees and state and local governments are projected to save over the contract's three-year run.

A spokeswoman for Express Scripts, which brought the suit, told NJ Advance

Media it is "encouraged by the decision and looks forward to the opportunity to participate in the re-bidding process."

Doctor gets two years for taking bribes NEWARK, N.J. – Monmouth County doctor with practices in Colts Neck, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York, was sentenced today to 24 months in prison for accepting bribes in exchange for test referrals as part of a long-running and elaborate scheme operated by Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services LLC (BLS), of Parsippany, New Jersey, its president and numerous associates, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Ralph Messo, 56, of Colts Neck, New Jersey, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler to an information charging him with one count of accepting bribes. Judge Chesler imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

According to documents filed in this and related cases and statements made in court: Messo admitted he accepted bribes in return for referring patient blood specimens to BLS and was paid approximately $3,000 per month. Messo’s referrals generated at least $828,000 in lab business for BLS.

RELATIONSHIP: Six things to say to convince your partner to stay

By Abby Rodman, LICSW 1. When it’s news to you: I know you’re ready to call it quits. The thought of that is devastating to me especially since it seems so sudden. This is all so unexpected and I don’t know what to make of it. Given all the time we’ve had together, I’m asking you to consider setting a mutually agreed upon timeline for your leaving. Please understand that I need some time to adjust (and so do the kids). If you still feel the same way in x months, I won’t stand in your way — but I hope we’ll use that time to try and fix what’s broken.

2. When forgiveness is the issue: You know I’ve been having a hard time forgiving you for your (affair, lying, unavailability) but I know I have to if I want you to stay in this relationship. You’ve apologized but I haven’t really heard you. I’m sure you think I’ll never forgive you and that we’ll be fighting about this forever. I promise you, that’s not the case. I’m going to do everything in my power — and I’m committed — to fully forgiving you and moving on. I hope you’ll give me a chance to show you I’m capable of this.

3. When the kids are (almost) gone: You really seem in a hurry to leave — and I understand that. Neither one of us has been happy here for a long time. You know I really don’t want this but we have to consider that the kids are struggling, too.

Given that they’re in high school (or leaving home soon), we only have a short time left to live together as a family. I truly think that would be the best thing for all of us. If you can wait a little while, I don’t think you’ll regret you made that choice for them. Please think about it 4. When you need help — and haven’t gotten it: It seems crazy to throw away our relationship without getting some outside advice. We’ve put so much time and energy into our marriage (and family) that it’s only wise to see if we can make improvements with the help of a professional.

On top of that, we really want to be able to tell the kids we tried everything to hold our marriage together. If we don’t at least try couples therapy, we won’t be able to tell them that and mean it. We have to show them that our marriage — and our family — was worth fighting for.

5. When you’re ready to take ownership: I know you’re having a hard time forgiving me for my (affair, addiction, neglect) and I totally get that. Now, I’m paying the price for my behaviors and you’re ready to leave — and it’s killing me.

Maybe I haven’t shown you enough how sorry I am. I know I’ve hurt you through my words and actions and it slays me to see you in so much pain. I certainly have a lot of making up to do. Would you consider staying a while longer so I can show you I can take full responsibility?

6. When the relationship has been an afterthought: I can’t believe we’ve gotten to this place where you want to end our relationship. I’m sad to say that I kind of get

it. Neither one of us has put much effort into it for a very long time. We’ve let everything else take priority — work, the kids, our families — and we’ve neglected what was once a very good thing. I’m horrified that things have deteriorated to this point and I’m wondering if there’s any chance we could try again. We loved each other once. We really did. Here are some simple tips to get you started.

Quickly clean your computer Screens and keyboards become dusty and grimy with daily use. It's worth spending a few minutes cleaning them up from time to time.

First, turn off your machine and unplug it: you shouldn't clean your computer when it's on.

A flat-screen monitor or laptop display needs delicate treatment.

Lightly dampen a soft, lint-free cloth (don't use paper towels) and wipe from side to side, never in a circle. Never clean your screen with products containing acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia or methyl chloride.

Keyboards tend to fill up with dust, fluff, crumbs and other detritus that can damage the inner workings. Unplug it (if yours is free-standing), turn it upside-down and shake, then vacuum it with the brush attachment. Cans of compressed air, available at camera shops, can be used to blow dust from between the keys. Don't use household cleaners or a wet cloth on a keyboard.

Freeing up computer memory To keep your computer working smoothly, you need at least 700 megabytes (Mb) of free memory.

You can check how much space you have on your hard disk (usually drive C) by clicking on the

"Start" button then "Computer". If you need to make more space, try some of the following tips.

Regularly go through old files and delete any you don't need.

Uninstall any software you don't use by deleting programs through the control panel.

Move big files to an external hard disk. This is a good idea for movies, photos or music files that you want to keep but don't need to access all the time. Move or copy the files, delete the originals from your computer and simply plug in the external drive when you need it.

Backing up your PC Some operating systems come with an automatic back-up facility.

You can specify variables such as which files you want to back up, where you want to store the files, and how often you want to run the program.

Look for a "Backup and Restore" application on your computer. Then follow the steps outlined on-screen.

You can keep your back-ups in a partition of your computer's hard

drive, but it's safer to back up to a separate device, such as an external hard drive.

That way, you don't lose your files if your computer gets lost or broken beyond repair.

For a small monthly fee you can back up your files to a secure online server (type "online back-up" into a search engine).

A crude way to make back-ups is simply to drag and copy all vital files to a new folder on an external hard disk (include the date of the back-up in the folder's name). Just remember: any back-up is better than none at all.

HEALTH Gonorrhea and chlamydia diagnoses increase among gay men

T

he Health Department recently released a new Vital Signs report about rectal STIs and the risk for later HIV infection among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM).

According to the report, 1 in 15 (7 percent) of HIV-negative MSM who were diagnosed with rectal gonorrhea or rectal chlamydia, or both, at the Health Department’s Sexual Health Clinics were diagnosed with HIV within one year of their diagnosis.

From 2011 to 2016, there were steady increases in the number of rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia diagnoses reported citywide to the Health Department. This is attributable to an increase in the number of laboratories offering rectal testing, the increases in the number of health care providers who tested patients, and potentially more people with these STIs. However, an analysis of the data suggest that cases are underdiagnosed, and thus underreported. The Vital Signs can be found online (PDF).

Screening for and diagnosing rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia among MSM is critical for targeting HIV prevention interventions.

Despite national, state and local recommendations to screen MSM who engage in receptive anal sex for rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia, not enough health care facilities across the City are reporting these diagnoses among HIV-negative men. Only 118 facilities reported at least one case of rectal gonorrhea or chlamydia among HIV-negative MSM in 2015.

In 2015, the majority of rectal gonorrhea and chlamydia diagnoses were reported by providers and facilities in neighborhoods where many MSM live. However, there were neighborhoods in Queens and Brooklyn where a large number of MSM live, but where very few diagnoses of rectal STIs were reported.
