KINGSTON, Jamaica: he Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) was declared the winner of the 2016 general election, after claiming 33 of the 63 constituency seats in Jamaica’s general elections held on Thur. Feb 25. Over the next several days, the JLP will begin forming the island nation’s new government after the People’s National Party (PNP) only managed to win 30 constituency seats. With the country’s economy at the forefront, Holness has announced that he plans to meet with International Monetary Fund (IMF) representatives during the first week of March. Figures released by the Electoral Office of Jamaica show the JLP secured 50.1 percent of the popular vote, compared to the PNP’s 49.6 percent. Continued on page 4
