Hi Guys Welcome to our September edition of our newsletter. Let me ask you…How many times have you dreamed about what it would be like to lead a wealthy life? Many people spend their entire life wishing they had more money, but they never do anything about it. The truth is, you can live a more prosperous life if you are prepared to make some changes in your life. The Cirst place in which change needs to happen is in your mind. Best of all, it can happen much sooner than you think. Not only is this shift in mindset possible, but in the right environment, it's easy to do. You can do it in a heartbeat when you have a reason "why". Wealth isn’t just about Cinancial prosperity. It’s also about mental and emotional wealth; it’s about abundance and success in every area of your life. Prosperity deCinitely includes Cinancial wealth, but it should never be limited to this. The problem with a lot of us is that we have viruses in our minds. These viruses are stopping you at the moment from moving to that new level. My friend, I want to help you change that! If you don't change that and get rid of the viruses, prosperity won't last. Having the right dream for success and the determination to succeed is not enough. You need to be able to change your mindset to consistently think how wealthy people think. Generally speaking, true prosperity does not happen by accident. It takes a decision on your part to become prosperous. You have to be committed to prosperity. If you want to prosper, then there’s only one person that matters— you! Being wealthy means not only changing your mindset to think differently about yourself (and overcoming your mind viruses), but also how you think about your future. Your future is not predetermined. Rather, you create your future by the decisions and choices you make today. What you need is a dream, a clear vision of the future you want to create for yourself. Are you ready for a mind shift? Are you willing to get rid of thought patterns, ideas about yourself and your world, and mindsets about money and wealth that have kept you contained? Are you willing to kick out those thought patterns, ideas and mindsets that have prevented you from stepping into the truly prosperous life that you were born for and that is waiting to be discovered? Do you want to have a millionaire mindset? Then let’s get started! I’m sure you will enjoy this months’ issue…

prosperity is a habit… get hooked on it! Some time ago, I came across the following quotation that has had an amazing impact on my life: I am your constant companion, I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command. Half the things you do you might just as well turn over to me and I will be able to do them quickly and correctly. I am easily managed—you must merely be ?irm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically. I am the servant of all great people; and alas, of all failures as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures. I am not a machine, though I work with all the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a human. You may run me for a pro?it or run me for ruin—it makes no difference to me. Take me, train me, be ?irm with me, and I will place the world at your feet. Be easy with me, and I will destroy you. WHO AM I? I AM HABIT…

Think of prosperity as a habit. One dictionary deCines ‘habit’ as “a custom, a disposition, a mannerism, a practice, a tendency and a way”. We need to develop prosperity as a custom, a disposition in our lives, as a mannerism or something we practice without having to think about it. Remember, practice makes perfect. Not that we are striving for perfection, but the more you practice being prosperous, the more likely you are to be prosperous. Some people make it their habit and their practice to fail. Others seem constantly to land on their feet because they are in the practice of succeeding and seeing their lives Clourish and blossom. The great boxing champion, Joe Frazier, once said after winning a world title, “A champion is not made in the ring, he is merely recognised in the ring”. It’s the daily disciplines of life—getting up and running in the early, dark hours of the morning —that make the difference. If you take a shortcut in the early, dark hours in the disciplines and habits that every great champion needs to develop, then this will show up later in the ring under the lights for all to see.

Here are seven things about habits that we need to understand in order to be in the habit of prospering: A habit must be fed in order to grow. Many people are good at feeding bad habits. But to overcome a bad habit you need to starve it. Conversely, you need to feed good habits in order for them to grow. You can either feed or starve success in your life. For instance, get into the habit of learning and acquiring knowledge. The greatest hunger you can ever satisfy is the hunger in your mind and in your soul to be successful and to prosper. That is the greatest hunger you will ever feed. It’s also the most important, because it is the anchor on which everything depends. Don’t feed your negative habits — feed the positive ones. Habits form destinies. We all know people—family, friends, associates —whose lives have been dictated by bad habits. Many of those who commit crimes are simply reaping fruit from the tree of bad habits. Over the years, they fed their bad habits and the habits shaped their destinies. The converse is also true. Many men and women who have attained great heights of wealth and prosperity have done so because they formed their destinies by cultivating good habits— habits such as getting up at a particular time each day, choosing friends wisely, not being wasteful. Habits also determine who your acquaintances are. We tend to become friendly with those who share our habits. People who are troublesome tend to be acquainted with troublesome people; they typically don’t hang out with wealthy, prosperous, successful or positive people. People who are in the habit of gossiping generally hang around with other gossips. Those of us who wish to be prosperous ought to form acquaintances that will lead towards prosperity and associate with people who will teach us how to become more prosperous. My late father often used to say to me, “Tell me who you walk with and I will tell you what you will become”. There is an old saying, “Bad company corrupts good morals”.

Iron sharpens iron but lead will cause you to sink to the bottom every time. Who are your acquaintances right now? Are you associating with people who are expanding you and leading you into prosperity or with people who are restricting you and impoverishing you as a person and causing you to live beneath your desired level of prosperity? Habits form passions. Things that start as habits can become passions. Look at a person who has a gambling habit or a habit of consuming too much alcohol or who habitually overeats. These people become passionate about things they are addicted to — gambling, drinking or food. The desire for these things becomes insatiable. It is sometimes said of alcoholism that a thousand drinks are never enough and one is way too many. As people who desire to prosper, we need to develop a passion for prosperity through which we Cilter our lifestyle, our friends and acquaintances and our habits and through which we project our destinies. What it is that you are passionate about will determine your level of prosperity. Some people are passionate about watching Sunday sports; some are passionate about watching soap operas. Their prosperity will be limited by these passions. Others who are passionate about work and productivity and increase will enjoy the prosperity that follows such passions. Habits determine your focus. Habits will determine the focus of your life. Your habits will determine where your energy is directed and where your mental capacity is invested. They will determine the focus of your investment in yourself and in others. When you develop prosperity as a habit, you will see with different eyes. Your focus will be different. You’ll Cind yourself generally focusing on what is good in people, not what is bad. You’ll focus on today ’s opportunities rather than ordinariness. You will invest and spend according to your habits, just as the gambler or the alcoholic spend and ‘invest’ in the areas of their addictions.

Habits can cause you loss or gain. If you are struggling to achieve the level of prosperity that you would like to see in your world, there may be some habits in your life that are costing you. In order to turn things around, you may need to develop new habits that bring gain to your life. Wealth and prosperity require a new level of thinking. Albert Einstein once said, “The problems we face today cannot be solved on the same level of thinking we were at when we created them”. The great news is that no matter how difCicult or complicated life gets, you can create great habits for prosperity. All you need to do is start thinking in a manner that will cause those habits to grow in your life. John Maxwell, in his book “Thinking for a Change”, says this: “I have observed three things about unsuccessful people, average people and successful people: 

Unsuccessful people focus their thinking on survival

Average people focus their thinking on maintenance

Successful people focus their thinking on progress”

In forming good habits, there can be no exceptions. When it comes to habits, there can be no such luxury as, “I’ll let it go just this once”. A friend of mine told me how at one time he got sick and tired of watching his wife picking up his clothes after him. He was married to his wife, not his maid. Therefore, he owed it to her to get into a daily habit of putting his dirty laundry in the clothes basket as she had so often requested. He decided that from that day on, he would pick his clothes up off the Cloor and put them in the basket every day. One day he was on his way to a speaking engagement and, twenty miles from home, he realised he had left his clothes on the Cloor. He

quickly turned around, drove back home, put the clothes in the laundry basket and set off again for his engagement (still arriving on time as prosperous people do!). When I asked him why he’d done that, he said, “Pat, I got into the habit of doing it right. If I’d allowed myself to make an exception just that one time, it would have created another negative habit.” The bottom line is he never again forgot to put his clothes in the basket because everyday he would remember that twenty-‐mile drive. You determine your habits; your habits determine your future. What you do each day will determine what you become permanently. All failure and all success can be traced back to daily habits, daily disappointments and daily mindsets. Money habits have made people rich and money habits have made people paupers. It all depends on what particular habits we choose to sow into our lives. I like the following quote: “Changes of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be broken”. Your habits are either strengthened or weakened by your daily associations, thought patterns and disciplines. Your prosperity can either scale upwards or it can spiral downwards depending on the habits you choose to build into your life. Right now, take a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the left hand side of the page, make an inventory of your existing habits. Think about behaviours, attitudes, dispositions, mannerisms, practices or tendencies that you have developed and fed, that you have become acquainted with. Think about things that you are passionate about, that you are focused on and that you spend your time and money on. Now on the other side of the page, identify habits that you must develop to become prosperous, habits that you must be acquainted with and passionate about. Habits that will form your focus, habits to do with where you will spend and invest to increase your prosperity. PAT MESITI

if humpty dumpty knew he was an egg, he would never have climbed the wall… What am I talking about? Simply this; we are all fragile, every one of us. We all encounter challenges and tensions. We all deal with Cinancial pressures and emotional strains. And sometimes we fail. We have to remember our frailty as human beings and exercise caution in what we expect from ourselves and others. Sometimes we expect our partner or ourselves to be perfect, but we are all “crackable” under pressure. So it is important to have people and mechanisms in our lives that remind us that we are human, that keep us accountable and help us release tension… otherwise we’re headed for a mighty great fall. Former world boxing champion Mohammed Ali once boarded a plane and was asked by a Clight attendant to fasten his seat belt. Ali said, “Superman don’t need no seat belt.” To which the attendant replied, “Superman don’t need no airplane either.” All of us at some point can believe we are Superman or Superwoman. But in fact, like Humpty Dumpty, we are “crackable”. What area of your life is starting to show cracks? What reserves are you putting in your tank right now to help you in the long haul? Are you determined that even if you do crack under pressure that you will bounce back better, stronger, smarter? In his interview with Australian television program, Australian Story, Wayne Bennett, the great coach for Australian rugby league club, the Brisbane Broncos, said, “My life has been adversity. But from each disaster I have come back stronger. I don’t fear what is happening; I know how to battle through it. I know my family and I will come out the other side. It is just a matter of when and knowing we will be better for it. We will be stronger people and we will appreciate winning more than we ever have in the past.” That was just after his team had lost seven and drawn one of their Cirst nine games in the 1999 rugby league season. I have learned that it doesn’t matter who wants you to bounce back, it’s whether you want to bounce back. It’s whether you want to piece your life together again. Everybody’s good intentions are irrelevant. The issue is, are you willing to piece your life together again and move on? Are you determined that Humpty Dumpty will bounce back, and not splatter on the ground? I often wondered why all the kings’ horses and all the kings’ men couldn’t put Humpty together again. It’s because they weren’t meant to. He was meant to. He was meant to piece his own life together again, and so are you. PAT MESITI

trading the stock market — is it really gambling? I’m hearing a lot of people say that now is a great time to invest in the stock market, because stocks are cheap. So is it true? Well, firstly it’s important to realise that cheap is a relative term. I can show you a $10 stock that used to be $100. Is that cheap? Well, that $10 stock could still go to $1, making it a very expensive stock indeed! While there’s no question that stocks are trading at a fraction of the price they were 12 months ago, the buying opportunities within that are very mixed. On one hand, there are a lot of good stocks trading at historically low prices, that represent fantastic buying opportunities. But there are also many stocks that will continue to fall. So how do we use the economic environment to our advantage? The answer is that there is only one way to make money in a volatile market. And that is to know what you are doing. People often ask me whether trading the stock market is really gambling. The answer is yes – if you’re trading without the right knowledge. In a rising market it’s a safer gamble, because most stocks are going up. But it’s still gambling, and in a market like the current one, it’s not much better than playing the pokies unless you really understand what you’re doing. Financial literacy education through schools and universities is pretty dismal in Australia. The good news is that there are plenty of other ways to get educated. There are books, there are seminars and courses, there is heaps of information online. Of course the quality is varied, so it’s important to identify who’s good, who’s reputable, who’s been doing it for a reasonable length of time. By understanding how the stock market works, and how to manage – ‘hedge’ – your risk, you can really trade, rather than gambling. I teach my students never to place a trade before they’ve written a trading plan. In that we identify the risks, how we’re going to hedge that risk, what we’ll do if the price goes up, what we’ll do if it goes down. We’ve worked out all our contingency plans along with the potential profit or potential loss. So whatever happens, we’re not worried. The good news is that literally anyone can learn how to do this. If you can read and write, do simple arithmetic, and use a calculator, you can learn to trade. In upcoming issues we’ll look at shares, options and CFDs, which are all concepts you need to understand in order to trade. By Daniel Kertcher Daniel Kertcher has taught more than 100,000 people how to trade the stock market since he established his company, Platinum Pursuits, in 2001. He holds DFP and PS146 qualifications as well as ASX qualifications in options. He has authored two books on stock market trading, as well as the world’s only options trading board game, Call Up Put Down.
