October 2024 EVENTS
Board of directors
Stephen McMahan President
Dear Members,
Steve Thoms First Vice President
Robert Sabo Treasurer
Melissa Sackman Secretary
Thank you to those of you who attended our Board of Directors Meeting in September. For those of you that were unable to attend, please see below for a recap.
We would like to inform all residents that, following a review of information from the North Springs Improvement District (NSID) and consultations with legal counsel, fishing is strictly prohibited throughout the community.
Parkland Police Captain Michelle McCardie
Captain McCardie provided an update on the current crime trends affecting the community She noted that recent incidents are not isolated to Parkland Golf but are part of a broader pattern impacting the entire tricounty area. In response, she urged all members to remain vigilant and take simple preventative measures, such as always locking their car doors, to help deter potential crime.
Management Report
Mary Banmiller reported on the progress of various projects within the community. Mary provided an update on the upcoming landscaping efforts, including the next flower rotation, mulch application, and tree trimming throughout the community She also shared the progress on the pickleball courts, mentioning that she met with Welch last week and confirmed that everything is proceeding as planned The courts are expected to be completed by the end of November
Tom Tripoli reported that the team is actively working on the community business plan. The budget workbooks are expected to be completed this week, followed by a review process. The goal is to have the first draft ready for the Finance Committee by mid-October, with the Board reviewing it in early November.
Additionally, a golf course update was recently sent to the community, primarily focusing on the next steps in landscaping. The next communication will provide details regarding the lakes and protected areas.
Approvals
The Board approved the following items:
Nob Hill & University Entrance Landscaping Projects.
Per the information gathered from both NSID and legal counsel, fishing is prohibited throughout the community.
Accepted the Fine Committee's recommendation to reduce a Member's suspension to time served.

Agronomy
Dear Members,
As we transition from summer to the cooler months, the PGCC Landscape and Agronomy Teams are excited to share several upcoming projects that will enhance both the beauty of our community and the playability of the golf course.
One of the most noticeable changes will be the transition from summer to winter annuals, which will bring a vibrant and refreshed look to our flower beds Over the next few weeks, we will remove the current flowers, add new soil, and prepare the beds with amendments such as peat and fertilizer to support the new plantings. The winter annuals will be installed by the end of
October, timed perfectly to ensure a stunning display for Thanksgiving and the holiday season
On the golf course, our team has been working diligently on a series of improvements aimed at elevating the overall experience for our Members. These enhancements include new landscape installations at several key areas, such as the Back Nine Comfort Station, the practice facility, and various tee and green complexes. The first phase of these projects will begin this fall, with additional work continuing into the first quarter of 2025. While the schedule may be subject to change due to weather or material availability, we are committed to completing these upgrades in a timely and efficient manner
In addition to the landscaping work, we are also focusing on the management of the lakes and protected wetlands on the course. These areas, which include littoral shelves and wetlands, play a vital role in supporting the environment by preventing erosion, filtering water, and providing habitats for wildlife. Maintaining these ecosystems is a priority, and we will continue to do so with care and attention
We are excited to see these enhancements take shape and believe they will greatly enhance both the visual appeal and playability of our facilities. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to sharing the results with you in the coming months. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Dear Members,
October is here and we are ramping up for a busy season. You will see some new team members around the club as we prepare to elevate our member experience. Please welcome them as you always do and I look forward to updates on your experiences with them.
As we enter our shoulder months and welcome our Members back to the Club, I would like to remind everyone to please make reservations or call ahead anytime possible so that we can prepare accordingly. The Member experience is greatly affected by “walk-in” business and delays our ability to properly elevate the Member experience. This is prevalent on Friday nights as last week we had reservations for 85 covers and ended the night with 240 covers. We are consistently prepared for this on Friday nights but in an effort to control costs we do not overstaff on other evenings. We appreciate your support on this important matter!
Tuesday Family Night Buffets are starting on October 8th at the Sports Club! In an effort to increase our family offerings for season, we will be bringing our Tuesday Night buffets to the Sports Building for the month of October. We will continue these throughout season dependent on the Member support during October. This will be similar to the buffets in the past at The Park, but executed at a higher level since our staff will not be split between buffet and à la carte business. This will lead to a better overall Member experience in both locations.
With this addition to Tuesdays at the Sports Club, the Park will be moving Pasta in the Park to Wednesday Nights starting on Wednesday October 9th. The Park will serve the Park Plates menu on Tuesdays 3:00pm –8:00pm.

racquet sports
Dear Members,
With the end-of-summer rain in full swing, you may have noticed some high lines forming on the tennis courts. This is due to the natural east-towest slope of the courts, causing material to shift during heavy downpours and settle on the low side of the courts
Rest assured, our diligent maintenance team is hard at work moving the materials and keeping the courts in optimal condition. However, with the frequent storms, it has been an uphill battle. We appreciate your patience as we continue to address this challenge and ensure the best possible playing conditions.
We kindly ask all members to ensure that both their name and the name of their guest(s) are entered correctly when using the court reservation system This helps us accurately track court usage and manage play
Please refrain from adding additional family members or other members who are not participating, as this can interfere with our ability to monitor court availability and usage. Your cooperation ensures a smoother experience for everyone.

Why Leg Strength Matters:
1.
2.

Dear Members,
I hope you are having a great start to Fall.
Did you know that the key to a longer, healthier life may be found in the strength of your legs? Recent studies show that leg strength is not only essential for mobility but also closely linked to life expectancy.
While we often focus on heart health and weight management, it turns out that building strong legs is equally important for our overall well-being.
Mobility and Independence: Strong legs are vital for maintaining your ability to move and live independently as you age. Whether it’s walking, climbing stairs, or simply rising from a chair, leg strength keeps you active and helps preserve your freedom.
Balance and Stability: Falls are a major concern for older adults, and strong legs help improve balance and stability, reducing the risk of injuries that could potentially impact your life expectancy.
Metabolic Health: As some of the largest muscles in the body, your legs play a big role in regulating metabolism, improving insulin sensitivity, and lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease
Increased Physical Activity: Stronger legs often mean more physical activity, which is linked to cardiovascular health and overall fitness both of which are key factors in living longer.
How to Get Started:
Strengthening your legs doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple exercises like squats, lunges, and leg presses can do wonders, and even daily activities like walking or cycling can make a big impact. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week, paired with strength training at least twice a week.
At ParkFit, we have all the tools and guidance you need to help you on your fitness journey. Our expert trainers are here to help you get started, whether you’re just beginning or looking to push your limits.
We look forward to seeing you at ParkFit for your next workout!
