DISTRICT MANAGER’S MESSAGE

I find no hint of fall on these early days of September, but change is coming. Leaves will realize that summer is passing, and they will relent from green to yellow, orange, and red, and then slip away. You can also mark fall with the arrival of the Paradise Recreation and Park District’s Activity Guide and sign up for an undeniably fall activity- no matter what the temperature is. Registration is available for a bunch of youth sports: cross country, flag football skills, basketball, and Elk’s Hoop Shoot.

I want to talk about fall falling leaves, football, ice rink opening, but as I’m writing this, today will hit 111 degrees. Some things seem way to early, the giant snowman display at Costco seemed a little lost, especially when the parking lot temperature was 106 degrees.

We are also trying out some new things, to build community and offer some toddler friendly activities check out our new Mothers on the Ridge program; find the right place for that fall planting with the landscape solutions class. Before the basketball court becomes an ice rink at the end of November, play pickup Pickleball on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with up to 30 people kicking off their day with some friendly competition. We’ve embraced events on the ridge with a Fall Family Fun Festival at the Magalia Community Park, Bags and Beans (Cornhole and Chile Cookoff!), astronomy at the lake, a Pinewood Derby and Car Show, and many other fun events.

Dan Efseaff, District Manager

Fall 2022 Kicks off

The Ice Rink will have a shortened but jam-packed season, stop by, skate or not, say hi, enjoy a hot chocolate and help nurture the community. We will host the Community Tree Lighting (and Santa’s Arrival!) on December 3rd Kicking off in 2023 will be a variety of transformational changes to our parks with new funding and projects in the design phase for Lakeridge (Magalia), Oak Creek, and Bille Park. Somehow that Giant Snowman will find his way up to Paradise and feel more at home with our Winter Wonderland. I can hardly wait!

Drop by the new Leah Lokan Little Free Library next to the restrooms at the Covered Bridge. The Free Library is a replica of the Covered Bridge built by canyon resident Dave Wilson and Donated by Dave, his wife Julia Westlund, and her brother and sister in law, Lain and Yvonne Westlund. It is named for our late canyon friend, Leah Lokan. Come by and “check out” a book while appreciating the intricate woodwork that Dave performed on the Bridge replica.
