DISTRICT MANAGER’S MESSAGE

Fall 2024 Brings New Adventures!

Dear Paradise Community,

Often, I write these messages as if they are in a miniature time capsule opened up a few months later. Last year, I mentioned the opening of the pool and the summer session, as I shoveled snow in the morning.

As I write this message, it’s a blue-sky day and though the temperature is in the mid-90s, I imagine that as you read this, the cooler temperatures of fall will be with us.

The blue-sky day out my window doesn’t reflect the smoke and unease that permeated our region with the Park Fire. Though the fire has moved deeper into the mountains, I can still see the column of smoke to the northeast in the afternoon.

As we reflect on the challenges our community has faced, particularly with the recent Park Fire, I am reminded of the strength, resilience, and unity that define us. The fire has touched many of us deeply, leaving scars on our land and re-opening ones in our hearts. Yet, in these moments of hardship, I have seen incredible acts of kindness, neighbor helping neighbor, and a collective determination to thrive once again.

In the spirit of fostering this connection and ensuring that no one in our community feels isolated, we are excited to introduce the Neighbor-to-Neighbor grant. This initiative is designed to combat loneliness and

encourage stronger community ties by supporting volunteer efforts, activities, and projects that bring people together. Whether it's hosting a small gathering, starting a neighborhood project, or simply reaching out to someone who may be feeling alone, this grant is here to empower you to make a difference.

Together, we can create a more connected, supportive, and resilient community. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to reach out, connect, and uplift those around you. Our community is not just about the spaces we share, but the bonds we build.

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making our District a special place to live, work, and play.

ICE RINK UPDATE

This year we’ll face the first without the ice rink, a signature Paradise and Ridge event that seemed like a longer tradition that it’s roughly decade long run. Over the past few years, the participation and sponsorship dropped off, from the effects of the Camp Fire and recovery, COVID, competition from other ice rinks, and just the loss of novelty.

Over the past few years, the District has grown some other events around the ice rink such as chili cookoff’s and holiday events. The District noticed that the energy and participation of these events often exceeded the participation that we had at the ice rink. These events now take center stage. And while we anticipate some growing pains mixed in with nostalgia, we are confident that our staff and partners will deliver new things to do in winter that provides a variety and greater participation from all members of the community.
