It was the 4th of a series of 5 day angle flying camps, which began at Skydive Sebastian in March of 2012. This last one has been the biggest one so far with over 100 participants, from more than 15 different countries, and 13 of the most recognized coaches in the discipline. The event was created with the idea of offering a training camp, not a boogie. Participants are expected to do 6 jumps per day for 5 days. Groups are organized by skill level with 8-9 flyers each, which stay mostly the same throughout the event, with every group getting a different coach each day. The format brings participants a different style of jumps, and ways to explain, which are characteristic to each of the coach’s flying style/personality. The event has proved to be a total success due to the progress experienced by its participants from beginning to end. Skydive Sebastian holds these angle camps every March and November. Due to the demand and popularity we started offering “warm-up camps” with smaller groups, in order to raise the skill level of flyers that can’t yet participate in the bigger camps, as well as for more experience flyers to try more advanced moves. E' stato il quarto della serie inaugurata nel Marzo 2012 a Skydive Sebastian, questo Camp di angle flying su 5 giorni. Quest'ultimo è stato il più grande fino ad oggi con oltre 100 partecipanti, provenienti da oltre 15 paesi diversi e 13 dei coach più conosciuti in questa disciplina. L'evento è stato creato con l'idea di offrire un camp di allenamento, non un boogie. I partecipanti devono effettuare 6 salti al giorno per tutti e 5 i giorni. I gruppi sono organizzati a seconda del livello con 8-9 partecipanti, e rimangono più o meno gli stessi per tutto l’evento, ogni gruppo ha un coach diverso ogni giorno, in questo modo si offre ai partecipanti la possibilità di avere diversi stili nei salti, diverso modo di spiegare, per le diverse caratteristiche di ciascun coach sia per lo stile di volo che per personalità. L'evento ha dimostrato di essere un successo totale per i progressi evidenziati dai suoi partecipanti.

Skydive Sebastian organizza questi angle camp ogni anno a Marzo e Novembre. A causa della sempre maggiore richiesta e popolarità abbiamo iniziato ad organizzare dei "warm- up camp" con piccoli gruppi, in modo da migliorare il livello dei partecipanti che non possono ancora partecipare nei campi più grandi, così come per i più esperti per provare movimenti più avanzati. Windoor Anniversary
November 22 – 24 was the 1st year anniversary for Windoor Realfly, the new wind tunnel beside Skydive Empuriabrava, Spain. For most skydivers in Europe, the placing of a wind tunnel in Empuriabrava is a match made in heaven. Empuriabrava now offers the complete package for skydivers, as well as a fantastic opportunity for first time flyers to experience the joy of flight. Unlike many tunnels, Windoor provides a fabulous sensory environment, with views of planes taking off and landing, skydivers under canopy with the beautiful Pyrenees in the background makes for a spectacular view. Combined with a great bar and restaurant, the tunnel provides a great environment not only to train but also for a great vacation. The building of a wind tunnel in Empuriabrava has also seen its' fair share of challenges. During the construction phase, the extremely high water level in Emuriabrava (think canals), combined with an unusually prolonged period of heavy rain, led to some major engineering, to prevent the whole project from sinking into the ground. Soon after opening, it became apparent that the management structure was not sufficiently experienced to cope with the large number of skydivers using the facility, and a new management team was brought in. Inevitably this created a delay in catching up with the needs of clients. One year down the line, many of the necessary changes have been implemented and many more are in the pipeline. So far, the door to the chamber has been reduced to ‌ the deflector plate has been reduced and the air inside the tunnel has been refined to create an even temperature. The overall effect has been to dramatically improve the flow of air inside the chamber. The video playback system and monitors have been upgraded for easier debriefing, and the improvement of the booking system as well as the creation of the proflyer department has improved the service for expereienced flyers. Whats' next for Windoor? The first major competition will take place 17 and 18th January: FS Open, FS Female, 2-way Dynamic and VFS. Later in the year, Windoor plans to host the 4 Way Dynamic circuit, dates to be announced. Lo scorso 22-24 Novembre si è festeggiato il 1° anniversario del Windoor Realfly, il nuovo Wind Tunnel accanto a Skydive Empuriabrava, Spagna. Per la maggior parte dei paracadutisti Europei, la collocazione di un tunnel a Empuriabrava è qualcosa di eccezionale. Empuriabrava può offrire ora ai paracadutisti un pacchetto completo, così come la fantastica opportunità per i first flyer di sperimentare la gioia del volo. A differenza di molti tunnel, Windoor offre una fantastica vista, sull’aeroporto con gli aerei che decollano ed atterrano, paracadutisti sotto le loro vele e le bellissime vette dei Pirenei sullo sfondo, uno scenario davvero spettacolare. Con i servizi del grande bar e ristorante, il tunnel offre un ambiente ideale non solo per allenarsi, ma anche per una bella vacanza. La costruzione di un wind tunnel in Empuriabrava è stata una bella sfida. Durante la fase dei lavori del cantiere il livello dell'acqua estremamente alto in Emuriabrava (si pensi canali), in combinazione con un periodo insolitamente prolungato di forti piogge, ha richiesto un importante lavoro di ingegneria, per evitare che l'intero progetto sprofondasse nel terreno. Subito dopo l'apertura ci si è resi conto che la struttura di gestione del tunnel non era ancora pronta a far fronte al gran numero di paracadutisti che chiedevano di utilizzare la struttura, quindi è stato creato un nuovo team di gestione. Questo ha inevitabilmente portato dei ritardi per potersi mettere al passo con le esigenze dei clienti. Un lungo anno, molte le modifiche necessarie che sono state realizzate e molte altre sono in cantiere. Per il momento la porta della camera di volo è stata ridotta, deflettore è stato ridotto e l'aria all'interno del tunnel viene trattata per creare una temperatura uniforme. L'effetto complessivo è stato quello di migliorare notevolmente il flusso d'aria all'interno del tunnel. Il sistema dei video e monitor sono stati aggiornati per facilitare i debriefing, è stato migliorato il sistema di prenotazione, così come la creazione del dipartimento proflyer dedicato al servizio per i flyer più esperti. Cosa vi aspetta a breve al Windoor? Il 17 e 18 Gennaio si svolgerà la prima grande gara per le discipline FS Open, FS Femminile, 2 -way Dynamic e VFS. Più avanti, nel corso dell'anno, Windoor prevede di ospitare una delle tappe del circuito di 4Way, le date verranno a breve rese note. Come sempre, Windoor sarà impegnato a migliorare ogni livello di servizio per i suoi clienti nel prossimo anno. Non vediamo l' ora di vedervi!

Wingsuit flyers Jari Kuosma and Shin Ito flew at Mount Fuji, Japan last 22 November 2013. Iconic Mt. Fuji, which is Japans highest mountain at 3776 meters and an active stratovolcano. The iconic mountain is a source of mystery and inspiration and truly one of the most scenic places to fly in the world. Three jumps were made from a helicopter flying at 12 500 feet and the flights will be shown in an upcoming Japanese TV documentary; “Jounetsutairiku” broadcasted by MBS. The documentary will feature Japanese skydiving icon Shin Ito who holds world records in wing suit flying and manufacturers BIRDMAN® wing suits. Jari Kuosma who is professional wing suit pilot and owner of BIRDMAN® captured Shin’s flights using 5 cameras mounted in his helmet. The documentary will be aired in Japan Dec. 1st. 2013, 11 PM at MBS. Finn Jari Kuosma founded BIRDMAN International ltd. and it was first company to introduce wingsuits for skydivers in 1999. Wingsuit-flying is the sport of flying the human body through air using a special winged suit. Despite the high levels of risk involved, the sport is growing in popularity, not least because it offers perhaps the purest form of flying humans can experience.

BIRDMAN in volo sul Monte Fuji.
I piloti di Wingsuit Jari Kuosma e Shin Ito hanno volato davanti al Monte Fuji, in Giappone lo scorso 22 Novembre. Il Monte Fuji è la montagna più alta e il simbolo del Giappone, con i suoi 3.776 metri ed è un vulcano attivo. Questa montagna è una fonte di mistero ed ispirazione, è veramente uno dei luoghi più suggestivi al mondo su cui volare. Sono stati effettuati tre lanci da un elicottero da una quota di 12.500 piedi (3.800 metri) e i lanci verranno mostrati in un prossimo documentario televisivo giapponese, dal titolo "Jounetsutairiku" che verrà trasmesso dalla MBS. Il documentario sarà incentrato sull’icona del paracadutismo Giapponese, Shin Ito che detiene dei record del mondo di volo con la tuta alare prodotta dalla BIRDMAN® insieme a Jari Kuosma che è pilota professionale di tuta alare e proprietario della BIRDMAN® I lanci di Shin sono stati ripresi da cinque telecamere montate sul suo casco. Il documentario andrà in onda in Giappone il prossimo 1° Dicembre alle ore 11:00 sulla MBS. Il Finlandese Jari Kuosma ha fondato la BIRDMAN International ltd. che è stata la prima azienda ad introdurre le wingsuit per i paracadutisti nel 1999. Nel volo con la Wingsuit si utilizza il corpo umano per volare attraverso l'aria utilizzando una speciale tuta alata. Nonostante la difficoltà aumenti il livello del rischio questa disciplina sta crescendo in popolarità, forse perché offre forse la forma più pura del volo gli esseri umani possono sperimentare.

Early on Sunday November 17,2013 at Perris Valley Skydiving in California, 97 talented skydivers boarded four planes for the day's first attempt to break the previous State Record 58-way set in 2010. Two days of foul weather cheated the team out of a 100-way completion and had increased the pressure to perform one flawless skydive on this last day of the event. World Champion freefly team Socal Converge's Travis Fienhage, Matt Lewis, and Andy Malchiodi along with David Gershfeld organized the six-day event. Beginning with 2 days of warm-ups starting November 12, record attempts starting November 14, and ending on November 17, a Sunday. Worldclass R.W. organizer Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld provided crucial R.W. big-way formation knowledge, experience, and support to the assembled team through out the attempts. A total of 112 Skydivers gathered from the United States in combination with participants from around the world representing Russia, France, Mexico, Australia, United Aran Emirates, and Reunion Island. DAY 1: On Thursday four 109-ways were attempted. "The talent was there, no question." said David Gershfeld. The organizers choose a "no-grip" dive for outer pods as their strategy for the first skydives. Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld explained the theory, "Taking away the urgency to dock let's everyone relax and gather the information they will need in order to dock. They find out what the exit picture will look like, what their approach will be, what the fall rate is, the traffic, and the break-off. After having all this information it's pretty easy to add the grips." Four Super Otters and a Sky-Van provided the airpower. Using plane based oxygen, the group exited from 16,500 for the first "no grip" skydives. The first pods built quickly, the outer pods and connector lines were slot flying, just hovering over their docks. Andy Malchiodi added, "It worked exactly as intended. People were relaxed and could get the information they needed before they were expected to do the job." Debriefing the video the team was applauded for flying quiet and being so tight in formation. With each successive skydive more skydivers were instructed to take grips. By the day's third and four skydives all flyers were instructed to take docks. While each skydive was clean and tight, no completion was accomplished. Landing from the last jump, the moral was high and a sense of a completed record skydive was only a day away. DAY 2 & DAY 3: Skydivers were greeted in the early morning with a dense cloud cover and cold temperatures as a storm front moved steadily in. Team members gathered in small groups to watch and debrief videos from the previous day of skydives. Checking weather forecasts, a chance for sunshine was predicted for the afternoon. The time on the ground turned into some fantastic team bonding. The chance to jump on Friday did not materialize and organizers released all participants for the day. Again on Saturday, weather held the anxious team on the ground. Organizers did not release the team until the late afternoon and the team stayed at the ready as small breaks in the clouds teased them with a chance to skydive. A chance to set the record did not come on Saturday and the team was again released. Despite the two days on weather hold, the hundred member team remained upbeat with the promise of a favorable weather forecast for Sunday. David Gershfeld observed the team moral, "Weather kept us down on the ground, but didn't get our spirits down." DAY 4: Sunshine greeted the team when they arrived at the DZ. It was finally jump day and moral was soaring. It was jump day. Unfortunately, Sunday began with a lot of the team departing early due to having already booked air travel back home, leaving less than 100 skydivers remained on the team.

With each attempt made, more of the team packed up their suitcases and headed to catch their commercial flights. The team first attempted a 97-way but was unsuccessful. Down to the wire, having been close to the 100-way but cheated out of a triple digit record, organizers hacked off twenty flyers, the entire outer pods from the record attempts. The participants who were asked to sit down were very talented and capable. "The worst part was having to make the hard decisions to sit people out to help ensure a record." During the next dirt-dive organizers told the team that a quick completion would bring the rest of the team back on for additional attempts. A sense of disappointment and frustration was palpable, as the team dirt-dived the smaller formation with the skydivers on the bench looking on. A 64-way was attempted, it did not complete. A second attempt was made, and to many of the participants it felt as if it didn't build. Organizers gathered the team in the conference room. The organizers stood quietly. Would the axe cut more of the team off the jump? Once everyone was seated, the outside video was played. At the moment before break-off the formation was built. A loud cheer overtook the room. The new state record was set, a 64-way. Asked about the record Dan B.C. replied, "I was really impressed by everyone's respect for safety, good discipline, and awesome attitude. It was so much fun." With still plenty of day light left, organizers rallied the team for chance to smash the record they just set. Skydivers who were put on the bench were brought back in to attempt an 80-way. The attempts were so close yet did not build. As the sun set over the dropzone, the team congratulated each other, gathered for team photos, and said their good byes, each person promising that the next time they assembled would be to set an even bigger record, a triple digit formation. In the twilight of evening Andy Malchiodi shook hands with his teammates and organizers, "Everyones true stoke on thursday was my favorite part, better than the record jump."

La mattina di Domenica 17 Novembre, a Perris Valley Skydiving in California, 97 paracadutisti talentuosi si sono imbarcati su quattro aerei per il primo tentativo della giornata per infrangere il precedente record dello Stato fissato a 58 elementi nel 2010. Due giorni di brutto tempo hanno impedito alla squadra di tentare una formazione a 100 elementi, hanno aumentato la pressione per riuscire a eseguire un lancio impeccabile nell’ultimo giorno dell’evento. I membri della squadra Campione del Mondo di freefly, i Socal Converge: Travis Fienhage, Matt Lewis e Andy Malchiodi insieme a David Gershfeld hanno organizzato l'evento su sei giorni. Si è cominciato con 2 giorni di warm-up dal 12 Novembre, mentre i tentativi di record a partire dal 14 Novembre e finire Domenica 17. L’organizzatore di RW di livello mondiale, Dan Brodsky - Chenfeld ha fornito le conoscenze e l’esperienza fondamentali delle grandi formazioni di RW, sostenendo la squadra messa insieme durante i vari tentativi. Un totale di 112 Paracadutisti accorsi dagli Stati Uniti insieme ai partecipanti provenienti da tutto il mondo in rappresentanza di Russia, Francia, Messico, Australia, Emirati Arabi e Réunion. A riprendere e documentare i lanci erano presenti video rinomati quali Iwan van der Schoor, Craig Obrien, Brian Buckland e Norman Kent. 1° Giorno: Giovedì sono stati effettuati 4 tentativi a 109 elementi. "Il talento c'era, senza dubbio." ha detto David Gershfeld. Gli organizzatori come strategia per i primi lanci scelgono un lancio "no- grip" per le pod esterne. Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld ne ha spiegato la filosofia: "togliere la fretta di fare la presa, cerchiamo di rilassarci e raccogliere le informazioni di cui avremo bisogno per poter fare la presa. Capiremo cosa vedramo in uscita, quale sarà l’approccio alla formazione, il rateo, la velocità del lancio, il traffico e il fine lavoro. Dopo aver raccolto tutte queste informazioni è abbastanza facile aggiungere una presa." Quattro Super Otter e uno SkyVan ci hanno portato in quota. Utilizzando l’ossigeno in aereo, il gruppo è uscito a 5.0o0 metri per i primi lanci "no grip". Le prime pod si sono costruite rapidamente, le pod esterne e linee di connessione hanno volato nei loro slot, poco più in alto delle loro prese. Andy Malchiodi ha aggiunto: "E’ andato tutto come previsto. La gente era rilassata e ha immagazinato le informazioni di cui aveva bisogno prima che gli fosse chiesto di fare il loro lavoro." Durante il video di debriefing il team è stato applaudito per il volo tranquillo e per la formazione così ravvicinata. Nei lanci successivi ad altri paracadutisti è stato chiesto di volare in presa.

Nel terzo e quarto lancio del giorno a tutti è stato chiesto di effettuare la presa. Anche se ogni lancio era pulito e ravvicinato, la formazione non è mai stata chiusa. All’atterraggio dell’ultimo salto, il morale era alto e vi era la sensazione che il record sarebbe stato completato il giorno seguente. 2° e 3° Giorno: i paracadutisti sono stati accolti la mattina presto da una densa copertura nuvolosa e basse temperature, come se fosse arrivato un fronte temporalesco. I membri del team si sono riuniti in piccoli gruppi per guardare e fare il debriefing dei video dei lanci del giorno precedente. Controllate le previsioni meteo, la possibilità di schiarite era stata prevista pe il pomeriggio. Il tempo trascorso a terra ha creato un bel legame in questa squadra fantastica. Non vi è stata la possibilità di saltare il Venerdì e gli organizzatori hanno lasciato liberi tutti i partecipanti. Anche al Sabato il meteo ha tenuto la squadra sempre più ansiosa a terra. Gli organizzatori hanno dato lo stand by fino al tardo pomeriggio e il gruppo si è fatto trovare sempre pronto con le schiarite tra le nuvole che davano l’illusione che ci fosse la possibilità di saltare. Non vi è stata nessuna possibilità di tentare il record il Sabato e la squadra è stata nuovamente lasciata libera. Nonostante i due giorni di attesa meteo, i cento membri del team sono rimasti ottimisti con la previsione di un meteo finalmente favorevole per la Domenica. David Gershfeld ha osservato il morale del team: "il meteo ci ha tenuto a terra , ma non è riuscito a tenere in basso anche il nostro spirito".

4° Giorno: il sole ha salutato la squadra all’arrivo in DZ. Era l’ultiomo giorno di salti e il morale era alle stelle. Era il giorno giusto. Purtroppo la Domenica è iniziata con tante persone in partenza, che avevano già prenotato il volo per tornare a casa, lasciando una squadra con meno di 100 paracadutisti. Ad ogni tentativo qualcuno della squadra preparava le valigie e andava a prendere il suo volo. La squadra ha anzitutto tentato una formazione a 97, ma senza successo. Andando avanti, pur essendoci avvicinati alla formazione a 100 ma sfumata la possibilità di un record con cifra tripla, gli organizzatori hanno tagliato fuori una ventina di partecipanti, un’intera pod esterna dai tentativi di record. I partecipanti lasciati in pachina erano molto talentuosi e capaci. "La parte peggiore è dover prendere delle decisioni difficili, togliere la gente dalla formazione per garantire un record." Durante i successivi briefing del lancio gli organizzatori hanno detto alla squadra che se avessimo chiuso la formazione velocemente il resto della squadra avrebbe perso parte agli ulteriori tentativi di record. Un senso di delusione e frustrazione è diventato palpabile, con la squadra più piccola a provare a terra e i paracadutisti in panchina a guardare. E’ stato fatto un tentativo con una formazione a 64, ma non è stata completata. E’ stato fatto un secondo tentativo, ma molti dei partecipanti sentivano che non si era chiusa. Gli organizzatori hanno riunito la squadra nella sala conferenze. Gli organizzatori erano tranquilli. Avrebbero tagliato la maggior parte della squadra fuori dai lanci? Una volta che tutti erano seduti, è stato proiettato un video esterno. Poco prima del fine lavoro la formazione è stata costruita. Un applauso forte ha riempito la stanza. Il nuovo record della California è stato fissato a 64 elementi. Domandando di questo record a Dan B.C. ha risposto: "Sono rimasto davvero impressionato dal rispetto di tutti per la sicurezza, una buona disciplina e un atteggiamento incredibile. E’ stato divertente." Con ancora tante ore di luce del giorno a disposizione gli organizzatori hanno radunato la squadra per tentare di infrangere il record appena chiuso. I paracadutisti in panchina sono stati richiamati per tentare una formazione a 80. Nel tentativo siamo andati davvero vicino ma non l’abbiamo chiusa. Al sunset nella DZ i membri del team si sono congratulati l’un l'altro, si sono riuniti per la foto di rito e per salutarsi, promettendosi che la prossima volta si sarebbero ritrovati per tentare un record ancora più grande, una formazione a tre cifre. JUMP FOR THE ROSE

A very special group of ladies recently organized a very pink 3-day skydive and community action event, Jump For the Rose (JFTR). It took place in the US at Skydive Spaceland in Texas. The event, now in its 4th year, was created by Marian Sparks – a breast cancer survivor. It was designed as a way to give back to the community. In 2009 Marian had a challenging year. She found herself divorced, without insurance and just diagnosed with breast cancer. By luck she was steered to an organization in Houston, TX, called The Rose. All her medical needs were taken care of with expertise, grace and without any cost. She told her doctor, she would find a way to repay the groups’ kindness. In 2010, she founded the non-profit organization, Jump for the Rose (JFTR). When Marian handed Dr. Dixie Melillo, also the Medical Director and Co-Founder of The Rose,a check after her first skydiving fundraiser, the good doctor was floored. She had never expected Marian to follow through with that promise. “Dr. Dixie,” now makes the annual trek out to Spaceland to participate in the weekends’ activities and talk to the participants. Because of her tireless activism, Marian’s name was submitted to the Susan G. Komen foundation to be one of their “survivor” representatives. Her beautiful face has now been featured in countless commercials and print ads. She has found her calling! Each year JFTR has a different theme. This year it was designed as a mini-boogie with a variety of fun dives – head down, sit, belly and wing suit. Diane Chamberlain, Scott Elmer and Chuck Akers organized several high intensity, multiple point 12 to 15-way dives. Michael Swearingen put together cool wingsuit dives. USPA North Central Region Director and National Freestyle Champion, Merriah Eakins flew in to orchestrate freefly dives and as a delegate of the Pink Mafia, she organized a Barbie dive, during which the four Barbies and their jumper/handlers did the “hokey pokey” square dance from 13,000’, (Wardrobe mishaps well documented by aerial cinematographer, Norman Kent.) Several jumps were also made with teddy bears that would later be donated to children undergoing cancer treatment – a “brave bear” for a brave patient. A big part of this year’s theme was “inclusivity.” No girl left behind. In one of my favorite jumps of the weekend, we invited novice jumper Nicole, who had only 28 jumps, to join us on a 15-way multiple
point dive. Putting her in the base between highly capable formation veterans, she became the central focus of the group. We formed a beautiful formation and everyone got to see her grin from ear to ear. She was still grinning as the weekend wound to a close with some persistent rain showers. It was a thrilling reward for all to help a new jumper achieve a milestone and join the fold! A women’s Vertical Formation Skydiving 4-way Head-Up state record was set – participants were: Merriah Eakins, Robin Williams, Nicole Black and Alex Neale. USPA Judges Christy Hitchens and Randy Connell were on hand to certify the new Texas state record. At the center of the hangar, coordinating and emceeing the event, the core volunteers of JFTR set up a silent auction and raffle – featuring an amazing skydiving t-shirt quilt, skydiving gear, flat-screen TV and about 85 other items. Several vendors of everything from genuine American Indian medicine bags to purses with changeable covers donated proceeds to the JFTR as well. (As of press time over $10,000 had been raised.) During the afternoon weather holds, two major indoor attractions were held. The multiple award winning film, Pink Skies, which I produced and directed was screened followed by Q&A and a breakout session on breast cancer prevention for the participants. World renown aerial cinematographers, Norman Kent, gave a talk on several of his most noted projects including the recent HTC commercial. He also showed clips of his amazing skydive sequence in the film Get Smart and his awe inspiring aerial work with a falcon. Norman was also on hand all weekend to cover all the aerial action – in an artistic way that belies his perfectionist eye. Head videographer, Matt Sandt, provided additional camera for JFTR. Everyone gifted and contributed their talents, time and energy to make this heartfelt event a success. In closing, JFTR founder, Marian Sparks remarked, “I had been a survivor all of my life, but recently, I had found something that truly made me feel alive. I had found my family, a place that I belonged and my true love. That is what skydiving is for me. This cancer threat is never going to take that away!"

Un gruppo molto speciale di signore ha recentemente organizzato una 3 giorni di paracadutismo in rosa e un evento di solidarietà, Jump For The Rose (JFTR), si è svolto negli Stati Uniti a Skydive Spaceland in Texas. L'evento, giunto alla sua 4° edizione, è stato creato da Sparks Marian - sopravvissuta al cancro al seno. E' stato pensato come un modo per raccogliere fondi. Nel 2009 Marian ha avuto un anno difficile: affrontò un divorzio, era senza assicurazione medica e gli era appena stato diagnosticato un cancro al seno. Per fortuna era a capo di un’organizzazione a Houston, Texas, chiamata The Rose. Tutte le sue esigenze mediche sono state assolte con competenza, grazia e senza alcun costo. Ha detto al suo medico, che avrebbe trovato un modo per ripagare la gentilezza del gruppo. Nel 2010, ha fondato l'organizzazione non-profit, Jump For The Rose (JFTR). Sono stati fatti alcuni salti anche con degli orsacchiotti (Teddy Bears) che in seguito sono stati donati ai bambini sottoposti a trattamento del cancro - un "orso coraggioso" per un paziente coraggioso. Una grande parte del tema di quest'anno era "inclusività". Nessuna ragazza viene lasciata indietro. In uno dei miei salti preferiti della settimana, abbiamo invitato una neo paracadutista Nicole, che aveva solo 28 salti, ad unirsi a noi in un salto a 15 elementi di più punti. formazione e tutti sono riusciti a vedere il suo sorriso da orecchio a orecchio. Stava ancora sorridendo anche se il fine settimana si stava chiudendo con persistenti rovesci di pioggia. E' stato un premio emozionante per tutti aiutare una nuova paracadutista a raggiungere un traguardo e unirsi al gruppo! È stato fissato il record dello stato per una formazione verticale in Head-Up (seduti) a 4 elementi, le partecipanti erano: Merriah Eakins, Robin Williams, Nicole Black e Alex Neale. I giudici USPA Christy Hitchens e Randy Connell hanno certificato il nuovo record dello stato del Texas. Al centro dell’hangar, zona di coordinamento dell'evento, i volontari fondamentali di JFTR hanno istituito un'asta silenziosa e una lotteria - con incredibile premi di paracadutismo t-shirt, materiali di paracadutismo, TV a schermo piatto e circa 85 altri oggetti. Diversi venditori di tutto, dalle vere e propre medicine degli indiani d'America a borse con cover intercambiabili e che hanno devoluto i proventi al JFTR (al momento dell’articolo oltre $ 10.000 sono stati raccolti). Durante il pomeriggio con il brutto tempo, si sono tenute due importanti attrazioni indoor. E’ stato proiettato il premiato video aereo, Pink Skies, che ho prodotto e diretto, seguito da Q & A e una sessione di breakout sulla prevenzione del cancro al seno per le partecipanti. Il video di fama mondiale per la fotografia aerea, Norman Kent, ha tenuto un discorso su alcuni dei suoi progetti più noti, tra cui la recente pubblicità HTC. Ha anche mostrato le clip delle sue incredibili sequenze di lancio nel film Get Smart e l’emozionante lavoro aereo con un falco. Norman è stato a disposizone per tutto il weekendper riprendere tutta l'azione aerea, in modo artistico che smentisce il suo occhio perfezionista. In chiusura, la fondatrice del JFTR, Sparks Marian ha detto: "Sono stata una sopravvissuta in tutta la mia vita, ma di recente ho trovato qualcosa che mi ha fatto sentire viva veramente. Ho trovato la mia famiglia, un luogo che mi appartiene e il mio vero amore. Questo è ciò che il paracadutismo è per me. La minaccia del cancro non me l’ha mai portata via!"

Nuova Opzione per la CYPRES2 Dallo scorso Gennaio la CYPRES2 ha una nuova funzione. Regolare la quota di attivazione per un salto di manifestazione con una quota differente è molto facile da impostare sulle CYPRES da 22 anni. Ora, è disponibile un'interessante novità relativa all'impostazione della quota di attivazione: l’utente adesso può in modo permanente aumentare i 225 metri della quota di attivazione con incrementi di più di 30 metri, 60 metri, fino a oltre 270 metri. Così si è liberi di scegliere a secon da delle proprie esigenze. Per evitare impostazioni non intenzionali la quota deve essere impostata per 2 volte consecutivamente. Il cambiamento sarà allora impostato permanente fino alla successiva, nuova impostazione. Questa procedura richiede circa 2 minuti per essere eseguita. Il risultato di una maggiore quota di attivazione è che la distanza verticale, rispetto alla finestra di attivazione, dove la CYPRES è pronta a sparare la taglierina, viene allargata. La finestra standard di attivazione va dai 40 metri fino ai 225 metri. Ad ogni aumento della quota standard di 225 metri alla finestra devono essere aggiunti i metri in più. Un paracadutista che aumenta la quota di attivazione della sua CYPRES deve aumentare anche la quota di apertura della sua vela principale per evitare la possibilità di avere due vele aperte. Dato che le due vele potrebbero impigliarsi e provocare un incidente, il principale deve essere sempre completamente aperto e pilotabile molto al di sopra della quota di attivazione della riserva. • Naturalmente la CYPRES consente allo stesso tempo l'adeguamento a un'altra quota e la nuova quota di attivazione permanente, se è necessario. • Naturalmente, ogni unità CYPRES2 a cui viene effettuata la manutenzione, questa nuova funzionalità verrà settata automaticamente senza supplemento di prezzo. Questa è già la normale procedura dal 1° Gennaio 2013. • C'è anche la possibilità di avere l’aggiornato immediato, ma non gratuitamente. Per il continuo sviluppo di questo sport si discute spesso delle quote di attivazione. Per esempio l’USPA (Associazione Statunitense) ha deciso, nel mese di Luglio, di aumentare la quota minima di apertura della vela principale per i titolari della Licenza C e D da 600 metri a 760 metri. Questa è una decisione molto intelligente e molto apprezzata dalla Airtec perchè è volta a rendere il paracadutismo sportivo più sicuro. La nuova funzione consente a ogni paracadutista di aumentare la sua quota di attivazione, se ne sente la necessità in relazione al suo equipaggiamento, alle sue abitudini, alle sue azioni ecc. La modifica è facile da impostare, è reversibile, può essere eseguita in qualsiasi momento e ovunque. Vi preghiamo di prestare attenzione ed essere sicuri di aver preso in conside razione tutte le circostanze connesse, vantaggi e svantaggi quando si sceglie la funzione dell’attivazione a una diversa quota.
