Liana Carbone’s focus on creativity and community In the summer of 2016, Liana Carbone took a trip to Italy that changed her life. The then 25-year-old and her husband decided to visit il bel paese in an effort to reconnect with their Italian origins. “Anthony and I are both ItalianCanadian and we wanted to experience our roots together for the first time,” explains Carbone. “What Italy reflected back to me is the incredible creative and cultured heritage I am a part of.” Carbone took her Nikon D7000 digital camera along with her on the trip. She says she spent much of her vacation photographing the people and places she encountered along the way from Venice to Rome. She would edit her photos on the train rides between cities, posting them to her social media feeds and emailing them to friends and family. “Walking around with my camera, I really felt like it was an extension of my soul,” says the 27-year-old. “Having my camera allowed me to notice the beauty of the country on a way deeper level. I noticed the paint peeling off the walls in Venice, all the little details in peoples’ faces and on everyday objects.”

Nell’estate del 2016, Liana Carbone ha fatto un viaggio in Italia che le ha cambiato la vita. L’allora venticinquenne e il marito avevano deciso di visitare il bel paese con l’obiettivo di riconnettersi alle proprie origini italiane. “Anthony ed io siamo entrambi italiani e volevamo esplorare le nostre radici insieme e per la prima volta,” spiega. “Ciò che l’Italia mi ha trasmesso è l’incredibile patrimonio culturale e creativo di cui faccio parte.” Carbone ha portato in viaggio con sé la sua macchina digitale Nikon D7000. Dice di aver trascorso gran parte della sua vacanza a fotografare le persone e i luoghi incontrati lungo il tragitto da Venezia a Roma. Revisionava le foto durante i percorsi in treno tra le varie città, postandole sui feed dei social media ed inviandole via e-mail ad amici e parenti.“Andare a spasso con la mia macchina fotografica, me la faceva davvero percepire come fosse un prolungamento della mia anima,” afferma la ventisettenne. “Avere con me la fotocamera mi consentiva di cogliere più a fondo la bellezza del Paese. Notavo i muri scorticati di Venezia, tutti i piccoli dettagli nelle facce delle persone e negli oggetti quotidiani.”
