Drivers are the lifeblood of our business, and we have implemented a mentorship and apprenticeship program aimed at driver development, retention and wellbeing of drivers. At the same time, we are developing relationships with CDL schools, technical schools and educational groups to educate people on the benefits and opportunities in driving careers. Participating in community and school events, plant open houses and informational events are ways that we are engaging the younger generations to help fill the void that will be left by the retiring boomers.
Intentional efforts are underway to transfer the knowledge and experience of the older generation to the younger generations through mentorship. To attract new coworkers who will thrive in the Ozinga culture and will want to have a positive impact on others, social media is being used to target specific audiences and engage with interested individuals.

During a recent IOUE Local 150 strike in Illinois, our Naperville yard was closed due to material shortages. Mike Bohac, Plant Operator at Naperville, decided to use this time to start painting the buildings at the yard to give them a fresh look. He started with the smaller buildings over the pits and continued to paint the yard in sections in the event the strike would end before the job could be completed.
