Parker McCollum

Texas’ Gold Chain Cowboy

In the vast expanse of the Lone Star state, echoes of love, heartbreak, dusty highways, and a mother’s devotion blend with the soulful twang of Parker McCollum’s music. Whether heard gazing at the star-studded sky or immersed in the neon aura of a music venue, McCollum’s melodies resonate deeply, evoking emotions of longing and hope. Despite being a “Hollywood Gold” rising star, McCollum remains authentic to himself and his roots. His authenticity shows through in his current nationwide tour, captivating audiences with his compelling voice.

McCollum’s roots in Conroe, Texas, played a significant role in shaping his music journey. From a young age, he was fascinated with a love for music, sharing, “[I] always loved country songs. I was really, really obsessed with big country hit melodies when I was a kid. My older brother, Tyler, wrote songs from a young age and really inspired and encouraged me to write songs, sing, and play guitar.” However, McCollum’s musical palette became even richer and more diverse, embracing a range of genres, including blues, roots rock, soul, folk rock, and, of course, country. He was deeply influenced by the impactful tunes of classic artists such as Ryan Bingham, Ryan Adams, Townes Van Zandt, John Mayer, and Willie Nelson. Among the pantheon of his revered artists, George Strait held a special place in McCollum’s heart, and has won the spot as his ultimate favorite.

Throughout his life, McCollum learned to play many instruments, starting with the violin in grade school and later the guitar and harmonica. By age 13, he was already showcasing his talent at open mic nights in Spring, Texas. While still in high school, his determination led to his first professional gig in Giddings, Texas.

In his early twenties, McCollum embarked on his inaugural tour with the band, Six Market Blvd. During this time, he also released his first single, “Highway,” which laid the foundation for his future musical accomplishments.

McCollum faced his fair share of challenges despite his eventual rise to fame. However, his unwavering passion and perseverance kept him true to his aspirations to succeed in the music world. Reflecting on challenges during his journey, McCollum confessed, “I think one of the biggest ones I’ve faced is admitting my goals and saying out loud what I truly want to do in life and the aspirations and ambitions that I have. I’ve always had trouble actually admitting what I wanted to do

because I was always afraid to fail. I’ve overcome that now by just kind of sucking it up and cowboying up and chasing [my dreams] anyways, always being my authentic and true self.” McCollum has turned a challenge into a strength. McCollum’s authenticity is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of his success, as his heartfelt narratives resonate with truth and passion, striking a chord with his beloved fans.

Challenges McCollum encountered were often accompanied by moments of laughter and excitement. McCollum recounts having “Countless funny moments from my life on the road. I remember one time at the Houston Rodeo I slipped down to a knee for my first time ever playing at the Houston Rodeo. I didn’t actually fall, but it came close. It’s the only time I’ve come close in my career and it just so happened to be on the biggest stage on the biggest night of my career, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s a great memory.”

Over the years, McCollum’s drive to accomplish his dreams has led to great success. McCollum recently, in 2023, fulfilled his dream of performing at Austin City Limits. He has also garnered numerous musical accolades and nominations, with many more on the horizon. McCollum has earned 4 Gold (2023) and 4 Platinum (2023-2024) RIAA Awards (“Pretty Heart” is 3x Platinum), has won the ACM Award (2022) for New Male Artist of the Year, the CMT Music Award (2022) for “Breakthrough Video of the Year,” and two back-toback CMA Award Nominations (2022 and 2023) for New Artist of the Year.

One dream that holds a special place in his heart is his marriage to Hallie Ray. McCollum eagerly shared their good news, “Hallie Ray and I are about to have our first child, a

little baby boy. Really looking forward to that and raising him right with good manners and a great work ethic.”

McCollum also helps others fulfill their dreams. He recently gave back to emerging songwriters by performing this spring at the 2024 Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame Weekend, Darrel K Royal Pickin’ Party VIP-Sponsor Event. This annual event showcases past and present songwriters who have played a key role in shaping Texas’ distinctive cultural identity. Songwriting can be a challenging profession, often without the recognition it deserves. McCollum encourages fellow songwriters and aspiring dreamers: “I would just say be yourself. Be your absolute true and authentic self always, and don’t apologize for who you are. Wear your heart on your sleeve; the number one thing, above all else, is just to outwork everybody. You have to have a terrific work ethic if you want to make it in this business. That’s number one.”

Our “Gold Chain Cowboy” is his own kind of “Hollywood Gold.” McCollum embodies a unique blend of authenticity and glamor. Unafraid to express his innermost thoughts, he hopes to inspire others through his music. Delving into the meaning behind his 1st major label debut album’s title, “Gold Chain Cowboy,” McCollum explains that it represents his artistic aspirations and the influences that have shaped his journey. True to his nature, he is drawn to genuine honesty, and the nickname “Gold Chain Cowboy” reflects his dedication and free-spirited approach to life.

McCollum ventures fearlessly into the future, where his ambitions and dreams stretch as far and wide as the Texas plains, unhindered by any obstacles and ready to change the world in his iconic way for the better!

We had a couple of armadillos come visit us the other day. I'd never seen one running around on my land before and when I told the Mrs I was surprised to discover she'd never seen a live one either. She usually just sees them...sleeping....on the side of the road. Well, I did a little bit of research into these armadillos, and it turns out that I discovered something that I enjoy very much.

Fascinating Facts About A TEXAS CRITTER INTERESTING FACTS!

So strap in, I have some interesting facts about this Texas critter. For example, there are 21 species of armadillo, but there is only one in North America and that’s the same species you’ll find here in Texas – the nine banded armadillo, so named because of the folds of their armor. But to be honest, that can vary between seven to ten folds. But for some reason, someone counted nine one day, and BOOM there we go, ‘nine banded armadillo.’

Armadillo in Spanish translates to "little armored one", but I think we should all start using the Aztec name for armadillos ‘ayotochtli’ which translates to "turtle rabbit", which seems really weird until you start picturing the armadillo, and then you realize those Aztecs were on to something.

But there are more interesting facts! For example, the nine banded armadillo is the only vertebrate on the planet that when it gives birth, it always gives birth to identical quadruplets. Every single time. But science has no real idea as to why.

From an evolutionary standpoint, mammals have a lot of variety when it comes to them giving birth. And the reason for this is that with greater variety, there's great chance that your offspring is going to survive in an ever challenging and changing world. But armadillos it seems are just , "naaah, I'm good. Just give me four of the same, please. That's great. Thank you very much!"

Why Agricultural Lenders Are A Smart Choice for Rural Land Buyers

Choosing the right lender can make all the difference when purchasing ranch land, farms, or rural properties. Agricultural lenders offer unique advantages that go beyond traditional financing. Here’s what you and your family should know about working with them.

Local Expertise and Personalized Service

Unlike many large financial institutions, agricultural lenders originate almost all their loans locally. This means your loan is unlikely to be sold off on the secondary market, giving you a consistent point of contact throughout the life of your loan.

They also specialize in rural and agricultural properties, so they understand key issues like easements, mineral leases, and land access. These details can affect legal processes, titles, and even property values. “If a lender isn’t comfortable with those things, they may not be as helpful to farm and ranch borrowers,” says Phil Peabody, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer at Capital Farm Credit.

Building Relationships that Matter

Agricultural lenders take a relationship-driven approach. Since they’re often investing their own money, they take the time to get to know their borrowers and understand their needs. This responsive, personalized service is one of the reasons rural property buyers find working with ag lenders so productive.

These professionals also often specialize in specific areas like cattle ranching or dairy farming, making them uniquely qualified to support clients whose livelihoods depend on their land.

Flexible Payment Options

Agriculture doesn’t follow a monthly paycheck schedule, and ag lenders understand that. Whether selling livestock or harvesting crops, they’ll work with you to set up a payment structure that aligns with your business. Options can include monthly, quarterly, semiannual, or even annual payment schedules—offering flexibility that traditional lenders can’t always provide.

Support for Your Long-Term Goals

Ag lenders are also more likely to support investment projects that add value to your land. Whether you’re looking to build a barn, buy new equipment, install irrigation, or harvest timber, they understand these projects are part of building a successful operation. This flexibility can include restructuring loans or rearranging payments to fit your plans.

Choosing the Right Lender

When deciding on a lender, look for one with a strong local presence and a deep understanding of rural and agricultural industries. “Rural land has a lot of nuances,” Peabody says. “Land ownership can sometimes be unpredictable.”

If you’re considering purchasing rural property, having the right lender on your side is essential. As real estate professionals focused on helping clients find their dream ranch or farm, we’re happy to connect you with trusted agricultural lenders who can make the financing process smoother and more tailored to your needs.

We’re thrilled to introduce a special part of our journey: The Greene Room, named in honor of the Greene family, who have been part of this community since 1882. This space will celebrate stories both old and new, reflecting our love for music, food, entertainment, and this incredible community.

The lot was originally sold by H.M. Homsley to P.C. Mitchell for $200 in December of 1871. Then from Mitchell and his wife to J.W. Smith in May of 1872 for $900. Then from the Smith Estate in June of 1872 to A Mr. Burns for $19.50 deliquent taxes. Then from Burns to R.D. Smith, a relative, and from Smith to J.W. Greene in February of 1882. Mr. Green took two notes from a Mr. Blum and a Mr. Lindsey for a total of $7000 for construction of the present building. The building next went to Dora Greene in September of 1944. Then to her son, Cyril Greene, and then to his daughter, Kathleen Marshall. Kathleen Marshall sold the building to John Huett in February of 1977. The building was owned by the Green family from 1882 until 1977. Early businesses located here were Carnes/Wilson Saloon in 1874, that John Wesley Hardin entered before heading up the street to the east where the Jack WRight Saloon was located and his shooting of Brown County Deputy John Webb, Chilton Bros, and Cunningham Dry-Goods in the early 1900s. a grocery store during the 1940s and 50s owned by Mr. Thate, a Western Auto store in teh 1960s and 70s owned by Walter Niemann, and the Service Drug from 1977 until February of 2006 when it closed after 75 years in business.

Our mission is to restore this beautiful corner of the historic square, blending its rich past with an exciting future. The transformation is already shaping up to be something truly special, and we can't wait to reveal the surprises we have in store.

Maintaining a balance between net worth and income will need to be adapted throughout your lifetime – learning strategies to manage the two can help. There are a multitude of acronyms used to describe households and financial status. You may have heard of KIPPERS (Kids In Parents Pockets Eroding Retirement Savings), MUPPIE (Middle-aged Upcoming Prosperous Professional) or RINKs (Retired Income No Kids). But has HENRY made it onto your radar? And might it apply to you, or your younger loved ones?

HENRY stands for High Earner, Not Rich Yet. You may be someone who pursued higher education and makes a salary commensurate with the investment you put in – but on the flip side, you’re saddled with student loans, pay high taxes, have a hefty mortgage and are up against high living expenses. Maybe you’re a doctor, lawyer, psychologist, educator or other professional with little savings or investments, making you feel like generational wealth might be a far-away destination. It can vary a bit If you’re looking for the strict definition of a HENRY. Some cite HENRYs’ earnings between $100,000 and $500,000. But salary is relative because costs vary significantly depending on where you live. Being in the HENRY category means you might need a strategic plan to make long-term progress if your income is tied up in expenses and loan payoffs. Plus, the loss of your job could be a financial catastrophe; locking yourself into expenses that track with your current income, but not your overall wealth, can also be a problem.

Some simple but effective strategies can allow you to build long-term wealth while addressing your immediate needs like debt repayment and living expenses. Consider two moves that could free up more cash to invest in other assets. First, reduce your current tax bill by contributing the maximum to your employer-sponsored pretax 401(k), and consider other tax-advantaged savings vehicles like traditional IRAs and HSAs that can further reduce your current tax burden. Second, consider your location. For some, where you live is intrinsic to your current position – but for others, if you have the option for hybrid work or working from home, consider moving to a less expensive geographic area. A thorough look at day-to-day fixed and flexible expenses is also necessary to free up more cash to invest. You may have some “lifestyle creep” in the form of leisure, entertainment and other flexible expenses that may seem like necessities but, upon closer inspection, wouldn’t leave you in a dire situation if they were reduced. Debt is another area where HENRYs should be mindful. School, auto or personal loans – and credit card debt – are often the primary areas where you can make changes. In addition, consider asking for an interest reduction from your credit card companies if you’ve been an on-time payer with a long and consistent track record. All this requires is a “goodwill letter” to your credit card company – a sample of which can be found easily online.

The high net worth but low-income camp

Those with high net worth but low income are on the opposite end of the spectrum. Some who fall into this category are business owners whose wealth is tied up in their businesses; others may be early retirees who’ve built up a meaningful investment portfolio and own paid-off properties, but no longer receive a steady income from a paycheck. They’re asset rich, but the major issue is the low amount of available reliable income.

The lack of liquidity comes with risks. This can cause problems in a volatile market, or when there are unexpected higher taxes from selling investments or liquidating portfolio assets, for example, or other unforeseen expenses.

INSTRUCTIONS:

For more information contact Kailee Anderson, BSN, RN, OFNC, Certified Glute Specialist instagram: @kaileeuniquefit email: kaileeandersoncoaching@gmail.com cell: 660-238-8196

Add the sliced and chopped chicken to a large mixing bowl and top with 3 Tbsp. cajun seasoning. Mix to ensure all sides are coated with the seasoning.

In a deep skillet or dutch oven with high sides, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken slices and cook until golden brown and cooked through, approximately 5 minutes. Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside.

Add the peppers, broccoli, onion and garlic to the same skillet and sauté until softened.

Pour the half and half and chicken broth in with the vegetables. If you want mild (still spicy as this is a cajun dish) add 1 tsp. of cajun seasoning to the mixture along with salt and pepper. If you want spicy, add 2 tsp. of cajun seasoning and stir to combine.

Break the spaghetti noodles in half and add to the pot in a criss cross pattern. This helps them cook through and not stick together in the pot. Press the noodles down so they’re submerged in the liquid to cook.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until the pasta is cooked to your liking, stirring often.

Once the noodles have softened, add the spiralized zucchini and mix to combine.

Once the pasta is cooked and zucchini is soft, add the cheese to the pot and mix to melt and combine. Let simmer for 3-5 minutes.

Add the cooked chicken back into the pot and stir into the pasta. Simmer for 3-5 minutes to allow the chicken to heat through and the flavors to melt together while the sauce thickens. Taste and adjust seasonings, if needed.

Comanche, Texas: Where Tastemakers Unite…

Imagine a place where the vast skies of central Texas meet the rolling hills of the hill country, and nestled in this picturesque landscape is the charming town of Comanche. With a population of 4,300, this historic town on the Old Corn Trail is a treasure trove of history, pioneering spirit, agriculture, and innovation. And now, amid a cultural revitalization, it's a destination you won't want to miss.

In Comanche, you will find a burgeoning food and beverage scene of the next generation of Tastemakers. On the square, a courthouse renovation is in the making, and a new generation of entrepreneurs is breathing life back into various buildings.

One location that stands out is the Lot 1 Block 1 Historic Restoration project. This project is housed in the First National Bank of Co-

Lmanche building, a structure that dates back to 1891. The building is not just a relic of the past, but a living testament to history, having been the site of the iconic 1874 gunfight between John Wesley Hardin and Charles Webb. This incident has inspired the works of artists like Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton, and even a movie featuring Rock Hudson.

The Victorian building has a rich and diverse history, having served as home to the local Telephone Company, Racquet Store, Surgeon's Office, Boarding House, Federal Land Bank, Coffee Shop, Dry Cleaners, Jewelers, and numerous boutiques. This adaptability is a testament to the building's enduring charm and its potential for the future.

ocal couple, Travis and Rebecca Conley, saw the potential in the property and were determined to bring out its original charm. They acquired the property in 2021, just weeks before a detrimental winter storm hit Texas, but their determination remained unshaken. Since then, they have been working on renovating and restoring the ground story of this 10,000-square-foot gem.

With the skill and confidence of friends and business partners Meredith and Dustin Barker of Bravo 5 Construction, the first renovation on Lot 1 Block 1 began in December 2022 with a gut renovation of a 2,500-square-foot space where the Conleys

planned to open their winery tasting room, the J.W. Hardin Wine Company. The space had good bones boasting original doors, 17-foot ceilings, a beautiful long-leaf pine storefront under many coats of paint, and the selling point of the building: the original queen anne stained glass windows, which had been painted over for decades. The stained glass restoration was tedious, but it is a focal point of the space today. The wine company opened on April 1st of 2023 and features locally grown boutique Texas wines in an elegant contemporary Western setting. The finished design yielded floor-to-ceiling black walls, wood floors, tin-type outlaw portraits, a massive oil on canvas mural by artist Ruth

Munroe Augar, a wooden wrap-around bar, and a large custom chandelier with vintage-inspired glass.

JW Hardin Wine Co. is a patently Texan company, established to serve as your personal partner, a trusted source to turn to as you discover personalized collections of the finest wines Texas has to offer. The Conley Family owns and operates a local vineyard and farms an additional production vineyard in Comanche County. Their wines are Storied and Steeped in History and work to connect their patrons culturally through boutique wines paired with stories of the Texas Frontier, Wild West, and Legends and Lores of Texas.

In May 2023, the stars aligned, and the second phase of the renovations was inspired by the chance meeting of two fellow would-be tastemakers, Colten Jones and Kody Pruitt. They were looking for a home for their project: a craft brewery, Baby Cow Brewing. The adjoining space, the original lobby of the First National Bank, also boasted a magnificent storefront, original wainscoting, and Queen Anne stained glass windows, but it was going to be a much larger renovation given a sagging plaster ceiling and an extensive demo schedule from years of tenant build-outs left behind. This space was inspired by scenes from the infamous New York City Polo Bar and

utilized rich colors of Navy and Goldenrod, which are prominent in the stained glass and newly installed penny tile flooring. It was time for the craft brews to start flowing with installing a period-appropriate pine ceiling, new plaster crown molding, and the restoration of the original bank lobby doors, ready to greet the public in February of 2024.

Baby Cow Brewing grew from a small seed of curiosity and bloomed into an intense passion and pursuit for making beer better. Over the course of several years, they decided nothing was off limits as to what they would add to a beer just to see the outcome. From berries to jalapenos, lactose, toasted cacao nibs and Madagascar Vanilla. They took those intense flavors and toned them down to blend into a beautiful glass of beer. Love for making a better and more invigorating beverage has been the drive that keeps Baby Cow going and that passion will continue yielding new and interesting beers for the world to try.

Since then, the northeast corner of the Comanche square has been bustling with life, new visitors from out of town, food trucks, and new events. The revitalization is reminiscent of photos from years past if you were to trade horse-drawn carriages with automobiles. What will phase 3 hold for Lot 1 Block 1? The renovation of the exterior and second story to be used for short term lodging, retail space, and offices. The possibilities are endless with an additional 5,800 square feet to tackle.

As for the Tastemakers in town? They aim to spread the word about all the town has to offer, and that its a place where the taste makers unite through collaborative projects, lending a hand, and working together to grow their community. This year they have united to form a movement called Cultivate Comanche - a tourism initiative and grass roots campaign to promote the food and beverage scene and its continued growth in town. Among other food and beverage tastemakers you will find; The Harvest Creperies with French inspired fare, Cockrell Vineyards relocation to the historic square, upcoming State National Bank Pizza, and many more to come.

Iwas blessed to be able to stay home with my kids for seven years when they were little. The truth is, daycare would have cost more than I could make working full-time, so staying home was my only option, but also something I deeply cherished doing. As a result, we lived on a tight budget, so I became pretty skilled at saving money, stretching a dollar, and coming up with ways to make managing 8 little kids a bit more efficient. For today, I thought I would share some of the hacks I utilized in my life back then.

I miss having time in my day to think outside the box and be creative, but back then, I spent a lot of time studying other large families and implementing ideas learned from them. Though in more recent years, they have walked through their own family trials and tragedies, I followed the Michelle Dugger family very closely in the early years of their family. Her book, “The Duggars: 20 and Counting!: Raising One of America's Largest Families--How They Do It”, was hugely instrumental in my sanity. I learned countless lessons and walked away with numerous ideas that made life easier on everyone.

On Transportation

Don’t buy brand new vehicles.

The depreciation rate is too great on a brand new vehicle. You can save yourself thousands of dollars by purchasing a good used vehicle with lower mileage. Be willing to choose “efficiency” over “style”. When my house first filled up little kids, I was driving a brand new chevy suburban. When child #8 came along, I no longer had a vehicle large enough to seat the whole family. We had to take 2 vehicles everywhere we went. Beyond that, seven of the eight kids were in a car seat or booster seat, which made a full vehicle extremely uncomfortable for the kids and difficult for

myself to navigate. I ended up trading in my suburban for a 12-passenger van. With military vans being all over the place, we blended right in for the most part but we affectionately nicknamed it the “Creepy Van”. It was easy to be embarrassed to be seen in it, but it made life so much easier. It allowed us to spread the kids out (less fighting that way), and had a ton of room so that I could climb in and buckle everyone into their car seats. It also provided a way for the whole family to travel together. Years later, I was thrilled to see the creepy van go, but acknowledge we couldn’t have lived without it.

On Laundry

Use hand-me-downs.

Save the clothes of your older children. Divide them up by gender and size and store them in plastic storage boxes. Or, try to find an older cousin or friend who is willing to share the clothes they out-grow with you. We were blessed to receive lots of handme-downs. If they didn’t fit, I would store them until someone COULD wear them.

Family closet.

Since my kids were close in age and size, it was easy to do a “family closet”. Instead of each child having their own closet, the girls had a closet and the boys had a closet. This cut down a ton of time on figuring out what belonged to who.

The mountain.

I kept my washer and dryer going around the clock. I was not so good at folding and putting away. I would pile the clean laundry into a mountain on our loveseat and one day out of every week was my designated “laundry day”. I spent the entire day folding clothes. The kids would help with putting away when they were old enough. Here is a secret that changed my life and saved me an hour of time…stop matching socks! I separated the girls from the guys and dumped them in a drawer. It was hard to let go, but I am truly glad I did.

On Christmas & School Clothes

How to afford it.

Christmas and the start of a new school year were particularly hard times for me, financially. I learned to shop on clearance. I would buy clothes and toys throughout the year when they were at rock-bottom prices, then store them until the needed time. I saved a ton of money this way. It also kept me from being overwhelmingly stressed due to finances at Christmas; usually, I finished Christmas shopping by September.

Keeping up with the Littles

Going out in public.

Going out in public can quickly become a fiasco when you have a passel of little ones. In my house, we implemented the “Buddy System”. Each time we went out, one of the older 4 was assigned to the younger 4. This meant they were responsible for holding hands, staying together, and keeping an eye on one another while we were out. Of course I, the adult, watched over all of them, but the older kids liked having a responsibility and oftentimes, would encourage the youngsters to behave.

They were also given a buddy at home from time to time. Buddies would help with homework, listen to them read, help with brushing teeth at bedtime, etc. They also reminded each other to finish chores.

On Chores

The spreadsheet.

I am a huge believer in chores. I always kept a chore-chart spreadsheet taped to the wall. When my kids each turned 3, they got added to the chart. Of course they were given age-appropriate chores and expectations, but it instilled a sense of responsibility from a young age. I used to tell the kids, “You helped mess this place up, so you can help clean it up.” I would change the

chart up a few times each year in order to mix up the chores or add new ones according to the season. It also taught the kids how to read a chart at a young age.

There are many other things I did to increase the efficiency of raising so many young ones at once, especially in the kitchen, but these listed above are the ones that come to mind quickly. They weren’t just ideas and it wasn’t just about efficiency. I was overwhelmed; these hacks became our way of life and were necessary for survival! - Melanie

She is a wife, mother, teacher, conference speaker, song-writer, role model and mentor.

BUT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY?

Devotional By: Eileen Stacy

My husband and I started going to the senior center in our area almost two years ago. We really enjoy it. It’s so refreshing to be welcomed as one of their own. There are so many nice people there we have grown to be very fond of. It’s so interesting to hear their life experiences and spend time with them. The Bingo is really fun too.

I was sitting at a table one day when one of the ladies brought me a book. She said I could have it if I wanted it. I have so many books already. I like books. This book is almost a hundred years old. It’s interesting reading. It’s written in short sections that make a point. One section reads like a poem. It says things that make me think.

Here’s a few things I got from one of the poems I read. It’s not a direct quote but what I took away from what I read. It started out by asking questions. Here are a few. So you want to change the world? That’s great but what did you do today toward making that happen? You say you want to get healthier. What did you do today that was healthier than what you did yesterday? You want to have a tidy home. So did you declutter that pile of stuff on the coffee table? You say you want to have homegrown vegetables. Did you order the seeds today to plant in the spring? I could continue for hours asking questions about what you plan to do. The object is to see if it’s a want-to in your mind or a determination in your heart. Saying is one thing. Preparing is another.

That question arose out of this book that was written ninety years ago. It was setting on a shelf until it was given to me. It was sitting on a table in my living room until I picked it up and read a few pages. I have no idea where all this book has been in those ninety years. The pages are yellowed with age and the binding has seen better days but the questions it asked are as important today as then.

Remember the questions and answers we hear often to motivate us? Here’s a few of them. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side. How do you start a journey of a thousand miles? You take the first step. I think one of the saddest but probably the most truthful one is, what did you accomplish today? As little as possible. Why not ask yourself a few questions and answer them honestly.

Only a few days have passed in this new year. What do you hope to get accomplished in your life this year? What did you do today toward that goal? If you didn’t do anything to move forward, then when will you? Most of us probably have good intentions, but intentions aren’t the driving force behind results if you don’t get started.

The Bible’s first few words are, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” He didn’t stop there. His work is going on still today. As Christians, we are to be about our Heavenly Father’s business. The question is, “What have you and I done to enlarge His kingdom today?” If not now, when?

REMEMBER, JESUS CHRIST IS LORD AND SAVIOR FOREVER! IS HE YOURS? IF NOT, HE WANTS TO BE. SEEK HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND, IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY AND YOU WILL FIND HIM. TODAY IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. DON’T PUT IT OFF UNTIL TOMORROW.
