avigating the path from high school to college is not easy.

Just ask any stressed out senior, or their parents. Cypress Bay High School is hosting a program to help answer questions and calm concerns. Beyond the Bay is scheduled for Thursday, March 13th from 6:30 – 8:30pm at the school. Beyond the Bay will be an informative evening for all high school students and their parents dedicated to helping students transition from Cypress Bay to college and beyond. The event will feature guest speakers and informational sessions covering everything from college admissions to test taking strategies. “We are so excited to bring a program of this magnitude to our students and parents,” says Shari Bush, Beyond the Bay coordinator. “It is a great opportunity to educate them on everything they are going to need to graduate high school and move on to the next chapter of their lives.” With 98% of Cypress Bay graduates going on to either a two-year or four-year college, Beyond the Bay will provide students and families with invaluable insight. The event will begin and end with an informal open house. Attendees can visit the various tables hosted by event speakers and sponsors. Students and parents will also be able to attend two 30-minute sessions of their choice. A dozen different

subject matters will be explored through these special sessions. Beyond the Bay will feature experts from the Florida Department of Education to discuss Bright Futures and Scholarships, a college Director of Admissions to discuss choosing the right school, information on budgeting for college, an advisor from Broward College to discuss Financial Aid options, as well as representatives from Revolution Prep to discuss test taking strategies for the SAT and ACT. According to Assistant Principal Jeff Nelson, “This program will provide our students and parents with invaluable information as they prepare to transition to college and we are thrilled that this information will be presented to them by the experts in their field.” While parents may focus on the logistics of planning for college, students will probably be more interested in learning about campus life. The Freshman Reality session will feature current college freshmen talking about adjusting to college life, credit cards and having a car at college.
