ear Miramar Residents:

If you took advantage as I did to watch the Universoul Circus performing at Miramar Regional Park this past February, you were witness to one of the newest art forms in America. Unlike circuses of the past, the Universoul Circus is clearly a unique and wildly entertaining event that has turned the traditional circus world upside down. It has become a new type of family entertainment where the variety of acts from around the world creates performances that amaze everyone. Due to its enormous popularity, a scholarship opportunity has been created to allow one of our own Miramar students to experience the Universoul Circus directly through The Mayor’s Ringleader Scholarship. In conjunction with the relocation of UniverSoul Circus to the City of Miramar’s Regional Park effective February 2013, one recipient will receive a two-week summer camp residency at FSU Flying High Circus in Tallahassee. The scholarship is open to any grade 10 and 11 students who reside in Miramar and have an interest in experiencing summer camp at a circus. The Florida State University’s “Flying High” Circus is primarily an aerial and stage presentation and campers will learn a variety of acts that will include flying and static trapeze, trampoline, juggling, and more. Applicants should have a high energy level and an interest in physical activity. This has the potential to be an annual activity timed in accordance with the circus’ scheduling for Miramar. The scholarship is partly based on the Essay Theme/Topic: I am a Ringleader: Becoming the Person Others Want To Follow. The rules for the Essay Competition are: ▸▸ Essay must relate to the topic ▸▸ Essay must be your original work ▸▸ Essay should be no longer than 500 words ▸▸ Essay must not contain any vulgar or obscene language or inappropriate material ▸▸ Submission must come from a current grade 10 or 11 student, who will not turn 18 before August 2013. Students’ essays will be evaluated based on the following components: ▸▸ Creativity ▸▸ Organization – Introduction, Body Paragraphs, Conclusion ▸▸ Mechanics - Spelling/Grammar/Punctuation/Capitalization ▸▸ Relevance / Appropriateness ▸▸ Vocabulary ▸▸ Clarity - Clear presentation of the topic ▸▸ Word Count

The goal of the Mayor’s Ringleader Scholarship is to create and provide an opportunity that would befit a prospective collegian to express him/herself on the topic of being a positive “RINGLEADER” and to promote the Circus as an art form. The expectation is for this to continue on a year-to-year basis. Scholarship will be administered through City of Miramar’s Cultural Affairs Administrative Department.
