Davie Resident Goes Over the Edge for Gilda’s Club By Debby Teich

considered herself an adrenaline junky. She has jumped out of planes, bungee jumped, raced cars at the Homestead Miami Speedway, and more. On April 5, she will test her “fear factor” once again, as she rappels from the roof of the B Ocean Hotel down to A1A during the 2nd Annual Over the Edge fundraiser for Gilda’s Club South Florida. “I love pushing myself to the limit, especially when it is for a wonderful cause,” said Lang. Gilda’s Club South Florida is hosting the rappelling event in partnership with Over the Edge USA and the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale. Participation is open to the first 92 fundraisers who reach a minimum pledge of $1,000, and are willing to take a risk, overcome their fear of heights, or just try something new - all while supporting Gilda’s Club South Florida. Since 1997, Gilda’s Club South Florida has been providing programs to those living with cancer, as well as to their families and friends. All of the proceeds raised from the event will support Gilda’s Club South Florida to help ensure that the support groups, lectures, workshops, specialized children’s and teen programs, and social events offered remain available to its members free of
charge. “Gilda’s Club is thrilled to host this event for a second year,” said Gilda’s Club CEO, Shelley Goren. “We received tremendous support from fundraisers, donors and media last year; we knew we couldn’t miss the opportunity to generate so much enthusiasm and attention to a great cause.” Lang is participating in honor of her close friend, who has successfully battled colon cancer and a brain tumor, as well as other friends and family members who have been affected by the disease. Her friend’s husband participated in the event last year and she made a promise to join him this year.
