Equality and diversity attract younger generations
Equality in working life is a basic right and there is hardly any disagreement about this. The challenges of equality in working life include, for example, gender equality, the wage gap between women and men, and participation in working life. Equality should take into account more equal pay, women's share in decision-making and mitigate the gendering of sectors.
In the future, workplace equality plans could treat the repatriation and treatment of international experts separately, so that they would feel comfortable and stay in Finland. The appreciation received in the work community is also visible as more satisfied employees. A sense of community is an important basic need that increases organizational performance and social capital through work community skills. In addition to this, cultural differences should take attention with international experts. Building a sense of community through leadership and commitment to developing the working atmosphere facilitates participation and the feeling of belonging to the work community. A sense of community increases the experience of being accepted, which is especially good for international talent. Community spirit, which takes into account the person as a whole can be seen as a future success factor.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
- Is the atmosphere of the work community positive and natural or are there tensions in the air?
- Will everyone be seen and heard with their opinions, especially remote workers?
- Does the work community value diversity and is it seen as a strength?
- How would you develop inclusion and being heard?
- How are new practices instilled in the work community?
Oulu Junior Chamber International (JCI Oulu) strongly strives for internationalization, and the activities of JCI Oulu as well as other local chapters of JCI develop the international capabilities of their members. We have been operating in two languages for a few years now –Finnish and English. We still have a lot to learn to reach linguistic equality and be able to offer versatile activities in both languages. With our own activities, we want to promote the enjoyment of international students and experts in Finland, and at the same time we offer them the best hobby in the world, where they can develop themselves.
