When we’re young, we might think that we can’t achieve certain things, but the more you realize that you have the world at your fingertips, the more you can do your best to make the most of your situation. If you feel a lit tle stressed, or are going through a hard time with a friend, these three girls stories might help. A lit tle belief in yourself, and loving communication can go a long way.

Keletso often helped her friend, Masego, with her homework, but didn’t have time to focus on her own.

As a result, she often felt like she wasn’t able to do her best. She cared about her friend and wanted to be helpful. She knew she wasn’t completely happy but didn’t know what to do. One afternoon as she sat in the library, Masego asked her for her help, as usual. As she thought deeply about the situation, she realised that it is bet ter to give out of a place of abundance, rather than obligation. Reluctantly, she said: “Masego, I would love to help you, but I really need to finish this assignment. If I finish in time, I’ll see whether I can still help you out…” She braced herself for Masego’s reaction.

To her surprise, her friend said “Okay, Kele. I understand.

Thanks anyway!”

Masego was good at many things- she was awesome at athletics, she played net ball and soccer and was also the prefect for her Form.

She loved doing her best, but she was starting to feel unhappy, and she didn’t quite realize why.

One night, after chess club, she lay on her bed and burst into tears. ‘I’m so tired!’ she moaned to herself. She looked at her afternoon activity timetable, and realized that she had SO many things to do that she wasn’t having fun at any of them, any more. The following day, she spoke to her guidance and counseling teacher who said, “It ’s YOUR time, Masego- you can choose what to do with it!” Her teacher was right!

She looked at her timetable again and chose only the activities that she thought she would enjoy. She loved being a prefect, so she kept that; she kept net ball and chess, and cancelled the rest from her timetable. She was able to concentrate on the activities that she lovedand was MUCH happier! <3

ays borrowing her Maria’s younger sister, Keletso, was alw always sharing stuffare rs siste clothes. That sounds normalnever shared her tops or but what upset Maria was that Keletso r was being unfair, but skirts with her! Maria felt like her siste she read her favourite novel, didn ’t know how to approach her. As her sister would know it dawned on her that the only way that HOW would she do it, without how she felt was if she told her- but e from the library, she sounding mean? When Keletso came hom how you’re always broached the subject “Hey, Kele, You know It makes me feel sad that borrowing my tops and other stuff? clothes to wear.” She waited you don ’t ever offer me any of your replied- “Oh! I didn ’t know for Keletso to blow up at her, but she r style is so much better you felt that way- I always feel like you want to wear anything than mine, and that you would NEVER was a simple case of that I own.” The sisters realized that it clothes in sisterly love and miscommunication, and they swapped peace forever after, lol! <3

I have to say you’re one of the coolest kids I ever met, what inspires you?

Go go bolela Nnete, I’m inspired by the Universe as a whole. Everything in it. The universe is the most beautiful thing I have learned about. It’s so complex, dark, timeless, mysterious and unique! It’s one of a kind, well it’s the only one, hey! Hahaha xD it’s a work of art, like me, you and everyone else.

Deep, are you an alien? Lol... most consider you wild and free, where do you get all that energy ?

Haha, trust you to say such....I seriously don’t know! I’ve been like this all my life. It’s probably all the cartoons I watch which trigger my insanely crazy imagination.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

If I was an animal, I would be a Pandicorn! A unicorn and a panda bear in one. I would be the coolest creature ever seen!

LOL... I’ve noticed that you love dubstep, why?

Dubstep just speaks to me, man. It does something to my heart and soul. Gape it’s not music that most girls my age listen to and I like it like that. It’s unique and has this vibe to it, that makes you want to climb a tree an watch the sunset.

Pahahaha, okay a tree..really... who are you listening to right now ?

I’ve been listening to a lot of electronica and indie & alternative bands. My number one electronica artist right now is MO. Her voice is just so rusty and earthy and raw- I’m in love with her music. And a group called Phantogram - they just keep me in a trance when I listen to them. Then my indie&alternative bands are Cage the Elephant and Gorgeous Bully. These two really get me CRAZY. I go wild when I listen to them.

Tell me about your journey with sky girls Oh my Gosh! I’ve really gotten more confident and openminded about people’s opinions and views. It’s made me happy with and accepting of who I am and what I stand for.

What’s the best part about being a SKY Girl?

Being a SKY girl is totally pote... You have like 40 000 other girls across Botswana who are ready to help you when you have a problem, who are totally awesome and loving and are amazing to talk to. Like, it’s really inspiring.

Cage The Elephant, ‘Come a Little Closer’ What I like: It’s has this beat to it, and the lead’s voice is raw and how they fuse their music together is so different and it’s cool how it merges together. How it makes me feel: I get really excited; it unleashes the beast and hypes me up!

Eliphant ft Mo, ‘One More’

What I like: It’s electronica and I like the electronic vibe.

Eliphant has an accent so when she sings, it sounds like Reggae, but it’s not! Mo also has an accent but the two accents together is really beautiful because of the fusion of cultures. How it makes me feel: It calms me down- I can think when I listen to it…

Gorgeous Bully, ‘Dissolve’

What I like: It’s Indie music, and it also calms me down. I like that it sounds like what Indie music should be. His voice is rough, and beautiful in an odd way- as if he shouldn’t be singing, but he does!

How it makes me feel: If I’m feeling down, it makes me feel better…

My plan after form 5 is called The Triple A: A levels, Athletics and Arts. I would love to continue my studies, pass my A levels, get a scholarship to study psychology in London and at the same time train for the Olympics (fingers crossed)! After my achievements I would like to have my own fashion line or just dance. I will pursue these stages with hard work, dedication, self- belief, guidance from my parents and God.

The SKY Nation has the world at our fingertips! If we stay true to our sures and steer clear of our shapos there is no saying how far we can go! Check how these young women are planning to conquer themselves, and then the world! :D <3

A woman with good qualities in my opinion is one that is patient enough to wait for the right time and doesn’t rush things. She would be a loving person because she knows that what you give out to the world comes back five times harder. As well as being confident,she should be able to stand up for what she believes in, even if she stands alone. Ke shapo ka smoking because I don’t think it is ladylike.

Being smoke-free is hella-cool, you have a beautiful smile and you smell fresh.

(Fresher than you!) When you stay true to yourself you accomplish so much more than you would being a copy, because you will work nights to get the work done- not because of the money but because you love it so much. Word to the flaming SKY Nation: You were born O.G (original), don’t die a copy.

Abbie Wally I have a curious mind and love to travel.

I’d love to - after I’ve saved up enough - travel for a bit and have my own ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ experience, lol. I’d like to be culturally diverse so I can pass on the knowledge I’ve learnt through my experience in whatever country I decide to settle in. I’m doing my A levels right now, so basically doing well with them is gonna be my ticket out of here. The qualities I’d like to cultivate are humility and PATIENCE, (I’m not the most patient person in the world!) I think I’ve got a few good qualities right now and these are just the ones I feel I absolutely need to become the woman I want to be.

Staying true to yourself and to your sures and shapos definitely gives you a good chance of succeeding at achieving your goals. If you don’t give a second glance to your shapos then you have a good chance of being inspired only by positive things that will bring you closer to your goals.

Guys, keep doing you- even if it isn’t perceived as cool by others. Don’t live for temporary thrills if they aren’t something you’d be proud to talk about the next day. And most importantly don’t shy away from life, go out and make memories, and even if you trip up here and there, it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you dust yourself off and get your head in the right space (learning from them would be cool too)! :)

Malaika Williams Once I leave high school I plan to go to university to study law, and further my knowledge in dance. I think that hard work and dedication are the best way to get to where you want to go.

By planning ahead I hope to be able to achieve my goals, because planning, to me, is essential. I would like to be more confident with myself regularly, rather than have brief bursts of confidence, like I do now. I also want to be wise, and more patient, and learn how to deal with conflict more efficiently.

Smoking is one of my shapos, mainly because of the problems it causes to people’s well being. Staying true to yourself helps you keep your focus on what you want and where you want to be. ‘True to myself’, says it all! But I think that you should also remember to never give up, and if something isn’t working for you, look back at why you started it in the first place. If your mindset has changed, your goals can change too, no one has to stay the same forever. Above all, think positive & S M I L E :D

For the past few months, SKY has allowed me to express myself without getting the feeling that I am being judged or having to compromise who I am… It has always been a dream of mine to one day leave the country and go to school somewhere not very far from home.

I believe that hard work pays off, and I am working very hard to beat my best. Cultivating myself as a young woman has got to be one of the most important goals I have set for myself, as it leads to independence. At a very tender age I was taught to use my money wisely. At the time I thought it was the worst thing ever, but trust me- it definitely helped me because now, I am a lot more independent and have learned to accept the things I can do without. As a young lady, learning how to be independent can also reduce your dependency on your partner when you are older, for sure.

My shapo definitely has to be smoking- not just because I am a SKY girl, but in my opinion, being smoke-free is actually really cool.

You also get to be yourself and there is nothing cooler than being yourself and being positive when making decisions that affect you in the short or long run. Besides that, smoking is unattractive.

Staying true to your sures and shapos gives you a chance to succeed at achieving your goals. When you fully know and understand that there are things you are better off without, it helps you focus more on finding yourself, working on your strengths and improving on your weaknesses.

Talitha Tim I would love to spend time traveling, allowing the world to open my mind to new experiences. From the beginning of the year I identified my goals and set out a list of things that would assist me in achieving these goals. Focus is an essential part of any student life. With the determination to succeed, I am positive that hard work will help me achieve my goals.

As a young woman, there are so many qualities that I would like to cultivate within myself to not only better myself, but also better society.

The most important quality that I am working on at the moment is discipline & selfacceptance. We are all blessed with different capabilities that make us all unique and different and by being true to yourself you get a chance to be the best version of yourself.
