The Journey of Oasis Montagé has been absolutely fabulous. There appeared to be times of silence that were full of peace and tranquility. This was the time when God was working miracles for the life of Oasis Montagé. It was a time of cleansing. A time when you’re getting rid of the old to pour on the new. There are no losses in times of despair, it’s just a swift transition. I found the last few months to be filled with choices and voices. What should you be listening to and who should you be focused on? God was the chosen choice. Through it all, blessings flowed abundantly. God blessed me with great collaborative partnerships of 108 Praise Radio, Shadeed Swanson, and Lisa Battise. Together we have formed a unique way of reaching those that may not know the voice of God. We have formed, Oasis Montagé Talkshow on 108 Praise Radio with CEO, Courtney Clarke. Courtney is also the broadcast teacher for Oasis Summer camp along with Shadeed Swanson who teaches Music. Lisa has been the legal beagle to the united forum that keeps us all running logistically correct. The summer camp has been great with these wonderful teachers along with Iralynn NNylari and Sonyetta Lynn. They too have assisted Oasis Montagé by teaching classes at the summer camp. Oasis Montagé has also been busy producing stage plays, Women Shoptalk while Real Men wait, and The Gift of Love. Along with the play, Oasis Montagé has a food pantry that feeds the homeless and domestic violence shelters. Oasis is serious about the scripture, “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your goodworks and glorify Him in Heaven.” It’s important that we be servants of God. This issue talks about Trumpet Awards, Kimmie Awards, Mayors Ball of Atlanta and our beautiful royal wedding. Yes, Princess Megan and the Prince Harry bridged the bi-racial gap of discrimination at the palace. They are not the only

ones that said, “I Do,” the beautiful Lisa Bonet and Jason Momoa finally made their relationship official. Looking at how much Oasis Montagé has accomplished is wonderful. A summer camp is so wonderful. Looks like the organization is doing extremely well and they are doing a great job in the community. The Gifted Alcoholic was so true. Teenagers are getting involved I’m so much these days. Parents are working just to be providers and no time to monitor their own children. I love the issue of the magazine with all the Oasis Montagé Magazine staff. The majestic view of downtown Atlanta is absolutely amazing. The stylist of the photoshoot had a great eye with a clear story and vision of the journey of Oasis Montagé. When I read the issue of the magazine, I was able to see where the magazine has been and the direction of the bridge it has crossed. The staff standing on Jerome Bridge overlooking the city of Atlanta, is breathtaking. The creativity and the design work in this magazine is phenomenal. Congratulations to all of the masterminds who illustrated the journey of a Montagé Journey. Blaise Williams, Atlanta a wide choice of trumpet awards recipients. The awards present great entertainment and honor to black leadership. This is truly a classy event. They have great tributes and singers. I Look forward to the trumpet awards every year. I truly loved the article on the Essence Festival. The highlight was on my favorite movie, movie “Girl’s Trip.” That movie was so funny, especially about the grapefruit. To see Mary J. She is a focused business woman that puts God first in all she does. As the VP Administrator of Oasis Montagé, Lisa manages the business as well as Co Host the Oasis Montagé Radio Talk show.
Dr. Vanessa Adams is Oasis Montagé Magazine’s VP of Marketing and Production Manager. Dr. Adams is part owner of television station as well as manager of The Comedy Corner. Her affiliation in the celebrity industry brings a new outlook to Oasis Montagé. She will manage distribution, marketing, and contribute her education in ministry to the relationships and religion departments of the magazine.

The month of June, is the start of vacation, and school is out! Families will be traveling on road trips for vacations, family reunions, college visits, and relocations. Please remember to stay healthy and safe while having fun in the sun. With extended driving, the risk of driving fatigue has increased. Schedule regular breaks while driving and share driving with others. If you can, check into a hotel to spend the night. Limit cell phone conservations and don’t text while driving. Have emergency contact information in your wallet. Don’t forget to bring your medications and remember to buckle up. Never leave a child or pet alone in the car. On average, more than 37 children die each year from heat related deaths after being trapped inside vehicles. Take an extra moment to ensure that everyone is out of the car. Prioritize your wellness. Adults should receive at least 150 minutes of moderately intense aerobic activity each week. Go for a brisk walk. Walk the dog, because they need exercise too. Children should receive at least 60 minutes of exercise daily. You don’t have to join a gym. There are small things that you can do each day. There are ways that you can fit exercise into your everyday life. Take the stairs instead of the elevators. Park further in the parking lot instead of close to the store. Go outside and play with your children or grandchildren. Look on YouTube for exercise videos. Wellness should also include preventive health maintenance. The summer is a good time to schedule your family’s early physicals, and don’t forget your dental cleanings. We are all busy, but don’t forget to eat healthy. Take advantage of the seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. Bring a healthy snack with you when you run your errands or when you get caught in Atlanta traffic.
With summer comes hotter temperatures. What is the best way to cool off? Go swimming!! Unfortunately drowning is one of the ten leading causes of death in African-American children ages 5-19 years and they are 5.5 times more likely to drown in a swimming pool. Do not swim alone. If your child does know how to swim, sign them up for swimming lessons. Stay hydrated especially if you remain outdoors for extended periods of times. Wear lightweight, loose, well ventilated clothing. If you exercise outside, schedule activities for cooler times of the day. Be sure to warm-up and cool-down after vigorous activities. If you take medications or have certain medical conditions, consult your physician prior to starting an exercise regimen. Drink plenty of water and limit caffeine, colas and alcohol intake. This will help to decrease your risk of heat related illness. If you develop painful leg cramps, pale moist skin, headache, weakness, temperature nausea or vomiting, seek assistance immediately. Finally, summer is a good time to make sure that your home is safe. Take the time to declutter. Our homes can be a place that people can sustain injuries. Falls are the third leading cause of unintentional- injury related deaths. Look around to make sure that your home is safe. Wear proper footwear especially if you have diabetes. Put a night light in the bathroom. If you are older, install grab bars near the toilet, shower or bathtub. I hope that you’ve enjoyed this month’s health topics. Until we meet again. Stay safe!

Michael Frazier is a former Semi-Professional football player. He has attributed his skills to being the commissioner of The Southern Football League. Frazier is also a Fulton County police officer and serves his community honorably. Frazier is a man who has mastered the craft of football and is in the Semi-Professional Football Hall of Fame. Frazier has a sound knowledge and passion for the love of football and maintains healthy for the sport. Frazier says, “I love working with youth and young adults. I look forward to sharing my wisdom and knowledge in both law enforcement and football with today’s youth. It is my passion and gives me joy to help others.” With Frazier’s high level of experience, most find him as asset with his ability to master sports, marketing and management. Frazier’s history includes managing corporate fundraisers and and being a non-profit sponsor. He has attributed the capability to be a giver by giving his best to those that need him. You will find most of Frazier’s time spent giving back to the community. He volunteers for the community athletic programs as well as their training camps. Mr. Frazier is a man that loves his craft, and the sport; football.

I had the pleasure of interviewing the New York based entrepreneur Sloteur Joseph about his new liquor brand. Bleu Royal Spirits is a concoction of tequila and rum mixed together. Concoction drinks are a “no-no” in the liquor industry, but Mr. Joseph isn’t letting anyone or anything deter him from accomplishing a vision he intends to fulfill! So watch out for this silky smooth drink that will be in stores nationwide very, very soon! Q: Where are you from? A: Born in Haiti and raised in Rockland County, New York. Q: How was life for you growing up? A: I had a great life growing up in my eyes, but others may see it as coming from the bottom. But I had great friends and great family structure that carried me through. Q: What inspired you to create “Bleu Royal Spirits” liquor? A: Bleu Royal® you can say was created because there was a void in the market. There was a need for the luxury classy spirit that had appeal to a mass audience. The search for the inspirational brand was missing. And of course it had to be of the highest quality and taste. Strong enough for the aficionados and smooth enough for even those that don’t drink. Q: How has your journey been so far in the liquor industry? A: It’s been tough being a new brand not only that, we are not just a traditional liquor; we are an infusion of tequila and Rum. So we are a category creator and that puts yet another hurdle in our path to overcome. Couple all that with the fact that we are black owned, it’s been tough. But we turned all those negatives into a positive. The first plus is that we are a new product to the market, everyone wants to be invoked with the new. Then we are a category creator that means there’s nothing like us in the market so we are it. Then we are black owned, that means we are the trendsetters and the cool kids on the block. There’s not to many black owned brands out. Once we figured out that the negative things were actually positives, it was smooth from then on. It’s all a matter of perspective. How do you view yourself and the world. Are you going to make excuses or are you going to see that your “WHY” is bigger than the excuses. Q: As a black man, what are some of the pitfalls you have encountered in the liquor industry which is a white dominated industry? A: I kind of touched on that the prior question, but again it is really tough. People slamming doors in your face, not being taking you seriously; but there are people out there that will give you the chance. But once you get that chance, your product must blow them away. You can’t just have an average product. Your presentation has to blow them away before they even taste the liquid. When you can do that, then your liquid have to win their hearts. We knew that going in and that’s why we pulled all the stops and made sure we were the
best going in. And the product put them in a position where they couldn’t refuse it. We entered some competitions and won medals to get the right to be in the room with the decision makers. Q: What are some of the lessons you have gained from the liquor industry? A: We learned a few things along the way. One major thing we learned is that people reading things wanting to be in the industry should know is “you can have the best product in the world, but if you can’t market it you just have a myth”. Q:What advice would you give a young black man who would like to create a liquor brand just like you have? A: Well I’d say don’t do it just like us, cause you don’t need the competition lol. Seriously, if you have a vision of what you want your drink to be just stay the course. Don’t let people try to discourage you and steer you away from the dream. For example we had a lot of people telling us not to mix 2 liquors together because that’s never been done. Our thought was great that’s what we are going for. They told us don’t put it in a blue bottle because there’s no Rum or tequila in blue bottles, we said great that’s what we were going for. I’m not saying don’t take advice but what I am saying is if it takes you away from your core vision you should really think about if that advice is your core or someone’s opinion of what they want you to fit in. Q: What is the mission statement for “Bleu Royal Spirits”? A: Simply put: Bleu Royal® is an inspirational brand. We set to bring elegance luxury and a lifestyle to the masses and inspire them to be great. Q: Where do you see your brand 5-10 years down the road? A: Five years Bleu Royal® will be a household brand with distribution in at least 40 of the 50 states in the US with a couple countries abroad. But in 10 years I see the brand get lots of offers from the major companies in an attempt to buy us out. Q:What would you like to tell people who haven’t it tried it as of yet why they wouldn’t be disappointed if they did? A: Well to all the people, I want to tell them to be patient with us and we are working on getting Bleu Royal® in their hands. We don’t really say try or taste Bleu Royal® we say EXPERIENCE Bleu Royal®. Cause that’s the best way to describe it. Jason Momoa & Lisa Bonet may seem like two hippies, but that is further from the truth. There more like the coolest couple on the block. Despite the age discrepancy between them, Lisa being 50 & Jason being 38, their love for each other is undying. Jason has had a crush on her since the tender age of 8 while watching her on TV. He once told his mom “Mommy, I want that one!”, which may have seemed odd for a kid at such a young age to be in love at the first sight. He never realized he was manifesting his future. They met through mutual friends at a jazz club, and he completely freaked meeting his childhood crush! Like he said on “The Late Show” with James Corden, “I was like, I’m going to stalk you for the rest of my life and I’m going to get you. I’m a full-fledged stalker.” Lisa Bonet was born on November 16, 1967 in San Francisco, CA . Her father Allen Bonet an opera singer (African American descent) and her mother, Ashkenazi Jewish (Poland & Russia descent) who was a teacher. She lived most her life in both New York & Los Angeles due to her parents divorcing when she was very young . She landed her first major role as Denise Huxtable at the age of 16 on the hit comedy series, “The Cosby Show” (1984). She reprised the same role on “A Different World” (1987) with the help of Bill Cosby. That same year she married Lenny Kravitz (who she thought was her soulmate who also is half-black and half-Jewish). The following year, they had their daughter Zoe. They separated then divorced in a bitter breakup in 1993. While Lisa fell to the background with her acting career, Lenny’s music career took off. Jason was born on August 1, 1979 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was raised in Iowa by his father Joseph Momoa a painter, (Hawaiian descent) and his mother Coni Lemke (German descent) a photographer who is from Iowa. He began acting at age 10 on “Baywatch Hawaii”. When the show ended he traveled the world and continued his acting career in 2001 when he moved to Los Angeles. He has since played major roles such as Conan on the reboot of “Conan the Barbarian” (2011), the Dothraki King “Khal Drogo” in Game of Thrones (2011), Aquaman in DC Comics “Justice League” among the many roles he’s played. Even though Jason is 6’4 and Lisa is 5’2, they are truly soulmates. They were together for 12 years before they tied the knot in October 2017. They share two children Lola and Nakoa-Wolf. While they prefer privacy from the public eye regarding their family; it doesn’t affect them obtaining roles in movies. Jason continues to work, while Lisa prefers to be a stay at home Mom. Like she said before “I’m a shy person. I don’t know if it’s in my DNA to share with the world.”

From the moment I was approached to write a piece on Meghan Markle, the new Duchess of Sussex, I was filled with emotion. I was honored that I was even thought worthy enough for the task. The feeling was daunting to say the least. Could I even do her justice, I mean we don’t exactly run in the same circles. At that point, I stepped back, pulled myself together and decided I could give my clear and concise opinion of the new Duchess–and I began to write.

Firstly, let me tell you this is not going to be a Meghan bashing piece so if that is what you are looking for you may want to go on to the next article. People of color, no matter what percentage that may be get bashed enough from the outside, without fellow people of color bashing from within. From all that I have read, listened to and watched, Meghan was destined for this outcome. As a pre-teen she found her niche. She saw what she didn’t like and she took steps to change it. She went straight to the top with letters to the then First Lady of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Melissa Ellerby, a prominent children’s news show host, and Gloria Allred, world renowned attorney to state her position. She directly addressed the company directors with correspondence that clearly outlined her objection to their advertising; and her vision of how to bring about change–and change happened. At eleven years of age, through peaceful opposition, she obtained change. Meghan went on to become her own woman, with a professional career. Holding her own while swimming with the big fish on the wellreceived USA network sitcom Suits. Then along came Harry, His Royal Highness the Duke of Sussex as he is now known. Diana’s youngest son, one of her two reasons for living. Handsome, debonair, fun Harry. Love happened! At the same time, the hater’s, the “What’s in it for me folk” and the well-wishers came out. To use an old phrase, Hater’s are going to hate. They would hate on themselves before they looked into a mirror and realized what they were doing. To them I say let her live and sweep around your own front door.

As to the second group who seem to believe that Meghan’s marriage equates something for them, to be honest I rolled my eyes. Then I thought, wait there is something for the people to be found within this marriage. Something you can glean from Meghan; a recipe. I repeat, a recipe for how it’s done. Basic instructions if you will. Really, we all have them, and for those who maybe lacking, be that friend who helps another find their recipe. With Meghan nothing is overdone. Her hair, makeup, clothes always as they should be for the moment. Her demeanor, her speech her surroundings exacting. Throughout her life all of these things have put her in a position to put forward her best self. Our mothers always tell us to watch the company you keep. People are always watching and waiting for you to make a slip. Don’t give up and fall into their slip up. No matter if you work a regular 9-5 or you have the highest attainable degree for your field, be the best. Act and dress for success daily. You never know when your prince will come. By prince, I don’t mean that literally. Think about it there are many beautiful, talented people in the world and they will no sooner marry an actual prince, then every talented ball player will land a multi-million-dollar contract. What I do mean, is use of the word prince figuratively, living your best life. We should expect no one to fulfill our dreams to a perfect life. We must stop looking for a mouthpiece and be the mouthpiece. The change in our lives, in our world is waiting for each of us to make our move. Meghan has managed through being her best self to
awaken hope within people all over the world. With her soft smile and strong voice, her graceful carriage of person, she reminds me of many who have come before; Lady Diana, Coretta Scott King, Myrlie Evers, and Jaqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. She seems to meet no strangers, she will interact with all that she meets. She thinks deeply into her actions, how they will affect her, and pay homage to her title. She does this all while incorporating her own spirit within it. Meghan and Harry are set to begin visiting countries bridging differences and hi-lighting commonalities. They give credence to the saying “We are more alike, than we are different.” The well-wishers for the new Duchess of Sussex, and this is where I see myself, are proud of another deserving woman’s success. I wish years of happiness and joy for this new power couple and pray God’s continued blessings over them. We all are familiar with the parable of the ten virgins in the Bible. Five wise and five foolish. Over the years, I have applied it in one form or another to situations occurring in and around my life. Founded in 1992 by American Civil Rights leader Xernona Clayton, Although The Trumpet Awards were acquired by Bounce in 2016, The Trumpet still Sounds. The list of prestigious honorees over its 26-year history includes Muhammad Ali, Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, The African-American Women of the United States Congress, Steve Harvey, Martin Luther King III, Janelle Monáe and Spike Lee. The 2018 Bounce Trumpet Awards were held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta. The prestigious annual event celebrating African-American achievements and contributions still sounds. The evening’s festivities were hosted by actors Larenz Tate and Erica Ash as celebrities, notable and esteemed guests from far and wide gathered to honor the outstanding accomplishments of African Americans and those who have succeeded against great odds and inspired success in others. Memorable moments and highlights of the event included: • A rousing musical tribute to So So Def Recordings Founder and honoree Jermaine Dupri which included performances by Anthony Hamilton, Bow Wow, Xscape and a surprise appearance by Ludacris that brought the house down. Shadeed Swanson is an Inspirational Artist known as Poetic. As an Inspirational Hip-Hop innovator from Tuskegee Alabama, Poetic tours and promotes his hits songs from his EP, “Bless the Seeds,” “The Beast,” and “Anything.” His hit single, Seeds has recently been added to more than two-hundred and fifty FM radio stations in the South western region. This is becoming Poetic’s biggest song yet. Recently he has had appearances in the Source Magazine and People TV. The Boykin Girls are on the rise out of the ATL and the literal Rising Stars for the historical Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC, where they were selected from a nationwide search to perform as a musical ensemble. The audition was among many talented young performers throughout the nation which provides classical artistically talented youth with a high-profile performance venue that recognizes their exceptional talent. As a Christian counselor it is important to remember the words of my mouth must be acceptable unto God for he is my light and my salvation. When counseling a child of God, that person looks to hear a sound word that is strictly biblical not personal. Depending on who we are counseling depends on what scripture is used but one thing that must be remembered is that the Law of the Lord does not change just because man chooses to rewrite the word to fit their own circumstance. The scripture clearly states the law was not changed and as a leader and counselor maintaining the word of God’s Las must be adhere to. We are to be righteous and teachers of God’s law. Not adheading to God’s law keeps us from entering the Kingdom of God. The 10 commandments should be taken seriously and governed to just as we govern the laws of the land which too are God’s commandments. We are to be about our Fathers business and as teachers should keep us walking and talking Christlike at all times. I remember watching a play called Heaven Gates, Hells Flames. It reminds me of this scripture in Matthew 5:17-20. Are we truly about our Fathers business and obeying the commandments? Are we ready when our life has ended and we have to answer to Christ for our life on earth? Where will you go, Heaven or Hell? The life you live speaks for you. Has your life on earth been a servant of God or have

you been a living hell raiser? Judgement day will come and you have to ask yourself, “Are you ready?” When you know better, you are to do better. Some choose not to learn of God because they do not want to live a righteous life, but the word says that we are to study the word and show ourselves approved. Ignoring the word and pretending you do not know God is only keeping you from a closer walk with thee. We are to be Christian leaders and set examples for others to follow the Christ in us. Jesus did not come to abolish the law but he came to fulfill them. It matters if we obey God’s law and not excuse our behavior of disobedience. In Matthew 18, Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” Just because we are in the New Testament does not mean the word and laws should be changed. They are to still be obeyed. The resurrection of Christ must continue to be taught; the laws have not changed. As leaders and teachers, God’s word clearly states we must teach the law and not break God’s law, the 10 commandments. No, we are not perfect like Christ, but every day we are to walk and talk better than yesterday. As believers and have faith in God, we have to grow with the desire to be more and more like Him.

The 34th Annual UNCF Atlanta Mayor’s Masked Ball raised a record-breaking $1.3 million dollars for scholarships supporting historically black colleges and universities (HBCU) as the city’s most accomplished and prominent individuals gathered for a night of fine food, entertainment, and fundraising. Surpassing last year’s milestone of being the first UNCF event to net $1 million dollars, tickets were sold out for the elegant gala taking place at the Marriot Marquis downtown. Perhaps because of Mayor Kasim Reed’s last ball as mayor, the HBCU graduate has worked in partnership over the last night years with the organization to make the event the highlight of the holiday season. “I cannot think of a better way to spend our last few weeks as your mayor and the first lady of the city of Atlanta than making sure other people maintain opportunity and have the kind of fair shot and fair shape that I have had,” he said speaking to a crowd at the VIP Masked Award reception prior to the event. Reed was joined by President and CEO of UNCF Michael L. Lomax who also spoke to the power of the Atlanta community coming together for such an important cause started by Billye Suber Aaron and Ambassador Andrew J. Young. “I’ve been to this gala all over the country, but this is the first, the original, and it is still the biggest and most exciting night that we have,” he said. “I think there is a tradition in Atlanta of people giving back to this community because this community has lifted up so many of us. It’s given us opportunities to build a great city and make it better all of the time and to be a part of it. And I think we all know that education is at the foundation of that and our historically black colleges are pillars of that foundation.” He extended a special thank you to Reed for his work over the years who will be superseded by Keisha Lance Bottoms in the new year, a HBCU graduate from Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University. UNCF’s mission is to support HBCU students like Lance Bottoms and Reed by raising money to go towards textbooks and other college costs. Justine Boyd, Regional Development Director told Rolling Out last month that the organization has helped more than 600 students attending one of the 37-member colleges and universities. The money donated in Atlanta goes to individuals attending institutions part of the historic Atlanta University Consortium: Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College and the

The architecture of Havana, Trinidad has the most amazing heirlooms. The cobblestone streets and buildings are older and well crafted. In the parking lot, there is an array of colorful cars; some are convertibles and some have shiny chrome. The classical Cadillac cars and buildings are complimented by the era attire of the 1950’s. When you walk the streets of downtown, you imagine being on the show, Happy Days. The attire of the community is very comfortable and the people are very family oriented. They wear lots of Khaki pants, shorts, and dresses with matching straw hats. There are cigar shops and liquor stores on every corner and they are famous for those 2 items. The town people are very friendly and their conditions appear to be economically challenged. Cuba has a historical heritage with significant customs and religious values. Most people are either walking the streets, riding in buggies or being driven by a bicycle chauffer. When visiting the shops, there were lots of hand engraved leather items and hand craft wood carvings. You could fill love in the air when you heard the cultural singing and festival bands. They filled the streets with joy and laughter. The Beaches in Cuba are sandy and white with fine sand. The beautiful turquoise waters and friendly stingrays at the marina, welcomed you with friendly hospitality. Sea shells were found everywhere and they were filled with clams. The swamp land of Cuba waters was filled with a multitude of crocodiles. Cuba is the unforgettable experience of love, peace, harmony and the classical home; away from home.
