God’s Grace

welCoMe to an aMazing season of grace and favor. The Goodness of God has manifested into a multitude of blessings. This is the 9th year celebration of the Oasis Montagé Magazine and we are grateful and thankful that God pushed us through with our mind stayed on Him. This journey has been a faith walk and the seeds we planted have blossomed with a majestic mission of completion. The non-profit, Oasis Montagé Ministries organization had a busy year, Oasis fed the homeless, the women of the domestic violence shelter, and the churches with the food pantry. For 2 years, we maintained a children’s summercamp and thanks to 108 Praise Radio, the children produced and aired a radio show. In December, 2018, we blessed more than 600 children with toys to economically challenged children. The Oasis Montagé Ministries produced 3 sold out stage plays as well as unify broken homes through our CASA work. As we dedicate the July/August/September issue to our anniversary, we want to we want to share the fruits of joy announcing our partnership with ClarkeTV and Visions 105.1 syndicated radio station. Oasis Montagé Radio Talkshow is now live on the TV and radio air spot. You can find our new App and watch the shows on several platforms. The App can be uploaded on www.108praiseradio.com. You can view all previous shows on the App as well as YouTube. Our Partnership has manifested an empire ordained by God. It is very challenging for people to come together, but when you have like-minded, sky is the limit. The Feature cover story takes our readers onto a journey with the new Sr. Pastor of New Birth Church; Pastor Jamal Bryant. Since December, he has made major accomplishments in the city of Atlanta; one of which is feeding homeless people, providing the homeless and economically challenged families with clothing, jobs and scholarships. Pastor Bryant is not just a preacher, but this man of God walks by faith and does what His father has ordained him to do. During the Superbowl in January, Pastor highlighted sextrafficking and opened his first television show on the Word Network with interviews from 2 survivors.

Sextrafficking is one of the stories you will find in this issue along with a stage play called, Angels Palace. The stage play is to bring awareness about an epidemic that has hit the city of Atlanta. In this issue, take a glance at the beautiful fashions and hairstyles that will keep you cool this summer. The Oasis Montagé media staff covered events such as the Kimmie Awards, Women’s Expo, The Trumpet Awards, and the movie Sinner’s Wanted. Look for our winter issue, this is the 6th year that Oasis Montagé Magazine media staff has taken you on a journey to the Essence Festival, New Orleans, LA. “As God reveals your journey and purpose, remember to use the biblical wisdom tools to be a conqueror. Always remember you are a servant first and to walk by faith and not by sight.” Clarice Carolyn Jones

MACON MINISTERS’ INSPIRE QUEENIE’S STORY I want to tell the publisher of this magazine that I truly enjoy all that you cover in your magazine. It is hard to find magazines in the stores that have a true quality and good content. This magazine has great crisp images and whoever designs the magazine is really creative. I love everything you put in your issues and I am happy to be a subscriber. inger quinn, louisville, ky I have been a subscriber of Oasis Montagé since 2012 and I am glad you are still printing copies of your magazine. This last issue really touched my heart especially when I read about Harriet Tubman. The lady called Moses has done so much for our people. I am most excited to hear they are putting her face on the postage stamp. She deserves to be honored.. lynn, sedalia, Mo It was is really great to see all the celebrities at the Essence Festival. To know our heritage is still being honored in New Orleans is absolutely great. We have a lot of great ethnic foods in the southern states but most importantly we have a lot of great leaders that come from New Orleans.

Joann thoMas, birMinghaM, al Love Lady Aretha There is nothing more amazing than to see someone go from being a victim to valor. That is exactly what I think about Aretha Franklin. She is a lady of style and class with a majestic voice that rings from one end of the room to another. All eyes and ears are on this amazing woman when she walks into a room. She is truly the queen of soul. For all she has gone through in the industry, there is none like you lady of grace. May Queen Aretha rest in heaven. star herring Moore, taMpa Fl Loving Oasis Montagé This magazine is absolutely marvelous. I see the journey you have traveled and you have made a difference. Today magazines are seen online and very few are still seen in outlets. Printing is played out for a lot of publications and there are very few black magazines. I want to say keep doing what your doing Oasis Montagé Magazine. The content looks great and the art department is amazing. Janine Johnson, Colorado springs, Co —continued on page 13

Be Aware of Human Trafficking Photos and Text by Clarice Jones

atlanta ranks aMong the top in u.s. Cities for human trafficking. During Super Bowl LIII, nearly 200 people were arrested as result of a sting operation held to curtail sex trafficking (often with children) during Super Bowl weekend in Atlanta, earlier this year. As someone whose own 16 year-old great niece was trafficked by her mother (my nephew’s ex girlfriend), who God has blessed me to be able to rescue, I want to become a change agent and collaborate with like-minded individuals who are influencers, to put a stop to this travesty that is enslaving thousands of our women, girls and even our boys and young men around the country and the world. To that end, my theatrical company and Magazine, Oasis Montagé, along with Praise 108 Radio and Visions 105.1, are non-profit organizations coming together to produce the Kickoff concert starring Earth,Wind & Fire review and X-Factor Finalists Lillie McCloud, October 11th, conference October 12 and Angels Palace Stage Play, October 13th 2019. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and we want to maximize awareness of both human trafficking and domestic violence through this conference. We will be working with organizations that work to prevent human trafficking like Georgia Cares or Wellspring Living, to ensure we get in front of middle, high school and even college students. In order to educate and empower people on major issues impacting our community. Sex trafficking is yet another serious issue in our community. We must take a stand to fight what man has done to destroy humanity. 8 OASIS/Montagé • August 2019

Oasis Montagé Magazine Exclusive Interview: Pastor Jamal Harrison Bryant by kimberly J. west • photos by tbumper & John McClung

16 OASIS/Montagé • August 2019

P I would say to African American men do not allow culture to define your manhood but find your identity in your family history.

astor Jamal harrison bryant is an anointed Pastor, Community Leader, Motivational Speaker, Media Personality, and rising menswear faith-based Style Icon. During his transition as the newly appointed pastor of New Birth Missionary Ministries he has taken the Atlanta metro area by storm! Just recently he along with the congregation raised $120,000 to bail out first-time nonviolent offenders in Georgia counties. The motivation behind his effort was due to Pastor Bryant recognizing the church has been muted in prison reform. He immediately took action requesting financial support from the congregation and stakeholders, OASIS/MontagÊ • August 2019 17

resulting in a large financial donation. Celebrities such as Clifford Joseph Harris—also known as T.I.—teamed up with the church and made nationwide headlines in a matter of days. Some of his additional initiatives as the newly appointed Pastor include feeding 5000K homeless men and women during a Super Bowl celebration. This was a direct, hands-on approach to facing the needs of this underprivileged community. Pastor Bryant made a huge impact and the church not only served meals but also provided hair styling services. He is definitely not the type of clergyman to stand on the sidelines and wish for a change. Pastor Bryant is proactive and involves the church in efforts that truly matter. Sex Trafficking is often a hidden topic within the African-American community but this is not the case for Pastor Jamal Harrison Bryant. As a millennial pastor, he is aggressively bringing this issue to light weekly on his network show “Power To The People.” With a passion for change and personal motto, “Love, Lead, and Live like Christ” he not only inspires the community to strive higher through hands-on outreach but also encourages AfricanAmerican men to play an active role in the lives around them. Pastor Jamal Harrison Bryant sat down with Oasis Montagé Magazine to share a few of his

thoughts about faith and the influence of art and fashion in the religious community. He is not only known for his moving sermons; addressing topics such debt and financial wellness but his personal style is an inspiration to the church weekly. Pastor Bryant can be seen wearing Embroidered Button-Down tops, Tailored Plaid Blazers, or African print shirts. Creating a personal brand through individuality that adds style and flair to his sermons. On the cover, he is featured wearing the Bespoke Plaid Suit from Connaisseur Paris, Peachtree, Georgia location. The boutique is an apparel business with additional offices in Silver Spring, Maryland. Can you describe how do fashion and art have a place in the ministry? God was absolutely decadent and creative when you look at the earth and realize that he was mindful of everything in particular. The sky was blue and the grass is green; the flowers are red. He is the original interior decorator. God in creation is in no uncertain terms an artist. All of us should embody in some level an art form. My house, growing up was filled with art and music. My mother called it a sanctuary. It wasn’t always James Cleveland but sometimes it was Aretha Franklin and other times it was Nina Simone. Our walls were always covered with art; it was a reflection of God’s opulence in the earth. When you go into a OASIS/Montagé • August 2019 19

features sanctuary you’re able to tell it’s a sanctuary not just because of the cross but also because it’s stained glass windows that’s a reflection of the art and culture at that time. as a pastor, tell us whom do you admire the most and why? The person I admire the most is my grandfather Bishop Harrison James Bryant who at 23 years of age went to the 7th grade. He was the tallest in the class and oldest but was committed to education and in spite of starting late put himself through Wilberforce University and then theological seminary. He was the very first in my family to receive a doctorate degree. I’m very proud of the legacy that he left for our family and I always want to uphold the values that he imparted; I am proud to be carrying his name as Jamal Harrison Bryant. if you had one piece of advice to share with the younger generation of african-american men, what would you say? I would say to African American men do not allow culture to define your manhood but find your identity in your family history. Research the men in your family find not just their accomplishments but also their failures and build on it. Realize that you are in fact a torchbearer for the next generation. Remember, the generations yet unborn are going to be looking for your model; let them find not just your failure but also your success!

what is the future for pastor Jamal bryant? The future of Pastor Jamal Bryant is absolutely unknown because a year ago I would have had no earthly I do idea that I wouldn’t be living in Baltimore or pastoring Empowerment Temple. I did not know that I would be living in Atlanta pastoring New Birth Missionary Church. So literally not as a cliché or tongue-in-cheek my future is in the hands of God. how can we learn more about your platform with new birth Missionary baptist church? How can we learn more about New Birth Missionary Baptist Church? The very first way you can do it is to come to New Birth! It can’t be explained it can only be experienced. THE 2019

ESSENCE FESTIVAL 25th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION by Carolyn Jones

the 2019 essenCe Festival presented by CoCa-Cola this year for the 25th anniversary attracted more than half a million nationwide attendees to New Orleans. As always, it is held the Fourth of July weekend. The 25th anniversary had seven 2020 Presidential candidates who joined Power Stage at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The interview with Cory Booker was great. He had a lot to stand on to include reparations for the African Americans. Should Blacks receive reparations? that completely sold-out. It was an amazing interview with host, Gayle King and Michelle was real. She literally told it all. She spoke on her personal life married to the man then married to the president. She even spoke about going from a normal living in Chicago to the transition of the royal palace White House. The transition was to be the same for the children in an effort to bring normality. She even spoke about the exit and entrance with number 45. What a lady she is and now a number 1 selling author. “The 25th anniversary ESSENCE Festival represented a truly transformative global homecoming celebration for Black women and the Black community,” says ESSENCE Chief Executive Officer Michelle Ebanks. “This year’s extraordinary turnout reflects ESSENCE’s uniquely powerful engagement of Black women around personal empowerment, community, and culture as only ESSENCE can. With the debut of 10 new Festival experiences, activations at more than 40 venues

across New Orleans, and engagement with more than 300 small businesses and local vendors, we have redefined the Festival as the largest and most impactful destination at the epicenter of Black culture.” Ebanks continued, “Lastly, in honor of us embodying all that Black excellence and culture represent beyond entertainment and beauty, we were thrilled to reveal the Festival’s official rebrand to the ‘ESSENCE Festival of Culture,’ with a mission to inform, inspire and uplift Black women and provide a holistic approach to how we offer and deliver Black culture in every way.” There is nothing like the Essence Festival. The performances of celebrity artist are absolutely amazing. Every year I look forward to Mary J. Blige. She puts so much into every song she sings. The ESSENCE Festival is definitely a Girl’s Trip where a multitude of women come together and have fun, fun, fun and burn up together in the 100-degree weather in the sun. The Healing Heart of

What are Friends? • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

you can trust won’t hurt your feelings intentionally, but be kind and respectful will choose to love you dependable, loyal and have joy when spending time will be there no matter what is going on can trust to tell the truth, even when it’s hard to be honest laugh together cry together joyful smiles accepts you, listens to you with good and bad allows you to grow while being mindful give advice without judgment will bring chicken noodle soup when you’re sick will read the bible and pray for your healing will care and help you until resolution

In 1978, there were 2 little girls that walked to school together, had sleep overs, jump roped, played jacks, marbles and hopscotch. They kept secrets even in mischief but protected one another. They grew up together knowing life challenges would one day separate them. They encountered boyfriends, marriage and family but kept a lifetime bond and healing heart to remain forever friends. Through the years, they lost contact but vowed to keep the forever friendship bond. From being childhood friends living in Colorado to family moves to include ones overseas, they maintained the knowledge they would keep the faith to one day come together again. After more than 8 years of no contact, God’s amazing grace brought friends back together. When uniting, they found to have very similar family lives; they were both married to pastors. They both have similar medical conditions; Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis. Although the illnesses have no cure, God has been their source of a healing heart that maintains them as forever friends.

WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH By Sparkle Moore

THE ORGANIzATION, “OASIS SPEAKS,” IS A NONPROFIT organization. This organization helps victims of domestic violence receive counseling, and provide resources for support while victims go through transition of stability. The organization provides trainings and motivational speaking. They provide trainings for safety planning, community resources, restraining orders, mentorship, court advocacy and provide counseling for families. Carolyn Jones is a motivational speaker for Oasis Speaks. Moore’s presentations relate to her personal story of being a survivor of domestic violence and her life after abuse. Jones says, “In my daily walk, I stay close to the Lord and I Let your light so shine before men that they may see my Good works and Glorify Him which is in Heaven.” Matt 5:16. Although Moore had a horrible abusive past, she knows her testimony will help others. She has turned her abuse into a positive tool to educate and empower victims to find refuge and a safe haven. Carolyn’s presentations include skits and full theatrical productions about domestic violence. Her most recent production, Angel’s Palace, a true story, and Women Shoptalk while Real Men Wait, is Jones violence domestic story. The Journey

Oasis Montagé Celebrates Reaching Beyond the Magazine By Carolyn Moore Photos by DMS Creative Solutions: Dana Scott

While taking a spiritual walk on the beach, the sky is clear and the ocean is turquoise blue. As the seagulls pass you by, there are footprints in the sand that all belong to you. The prints are the new journey of Oasis Montagé guiding you through. In deep meditation, you realize these footprints are all brand new Some have said, “Why do you work so hard, this is silly.” Take a closer look and you’ll see a new journey of peace and tranquility

2010 WAS THE START OF THE Oasis Montagé Magazine. The magazine “that takes you on a lifestyle journey into fashion, arts, entertainment, health, beauty, fitness and cultural views.” In 2010, the Oasis Montagé staff consisted of 5 women: Carolyn Moore, Wendy Johnson, Gwen Moore, Brandi Bazinet and 1 male, Lance Robinson; all of Fayetteville, NC. This staff had no idea where they were headed and how to make their dreams a reality, but they did it. After the first publication and an interview with Shemar Moore, the journey began. It was the lights, cameras and action that took the Oasis Montagé journey into reality. Even though I as the Founder encountered military moves, Oasis continued to grow.
