From the Head Golf Pro

Dear Oakwood Members,

As spring arrives, we are thrilled to see the weather warming up and the grass turning green. Brent and his team have been working tirelessly on the tree maintenance and the new bunker constructions throughout the course to provide us with the best possible playing experience. As golfers, there are little things we can do to help, such as fixing ball marks, filling divots with sand, and following the daily cart rules

Here are a few things to keep in mind for when you are playing at Oakwood:

Reminders

Pace of Play: Always allow faster groups to play through, as this is our top priority

Golf Reservation Times: To ensure a smooth experience, please contact the Golf Shop to let them know when you are planning on playing This way we can be ready upon arrival

Golf Carts: Keep carts on the path around tees and greens, and remember not to drive over curbs or restricted areas

Dress Code: Proper golf attire is a must on the course and at practice facilities.

Please refrain from wearing jeans, tank tops, cargo shorts, gym shorts, or T-shirts

Checking In: Notify the golf shop upon arrival on the property, even if you're just

practicing on the range

Always contact the golf shop before starting on #10

We look forward to seeing you soon,

From the Director of Instruction

Dear Oakwood Members,

Wow, I can’t believe I am entering into my third season here at Oakwood! As a golf professional this is one of my favorite times of year Yes, the weather is still dicey, however the buzz and excitement for the season is always high as we are climbing our way out of Winter

It is a belief of mine that as the leader of the Oakwood Golf Performance department I should not only provide best in class coaching but always be on the lookout for ways to elevate all facets for the department. Listed below are examples that have recently taken place or are to come in 2024.

Titleist Regional Fitting Center | Oakwood is one of five in the country

Hired Dr Matt Stensrud as an in house Performance Coach he is a Physical Therapist &TPI Certified he brings a unique skill set to help golfers move and play better

Hosted the Midwest PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit | 52 regional PGA Professionals were in attendance with TWO top 100 Teaching Professionals as presenters

PGA Show | I travel to this event every January for continuing education & networking but also to make sure Oakwood is up to date with the latest and greatest technology and training aids on the market I have already made some small additions to the Performance Center and can’t wait to share what’s on the horizon

Various Guest Instructors will be in from around the country to visit Oakwood in 2024.

Oakwood University | A monthly educational series free to the Oakwood members, more details to come

In addition, I was excited to release the initial group class offerings last month. I am still getting a pulse on the wants and needs for Adult & Junior clinics so please never hesitate to reach out with suggestions or any questions you might have. Also, be sure to continually reference the Oakwood website/app for anything regarding group or private lessons, club-fitting, workout offerings, etc

In closing, I want to share with all of you that I am honored to lead the Oakwood Golf Performance department and to be a small part of this special club. Coaches coach and to be able to come to a place every day that allows me to coach our members, other golfers from the area and our own staff members is truly a blessing It is my hope to build a culture here at Oakwood that everyone from around the country desires to model

Thank you for allowing me to dream big and be a member of the close Oakwood family.

OAKWOOD GOLF PERFORMANCE with Maureen

Do you have a party to host?

How about a networking event for clients? The possibilities are endless with our state of the art facility.

We have members hosting open houses during March Madness, The Masters and other various events.

If you want to host a clinic and happy hour for your team or clients, we can do that too.

We will customize to fit your needs. Just shoot me an email and let’s make it happen.

COACHES CORNER

at the OPC with Coach Mo

Do you practice with a purpose? Every ball you hit on the range, short game area or the putting green should be intentional.

Take back ownership of your time at the range or short game area. Instead of constantly chasing or changing based upon shot you hit.

An easy way to do this... define the shot.

Drill Ball | Results don’t matter, you are working on a drill , a motion, something new...you are exploring.

Performance Ball | Results do matter...this should look like you are on the course: picking a target, pre-shot routine & post shot routine.

Strength Training

Did you know that strength training will not only improve your distance with the driver, but it can improve your distance control with putting? Check out these stats!

Why does strength training help distance control with putting? Many golfers don't have sufficient balance and single-leg strength during their initial assessment. It is well known that strength training improves balance and stability which results in more distance with the driver. Putting this can be even more beneficial because strength and balance in the lower body create a steady stance which results in more center face contact during lag putts. Less toe and heel strikes with the putter results in improved distance control.

Don't wait to get in for your assessment with Dr. Matt and learn how you can get stronger to help your game!

From the Food and Beverage Director

Dear Oakwood Members,

As we embark upon a new and exciting season here at Oakwood, I would like to thank everyone for the warmest welcome!

From day one, I have felt a sincere reception from the phenomenal staff It is clear that the team has been built with intention and care What I noticed immediately, is that everyone wants to be here, and that is a great feeling. In my 30 years of Food & Beverage experience that is very difficult to find, and this is what sets us apart from other clubs

The commitment I’ve made to this new chapter in my life here at Oakwood I take very seriously I intend to put everything I have into elevating Oakwood to being the very best it can be for all of you I’ve only met a small fraction of the membership in my first few weeks, but I’m looking forward to meeting each of you!

At this time, I would like to announce that Stuart Mast has been promoted to our new Beverage Director this season We are very fortunate to have his experience and dedication I was able to watch him in action at our highly successful Valentine’s Day dinner and was very impressed His knowledge of craft cocktails, his swift manner of service, and how wonderful he is with every single member were exceptional His dashing personality behind the bar is a great asset to our club! I’m looking forward to seeing what new creative ideas Stu has up his sleeve for us this season.

Spring is here and Chef Travis Napier and his talented team have put together some new dinner specials on the weekends for all to come and experience. We have Fried Chicken Night, Build Your Own Pasta, and the March Madness Wine Dinner coming up soon! Don't forget our very special Easter Brunch with an Eggstravaganza Hunt for the kids on March 31st

I hope to get the chance to meet many more members at these upcoming events! This is going to be a remarkable season at Oakwood, and I am thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful club

Grounds Update

DEAROAKWOODMEMBERS,

2024 has started with a flurry of activity on the golf course. The January snow and deep freeze put a hold on course improvements, however, once the warm weather in February arrived many projects wereabletostart Inthelastmonthtreeremovals, bunkeradditions, and memorial water fountain projects have started All of these projectswillimprovetheOakwoodexperience.

Tree pruning and removals are underway and on track to be completed in March The goal of the tree program is to improve the turf-growing environment and allow room for course improvements. There are several areas that I can already tell we are going to see improvementsindrainage, turfquality, andbetterplayingconditions due to the increased sunlight A good example is the end of two fairway

You may have noticed work going on by the putting course and putting cottage. A new water feature is being added as a fitting memorial for Stephen Block The water feature will have cascading water over rock features that lead to calm pools Benches will be around the feature to enjoy the beauty and will add to the putting course.

The par three golf course has weathered the cold winter nicely. The greens are slowly growing in and look great every time I pull the coversback.Goodgrowingweatherisneededforthegolfcourseand native areas to grow and mature The snow in January has filled the ponds on holes 2 and 7 adding another touch of beauty and challengetothecourse.

All the activities and improvements going on at Oakwood are going to make for an exciting 2024 golf season I cannot wait to see how it turnsout
