Volunteering has become more difficult than it has ever been before. Leaving our homes and interacting with others is not really an option for Key Club members at the moment due to concerns regarding the current global pandemic. Our club’s project chairs and the division was still able to find ways for us to volunteer while staying safe and practicing social distancing. My favorite event of the month was the FreeRice service project where members got the chance to volunteer through a screen. The concept of the app is to answer questions from different categories such as the English vocabulary, the multiplication tables, different languages, etc for sponsors to donate the cash equivalent of 10 grains of rice to the World Food Programme, who will use it to save lives. This was a great way for members to gain hours since they are feeding many people around the world who are struggling which is very crucial, especially in hard times like these. The last week of May was our Division Service Week where members could earn hours depending on the time it takes for them to complete an activity. Personally, Mental Health Monday has been my favorite day of the week so far because of the message it spreads. Being stuck at home is never fun and may often lead to feelings of loneliness or intense boredom which is why taking care of your mental health should always be a priority. For the first time in a while, I sat down at my desk, pulled out my markers and began to draw. After completing my drawing, it gave me the chance to reflect on how important selfcare is and why I needed to continue doing it more often. Since summer has finally started, many students, including myself, are beginning to unwind a little bit and focus on taking better care of themselves than their grades.
