D30SBanquet:EndofanEra

D30S Banquet is an annual event that marks the end of the term for the outgoing officers andthe startof the term for the new officers. Although OAKC has already had our banquet and ourfairshareofsayinggoodbye to seniors, D30S had its banquet Saturday, April 29. Reflecting on my Key Club journey, this is the first “normal” D30S banquet I have attended, with the only other D30S banquet being online. As the term ended and D30S seniors gave their “goodbye” speeches, I can look forwardtomeetingandbonding withnewofficers.

I cannotexpresshowincredibleandsurrealtheexperience thatKeyClubhasprovidedmethispastyearwas Iforged unforgettablememoriesthispastyear, frommakingnew friends to serving my community to attending several division events. I’ve been able to provide service, build character, and develop my leadership - three things that the mission statement of Key Club emphasizes. Initially, I was doubtful of whether I was truly qualified for this position. However, with the encouragement of both theoldandnewboardsofKeyClubalongwith my friends, I felt uplifted and my confidence rose to new heights

At the banquet, I had the opportunitytogettoknowsome of my fellow board members more and rekindle friendships with Key Clubbers from other schools as well There were times when I laughed so hard my face turned red and many secrets were spilled. Although it issadtomarktheendofanera, allinall, I am looking forward to thenewtermandwhatthisnew term has to offer because Key Club feels like it is coming back fromthedead!

Actually, that’s what I love about Key Clubthemost:thecommunityandthe peoplewhocontributetotheclub They are the ones who make Key Club the magnificent organization that it is today. They are the ones that fostered my growth and allowed me to take on things that I would have never dreamed of doing. It’s truly incredible howyourpeersandfriendscanbe sosupportiveandimpactful

Without their help, I would be quite puzzled about where to start However, Angela and I have already planned 4 events for Key Club for May, and we have aspirations that we can continue pumpingoutthoseeventsforthe members to attend I assure you that we will work diligently to fulfill our duties and contribute our share to the club in order to make this term a memorable and successful one All I havetosayistokeepshiningSuns!

CHARITY MILES

IvyNguyen

A popular online service event that catches the interest of many Key Club members, including myself, is Charity Miles. Charity Miles is an app thatcanbedownloadedonallmobiledevicesto track an individual's physical activity. Depending on the distance a user walks/runs/bikes, Charity Miles makes charitable donations,roughlytwenty-fivecentspermilefor walkers/runnersandtencentspermileforbikers.

AssomeonewhohasbeeninKeyClub, aswell asastudent-athleteatOxfordAcademysince freshman year, Charity Miles has been an easily accessible way for me to demonstrate my appreciation and dedication toward my community while maintaining an active lifestyle. I can easily sync my Charity Miles account to the Health app on my phone, so whenever I begin a workout on my Apple Watch, it automatically syncs with Charity Miles.AmajorityofmyservicehoursfromKey Club have come from Charity Miles alone, which adds up to about a total of thirty-six hours!

Essentially, Charity Miles is a convenient and stress-free opportunity for users to take action in their communities to aid many organizations in funding and research for specific causes. Key Club’s purpose is to provide service and build citizenship and character, while also improving the lives of larger communities. Through community service and volunteering, Key Club can mold its members into exceptional leaders who are passionate about improving people’s daily lives.

BROOKHURSTPANTRY

One of the first Key Club events I attended was the Brookhurst Pantry Food Distribution. After consistently volunteering at the pantry for a full year, it has now become one of my favorite serviceeventsandpartofmybiweeklyroutine

Brookhurst Pantry Food DistributionishostedbyDwelling Place Anaheim and takes place every other Saturday from 8 AM to 11 AM Volunteers are always welcome, as it takes full teamwork and cooperation to bag various food items, compile theminshoppingcarts, andhaul themintohundredsofcars

The thing I love most about Brookhurst Pantry is the people –the Key Clubbers, Dwelling Place volunteers, and the families we serve.Itfeelsamazingtobe surrounded by people with the same passion and love for service – people who are willing to get up at 7 AM on a Saturday morning, workthreehoursinpouringrain,or haul heavy boxes in the scorching sun. Brookhurst Pantry is an amazing community of volunteers who are happy to make a difference As the summer rolls around, make sure to give this eventatry!

WHY YELLOW SUITS KEY CLUB

AngelIzelo

Yellow is most commonly associated with optimism, energy, joy, happiness, and friendship Encapsulating the happy and memorable parts of life. These are also adjectives that describe Key Club. Although every division has its ownsignaturecolor,KeyClubas awholehasyellowasoneofits signaturecolors.

However, division 30 South specifically suits the color yellow Division 30 South, otherwise known as the Suns, shines and radiates with bright yellow colors. Our division is always energetic, optimistic, and happy From my time in KeyClub,Imostdefinitelymade some new friends along the way and always felt energetic whenever I went to a division event or simply participated in myclub’sevent.Everyoneinour division is inviting and positive, therehasnotbeenatimewhen I haven’t talked to someone newatadivisionevent.

Just like a Sun, we are all so bright and happy. Never a dull momentinKeyClub, everything is always changing and people arealwaysjoining.KeyClubjust radiates warmth. The sun is yellow, and we are the suns so, therefore, we must represent whatasundoestoourbest. People may say yellow is a bright ugly color, but I believe yellow is a bright pretty color because it represents somethingmorethanjustbeing brightandobnoxious.

KEYCLUBDISTRICTS&DIVISIONS101

AngelaTran

What significance do “divisions”haveintheKeyClub community and what even are they in the first place? In Key Club, divisionsareoverseenbya designated district. These districts are typically defined by stateornation.

Districts are led by a governor that are elected to the position

For Oxford Academy, we are under CNH District (CaliforniaNevada-Hawaii) and D30sSuns division. Currently, there are 33 districts with the possibility of one forming. There are 4 levels of governance, District, Region, Division, and Club These communities of districts are dividedbydivisionswithin.

Divisionsareanareaofschools which are put into regions, or groups.

To determine your division, it depends on the area you are in/the school you attend to. Sinceeachdivisionisalsolikea sub-unit of the district and have a similar structure of leadership positions. The divisions have lieutenant governors, whoareresponsible for upholding Key Club policies and providing support to the multiple clubs within their division. The lieutenant governor (LTG) also manages the communication between the district and club. In our instance, Austin Alves is our lieutenant governor and he’d oversee communicating with CNHbacktoD30sSuns’clubs.

The significance of Divisions is because it is a bridge to meetingnewKeyClubbersfrom other schools and divisions/regions Mostdivisions host divisional rallies/events which allows socializing, while also taking part on service projects and forming a strong community. These divisions help Key Clubbers from all over thestateestablishthosestrong connections and experience core memories with new people/friends. Events such as Fall Rally South bring Key Clubbers together to share a prideful moment with their divisioninspiritbattlesandalso seeotherdivision’shardworking chants too. It is a colorful community for that day where people are gathered to also celebratetheirhardwork.
