SUMMER SOCIAL Kenny Le | 12 | Vice President
John F. Kennedy. A city in central England. The Latinization of the Greek κυπάρισσος. What do these all have in common?? They are all the namesakes of the schools who participated in our Division’s first social! Planning this social took a lot more effort than I expected. To be frank, online socials are a lot harder to navigate than one would imagine. We ran into problems Every. Single. step of the way. Since this is the first social any of us had ever planned, we did not know how to properly fill in the information for the ERF, causing many headaches. Furthermore, the platform to use for the social was up to debate too. We were originally going to only have two schools do the social on Instagram live, then it turned into all three, then it went from Instagram Live to Google Meets after Google Meets became free. What a mess! After having to create an interest form, find chaperones, send chaperones, create activities, create a Kahoot, and 20 other things that we had to do because of the fact that it was an online social, we were finally ready to go. For what It’s worth, in my opinion, considering the fact that the social was online, I would consider it a success! Honestly, just having a social during this pandemic, to me, is a great success. However, having more than 50 members attend, having little to no technology problems as the social went along, and having members tell me how much fun they had makes me happy. Obviously, there were a lot of variables that we could not control. We really tried our best to form groups that would mesh well. However, considering the fact that we didn’t know each other’s members, didn’t know how many people were comfortable talking, and the fact that psychologically online meetings are a lot more awkward than in real life meetings, keeping everybody happy was hard. But, maybe I’m biased, I really feel like this social worked out amazingly.
