PHASE ONE

OSA Uptown Art Park

A vision to transform the City of Oakland’s Lot 4 at 1911 Telegraph into a thriving, outdoor, community resource.

PURPOSE

To activate the property at 1911 Telegraph Avenue 8-16 hours daily through intentional programming that best serves OSA and Oakland youth.

OSA has leased the property and engaged with other anchor partners to make tenant improvements that will utilize the space for physical education classes, recreation, and outdoor performances.

GOALS

• Create a safe, secure place for OSA students to engage in planned physical education classes;

• Create space for OSA students to go for recess and during lunch periods that is outdoors, safe, and supervised;

• Provide a turf field and open space for free play during class breaks and for local community organizations to provide inclusive sports programming;

• Create an outdoor performance space for theater, concerts, and recitals;

• Incorporate speciality activities such as a skateboard area, soccer field, and basketball courts; and

• Revitalize a vacant lot in Uptown Oakland to beautify the area and enhance the Uptown experience for the community at large.

ACTIVITIES

Phase One of the OSA Uptown Arts Park project is to transform the empty lot into an immediately functional space for OSA and community purposes. With completion of Phase One, OSA students will finally have access to adequate and safe outdoor recreational space and, through agreement with OSA, our anchor partners can begin to use the space for youth programming in the non-school hours.
