Letter from OSA’s Executive Director and Board Chair Dear OSA Friends, In the 2024-25 academic year, OSA’s theme was “CIRCLE.” Together, we explored how, like a circle, we are inherently connected to all aspects of life, creativity, community, and art. Throughout the year, we journeyed through thematic explorations of life cycles, the universe, time traveling, the cosmos, rituals, and relationships. For 23 years, OSA has focused on our mission, with students at the center of all we do. As a result, our circle of partners is strong, growing, and poised to sustain our success. Here are just a few of the achievements from 2024-25 that we are proud to share with you:

• OSA had the highest enrollment in its history, at 820+ students in grades 6-12; • 96% of our Class of 2025 graduated and, of those, 89% went directly to college, while others entered the workforce or took a gap year; • Through more than 50 performances, concerts, and exhibits, students expressed their opinions on their place in the local community, the nation, and the world; and • Our Parent Teacher Student Association grew to nearly 300 members, a testament to our families’ connection to the school, and to its future. We are also excited to share that OSA entered into a lease-to-purchase agreement to acquire the Dufwin Theater building, one block from our main campus at the Fox Theater. The Dufwin will eventually become the home for 8 of our 10 arts pathways, and a hub of artistic collaboration.

Finally, we continued to prioritize student wellness. In 2025, we added OSA’s first ever outdoor space with Phase I of the OSA Uptown Art Park. This summer, we cleared and graded a one-acre parcel, installing an athletic field and adding an area with benches and umbrellas. What was a quiet, vacant lot is now filled with students playing soccer, going to physical education classes, and enjoying recess. As we reflect on 2024-25, we want to thank you for believing in the essential value of the arts. We know that it not only impacts our students today, but that it grounds them in confidence, collaborative skills, and creative problem solving that will serve them as they continue their journeys throughout OSA and beyond. What we lack are sufficient facilities and outdoor recreational space. Student Fundraisers Isadora Oznowicz, Maya Weber, Reeghan Walsh Raised $10,000+ during the Strength in Numbers promotion Just one block from OSA’s primary campus in the Fox Theater and two blocks from OSA’s future Uptown Art Park, the Dufwin adds an anchor arts facility to our campus.

A NNUA L FUND The Annual Fund directly supports OSA’s arts programs and faculty, student wellness, after-school programming, technology, facility maintenance, and upgrades. While 83% of our funding comes from state and federal grants and contracts, we rely on donations to fund a significant part of our operating budget. With a longer school day that fully integrates the arts, OSA’s program costs exceed $4 million annually. During the 2025 fiscal year, parents, grandparents, friends, and alumni embraced our equity-driven giving approach to help us raise over $760,000, with 2,683 contributions from nearly 1,500 donors. We are grateful for each and every donation. As a community, we have strength in numbers. As a parent, I feel incredibly lucky that my kids have had such an inspiring high school experience at OSA. They flourished both artistically and socially, and their confidence grew in ways only this kind of community can nurture. ALUMNI SP OTL I GHT Oakland Rising is a collective of top emerging artists from Oakland, dedicated to sharing the stage, honoring the city’s legendary cultural legacy, and bringing light to this world through its undeniable talent and uplifting spirit (Oaklandrisingband.com). On its first East Coast tour, the group featured two OSA alumni and a current OSA student:

B. DeVeaux (guitar, bass, cajon), a neo-soul singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores themes of self-love, healing, and courageous vulnerability; August Lee Stevens (guitar, piano), who blends folk, soul, and jazz into lush, emotive storytelling that bridges generations and genres; and Naima Nascimento/NAIMA (guitar/violin), a 15-year-old emerging artist and current OSA student who brings her powerful voice and poetic depth to the next wave of Oakland’s musical renaissance.

While on the tour, they performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Reflecting on their time on stage there, the group shared: “Right now we are all being asked to figure out how we want to show up in this world—and as artists who were brought together to bring our spirit into challenging circumstances, we feel like this is where we are supposed to be.” Together, they represent the heart of what OSA stands for: artists using their gifts to inspire, connect, and lead with love.

Summer Arts Academy In 2025, OSA held its fourth annual Summer Arts Academy, serving 188 students ages 9-16 from all over the Bay Area. The Summer Arts Academy provided engaging, hands-on art experiences throughout the month of June. OSA’s stellar arts faculty, who are also working artists, led workshops in a number of areas, including musical theater, dance, fashion design, filmmaking, video game design, vocal music, and audio production and design. By attending the Summer Arts Academy, many 6th graders who planned to start school at OSA got the chance to get to know OSA and its arts faculty ahead of the new school year. At the end of each session, parents attended standing-room-only student showcases of performances and exhibits. OSA relies on its partners to make it possible to offer a select number of full or partial scholarships to the summer program each year. Generous donors that supported the 2025 Summer Arts Academy included: Pixar Animation Studios, the San Francisco Symphony, and the RECARE Foundation.

College Acceptances Congratulations to the Class of 2025! The following is a list of colleges and universities where OSA graduates were accepted and are attending. OSA’s Class of 2025 graduation rate was 96%. Of this graduating class, 89% are attending 2- or 4-year postsecondary programs, while others will take a gap year or enter the workforce. 100% of students who chose to apply to postsecondary programs received acceptance letters. Note: In 2024-25, OSA received a one-time, $2,339,562 disbursement based on our application for the federal Employee Retention Credit (ERC). Our ability to claim this tax credit was based both on the partial suspension of operations due to an order from a government authority and our decision to keep all 110 of our employees fully employed during the COVID pandemic shutdown. The credit was available to eligible employers that paid qualified wages to some or all employees after March 12, 2020, and before January 1, 2022. The receipt of these tax credit funds allowed us to partially replenish our depleted reserves, increase financial stability, and cover unexpected expenses.

OSA continues to invest in its highly qualified faculty and staff and provide students with access to reliable, creative technology tools. At the same time, OSA faces the need for expanded and improved facilities. Taken together, these realities mean operational costs are rising each year.
