Degree-level Courses

You can achieve a degree here with us at NWSLC. Our titles may look different to universities, but you can still stay local and gain a degree. A HNC is equivalent to the first year of a degree, HNDs and foundation degrees to the first two years of a degree, and our top-up courses are equivalent to the third year, and once you’ve completed that, you will be awarded with a degree from one of our University partners. Here are some of the reasons why students choose to study with us:
Studying a higher education course with us is exceptional value for money and up to 30% less than at a university. Students can apply to Student Finance to pay for their course and apply for the maintenance grant, just like at university.
Many students choose to study with us as we are local to them. Our campuses are easy to access by public transport and some students find that it minimises impact on other aspects of their life such as childcare, family commitments and those with part-time jobs.
Listening to our students is important to us. That is why we champion the HE student council, created a HE student ambassador academy and received a great rating on the National Student Survey for student satisfaction.
Many of our staff have worked in industry or continue to practice in their specialist subject area, and therefore are in a great place to share industry knowledge.
We are registered and regulated by the Office for Students (the regulatory body for Higher Education in England) and meet all ongoing conditions of registration, including meeting all expectations for quality and standards.
We have long-standing partnerships with two universities, including Coventry University and The University of West London. We have a validated provision, which enables our students to top-up to a full level six degree in some subject areas.
Programmes are designed with the support and help of employers and very much with industry in mind. Students are taught the right skills for the industry that they wish to enter. Placements and work experience are also readily available on our HE courses.
Unlike universities, our group sizes are quite small and just right to offer individual support and guidance.
Starting life as a Higher Education student is an exciting time and provides access to lots of new benefits and groups. You will also be eligible to receive a Totum card. By signing up, you will have access to a range of discounts and offers from high street brands and online retailers. You will also have access to:
• Student centres at each campus
• Free gym membership at our Nuneaton and Wigston Campuses
• Stay active with a range of classes including archery, boxing, football, rugby, table tennis and Zumba plus many more. All levels of experience are welcome
• The Student Union which represents you and organises a range of events throughout the year
• A range of clubs and societies including art, cooking, drama, gaming, LGBTQ+ plus many more
Our HE team have been working hard to listen to students. Last year a representative visited each group of students three times over the year to ask them for feedback.
As part of Student Voice, we discuss things such as assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management of the course, resources, teaching on the course, learning and student opportunities. Hearing what you have to say is important to us and we always aim to improve.
Most applications for Higher Education courses are taken through UCAS, our institution code is N79.
Many educational institutions encourage applications to be submitted by mid-January. This is called the equal opportunities deadline and is set by UCAS. NWSLC does accept applications after this deadline and will always aim to be fair in assessing all applications.
Need support with writing your application? From proofing your statement to helping with applications for student finance, our team is on hand to help.

“My tutor is amazing, I feel like I’m getting 1-to-1 support and the small class sizes help. I don’t think I could have done this if I did it through a university. NWSLC gives me the same degree qualification as I would get at university, but I get tailored support and personalised sessions.”
“I have gained many technical skills; I am able to think on my feet and I have built up my directory of films that I have looked at and analysed.”
“I found my passion was in make-up and started exploring it more as a hobby. I then realised I could turn my hobby into a career. It was meeting Leanne and Lucy which made me want to go to NWSLC to do my degree - because they were so welcoming and made make-up even more exciting.”
