FOUNDATION LEARNING AND SUPPORTED INTERNSHIPS

Foundation Learning exists to support young people in developing essential skills to access further education, employment and training. The programmes are flexible and based on individual starting points, personal goals and ambitions.

We will develop learners’ essential skills such as independence, confidence, employability, and wellbeing, whilst also adding Maths, English and other vital skills.

We are a starting point for learners and a stepping stone to vocational courses, employability, volunteer work or a Supported Internship. Although not an exclusive checklist, foundation students usually have one of the following needs/traits: in possession of an EHCP, have SEND/Neurodiverse traits, anxious and unable to enter ‘mainstream’ education in the wider college.

There are a number of pathways a young person joining us may take. You could go straight into a supported internship with one of our partner employers, such as ASDA, The George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton Signs or Tesco. Alternatively, you could join one of our foundation programmes; Road to Independence, Thriving in the Community, Road to Vocation, or Lifeworks. The route for each student will be different, and we will support you in making sure you are on the right pathway.

I would recommend studying at NWSLC. The internship has given me confidence to learn new skills.

I love working here.
