The parents of 22-month-old Amandla Ziqubu are mourning the sudden loss of their daughter, who died at the Little Innocence Day Care Centre in Goodwood
According to Western Cape Education Department (WCED) spokesperson Millicent Merton, the cause of death was still under investigation and the autopsy report had not yet been finalised
“According to the information received the facility is not registered with the WCED,” she said “A team has been established to conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the death at the facility ” Merton confirmed that the day care did not appear on the WCED's database of unregistered facilities currently in the process of registration She added that the department had not previously received any complaints, warnings or incident reports concerning the centre When the WCED becomes aware of unregistered day-care facilities it works with a Social Service Organisation

This was the main message shared with a group of women at a Women's Day event held on Friday 15 August at the Lighthouse Christian Centre in Voortrekker Road, Parow, by keynote speaker Rachel Marcus from Radio Tygerberg 104FM
Marcus shared her life-story with the women and where she came from She encouraged women to put their past behind them, to not be defined by their past or their mistakes, but to move forward
She explained how she became a young single mother at 19 years, the loss of her husband in 2011 and her relationship with a drug addict Marcus further encouraged women not to wear a mask, reminded them that God can see right through it, and emphasised that they should not let people define who they are Kim Appollis from the non-profit organisation John 617, another guest speaker, also encouraged women to put their past behind them and said that no matter what you have been through or are facing today, as a woman you have the power to rise above it
"As women, we are often expected to be caregivers, nurturers and selfless But I want to remind you that self-care is not selfish, it is essential Take care of yourself, prioritise your well-being and invest in your own being
"Let us rise up, lets shatter the chains of oppression, break the cycles of pain and forge our own paths Let us celebrate our wins, support each other's journeys and uplift one another's voices," she said To those struggling with addiction, she

The Parow Community Policing Forum (CPF) has said it is deeply concerned about the act of violence which played out on Friday 15 August in the area in which an adult male lost his life
"We do not condone any form of violence in our community, and we stand firmly in support of efforts to ensure safety, justice, and peace for all residents
"Incidents like this are a stark reminder of the challenges we face and the urgent need for continued collaboration between community members, local organisations, and law enforcement partners," said CPF chair Bronwin Daniels
Daniels was referring to the shooting incident in Francie van Zijl Drive, Parow in which a father was gunned down The incident occurred metres away from the
entrance to the Tygerberg Hospital
Daniels said the matter is currently under investigation and that as the CPF they are not in a position to comment on the details or speculate the possible motives She said however that as the CPF they urge anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to report it via the appropriate platforms
A similar call was made by the Western Cape police who is currently investigating the matter

He said the motive for the attack was believed to be gang-related and that the Parow police detectives had combed the crime scene for clues According to the
police the suspects fled in an undisclosed direction and had yet to be arrested Swartbooi said the police rushed to the scene at around 07:50, and on their arrival found the body of an adult male in a motor vehicle He had sustained gunshots The victim was declared dead on the scene According to media reports, the victim is identified as Tino "Oudste" Mentoor from Belhar, an alleged member of the Mobster gang The reports indicate that he had just dropped off his children at school when he came under attack Several photos of the crime scene were shared since on social media of the victim's car, a grey VW Polo, at a set of traffic lights, surrounded by police vehicles

Classical music returns
Classical music lovers are in for a treat as the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) unveils a vibrant new season of four Spring Symphony concerts at the Cape Town City Hall. Running from Thursday 28 August to Thursday 18 September, this series promises a rich blend of classical masterpieces, contemporary works, and exciting premieres.
The season will be led by internationally renowned conductors Daniel Raiskin and Martin Panteleev, with Charlene Verster taking the baton for a curtain-raiser during the final concert
The closing performance will also feature the world premiere of "The Silence of the Day", a song cycle by celebrated Cape Town composer Grant McLachlan.

The season launches on 28 August with a thrilling all-American programme Pianist Francois du Toit joins the CPO to perform George Gershwin’s "Concerto in F", conducted by Daniel Raiskin, music director of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of the Slovak Philharmonic.
The concert also includes Leonard Bernstein’s Candide overture and "Symphonic Dances" from West Side Story, alongside John Williams’s rousing "The Cowboys Overture".

It is a strange, almost unreal feeling to watch someone you love endure a grief so deep it seems to swallow them whole Two weeks ago, I watched my fiancé lose his mother, and I felt a pain unlike any I have ever known
It was not my mother, not my family, yet the weight of it pressed on me, leaving a hollowness I had never experienced before I wanted to reach out, to say the perfect words, to somehow ease the ache, but grief is not something that can be fixed with words And sympathy, however heartfelt, sometimes feels hollow when the loss is not your own I have been blessed to still have both my parents I have hugged them, laughed with them, shared the ordinary chaos of everyday life, and perhaps taken it all for granted Watching my fiancé navigate a world without his mother was a sudden, jarring reminder of how fragile life truly is Death does not send warnings, it does not schedule its arrivals at convenient times It comes uninvited, and the void it leaves is vast and echoing
Over the past week, I saw a man strong, capable, and loving confront the unimaginable: the absence of the one person who has been a constant presence in his life since birth His grief was raw and unfiltered, spilling into every corner of the room and touching everyone near him I wanted to comfort him, to hold him, to take away the sorrow, but I could only be there, quiet, present, a steady hand and listening heart
The pain was multiplied when I had to explain to our three-year-old that his “Ma” had gone to heaven The innocence of a child makes grief even more poignant His small face scrunched with confusion and disbelief “No,” he said repeatedly, “she went to work and will be back ”
