Can you believe it's almost the end of summer already? Time sure flies! But you know what that means - back-to-school season is just around the corner, and I've got some funny stuff to share with you about it.
I gotta admit, there's a part of me that's secretly thrilled about sending Allegra back to school ,But don't get me wrong, I love her to death, but a little break during school hours? Heck yeah! (I now talk like a American LOL!)
Oh, and speaking of back-to-school, it reminds me of a funny memory from my childhood. You won't believe it! So, picture this: the chaotic morning rush, trying to get everyone ready and out the door on time. I was still in bed, so my grandmother had mentioned that back in her time they used garlic in their underarms to get a “fever” and so I had the brilliant idea to follow her amusing story and so that 1st day of school in 3rd grade I was with my garlic and a “fever” and my cute “naive” mom followed my lead and acted as if she was played, so long story short I did not go to school that day but my sisters gave me a bunch of garlic in my pasta to pay me back. I sure did smell for days and days. Till this day we all have a good laugh about it.
Ok, back to the letter, we should also cherish that epic back-to-school shopping. The battle for the coolest backpack, sneakers and the endless debates over lunchboxes - it's like a full-contact sport for parents. But hey, it's all part of the fun, right?
We're about to dive into a new year of learning, growing, and connecting with other parents. PTA meetings, coffee chats at the bus stop - the camaraderie is real, people. Let's take a moment to appreciate the teachers too. Those superheroes deserve a round of applause for putting up with our kids day in and day out.
So, here's to embracing the changing season, saying goodbye to summer, and laughing our way through the back-to-school madness. Let's make it a memorable one!
Cheers!
Sincerely,

A wide collection of experiences ignited my passion for travel. I vividly remember a trip to Europe. It was a chilly morning in the heart of Paris, and I found myself strolling along the Seine, captivated by the city's timeless beauty. The aroma of freshly baked croissants wafted through the air, inviting
me to indulge my senses. I wandered into a charming café tucked away in a quaint alley, feeling like I had stumbled upon a secret haven.
Engulfed in a warm ambiance, I struck up a conversation with the café's owner, a distinguished gentleman with a twinkle in his eyes. He shared stories of his travels and how each journey had left an indelible mark on his soul. It was through his vivid storytelling that I discovered the transformative power of travel – the ability to create cherished moments that linger in the depths of our memories.

Yours in wanderlust,
Emmy Hoffmann Luxury Travel AdvisorYou may know Heather Murphy Capps without actually having met her. She is a published author who writes books for the middle grade audience. Or perhaps you know her from her passionate advocacy work for equity and inclusion in the public school space, as she happens to be the Dranesville representative for the Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee for the Fairfax County School Board. Or maybe, just maybe, you remember her from her 15 years as a television news journalist. But those are just three of the many hats, or should I say caps, that Heather has worn throughout her 56 years on this planet, eight of the last years during which she and her family have lived in the Broyhill Langley Estates. Heather resides with her husband of 20 years, Dudley Capps (56), and their two children, Nick and Bella.
Favorite TV Show: The West Wing
Favorite Book/Audiobook: Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese AND Indigo and Ida, by Heather Murphy Capps
Favorite thing to do in McLean: Hang out with friends at the Langley Club
Podcast: Kelly Corrigan Wonders
Movie: Dead Poets Society
Heather and Dudley met in Jacksonville, FL, at a bar in 2002. Heather elaborates, “A dear mutual friend had heard me talk about how I thought helicopter pilots were sexy— Dudley flew Apache helicopters—and our friend decided to introduce us.” As Heather soon discovered, Dudley got his start as an air traffic controller, but quickly realized he’d rather fly the planes than land them. After receiving his officer commission and finishing flight school, he found himself working full time with the Army National Guard and eventually was deployed to Afghanistan in 2003. The couple got married in a very small ceremony right before he deployed to Kandahar as an Apache company commander for the US Army’s 25th combat aviation brigade. When Dudley came home, they got married again, but this time it was a huge black-tie wedding complete with an Army Arch of Sabers and a gospel choir. Heather fondly remembers, “It was as much a celebration of our marriage as it was an expression of gratitude that even though he was there during one of the more dangerous periods of Operation Enduring Freedom, he didn’t lose any of the soldiers and aviators in his company.” Now, after 30 years of bleeding red, white and blue, Dudley's love of service and his rise to the ranks to Colonel, he will be retiring at the end of August.
Heather got her undergraduate degree in Political Science, with a concentration in Feminist Political Philosophy, from Bryn Mawr College. When she graduated, she thought she wanted to be a lawyer, but didn’t want to go straight from college into law school, so she spent nearly two years in Kenya, teaching English. She explains, “While I was there,
I realized that my natural inclination toward storytelling and public service would be better expressed by a career in journalism than by law. I wanted to tell the stories of people’s lives, to connect and inform.” She decided to pivot and soon received her Master’s in Journalism at Boston University. Shortly after, she launched a 15-year career as a television news journalist. She began behind the scenes as a producer with CBS News, but eventually realized she wanted to be on camera and worked the rest of her career at News 4/WJXTTV in Jacksonville, FL. Her journalistic focuses were military and politics as she was an embedded journalist covering the early days of the Iraq war as well as
many elections and political battles over the years. She made such an impression with her coverage of the 2005 mayoral election that she was soon asked by the new Mayor, John Peyton, to become his Press Secretary, which she did for one year before returning briefly to journalism. She describes her journalism experience saying, “This was a truly meaningful path for me, but when I started my family, I realized it was time to step away. This was a profound decision because it allowed me to return to an earlier goal: to be an author.”
Heather clearly states that her urge to write never really went away. She wrote her first book in 2013 and laughs, “as all writers will tell you, the first book
was awful.” Her next step was getting a literary agent, and subsequently wrote five books before landing the agent of her dreams. Her most recent book, Indigo and Ida, hit bookshelves in April and has garnered a lot of positive attnetion, including starred trade reviews. She is thrilled to say she has three books out now, with another releasing this time next year.
Heather’s niche is writing for middle grade readers, typically children from 5th-8th grade. She calls middle grade authorship a “slow burn.” She landed at this age range because she wanted to write for her own kids. She muses, “This age range is really smart, and they think pretty deeply. I love being a part of this
space with them.” Growing up, she never saw herself—a mixed race person-reflected in the books she read, so she feels passionate about being part of an expansion of characters children now find on the bookshelf. Beyond the books she’s written, she has had a wonderful time visiting schools to talk about becoming an author and what it takes to write a book. She hopes to do many more school visits in McLean and all over the country this fall! If you would like to learn more about Heather’s work, check out her website at www. HeatherMurphyCapps.com and her Instagram: @hmcwrites. Heather also teaches writing, public speaking and leadership to Federal employees at all government agencies through the Graduate School of America (GS-USA). Circling back to her advocacy work, Heather is the co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion PTSA committee for Langley High School, alongside her friend and close ally, Stefanie Stayin (who was part of McLean Living Magazine’s family feature in November 2022). Heather is a committed volunteer in both her children’s schools, and she feels very fortunate to have the time
for that work. Heather acknowledges, “Our public schools are the backbone of our community, and we are lucky to have smart, empathetic, experienced leadership across the board in our pyramid. Today’s educators have a daunting task: working with families to teach our children how to navigate an increasingly complex and often confusing world. I love being able to partner with and support our teachers and staff as they do this invaluable, but sadly undervalued work.”
One of the big projects Heather and Stefanie’s DEI committee has accomplished is called “DIVERSEartLANGLEY.” It is an annual art exhibit at Langley that asks for entries of all different types of artistic mediums to express the artist’s answers to a driving question; one that expresses identity and sparks conversation through the art. 2023’s question was “What’s Your American Story?” After the exhibit, the group partakes in a moderated discussion about the featured artwork. The goal of this event is to draw people into the conversation of inclusion, equity, and cultural competence.
One of the many reasons that Heather is drawn to this type of advocacy work is that her parent’s interracial marriage came before the 1967 Loving SCOTUS decision. “My mother is Black and my father was white. Their brave partnership was an inspiration to me and others as they blazed paths in integration and allyship.” Heather emphasizes, “That work, which means so much to me, is basically all I do when not raising my children, writing, and teaching.”
And on that topic, the Capps’ son, Nick, who attends Langley High School, plays baseball for the Langley Saxons. He’s a left-handed pitcher who’s been playing since he was six and he is in the recruitment process to play baseball in college after he graduates. He also enjoys studying psychology, lifting weights, and working at his job at the McLean Hardware Store.
Daughter, Bella, who will attend Cooper Middle School this fall, is a softball player for McLean Little League, and has also been playing since she was six. She loves the game and her teammates. She also plays flute (she’s currently enrolled in summer band camp) and
loves reading, writing, and art. She really enjoys experimenting with colors in her art and she painted canvases as gifts for her family during the Christmas season. She even designed and painted her own wrapping paper. Like her mother, she loves to write realistic fiction— who knows, there may be another author in the family!
The Capps family has one cat—a black, seven year old Main Coon rescue named Flynx. They recently lost their other rescue, a cat named Fuzzy Lu Who, who lived to nearly 20 years and was a beloved member of the family. They were heartbroken to say goodbye to her.
The family of four travels mostly to Florida to see Dudley’s family. They also take opportunities to vacation where Nick is playing baseball, so one of their memorable vacations was in upstate New York before he joined his travel team in Cooperstown. The kids fished, Heather read books, and they made s’mores in the fire pit. Another favorite baseball vacation was in Atlanta, where they enjoyed seeing the Atlanta Civil Rights Museum and eating at the Flying Biscuit Café. One of their favorite travel memories is from 2014 when they were living in Arizona. The family went to see the Grand Canyon and other amazing sites along Route 66. Heather recalls, “It was fascinating on so many levels, from the history and geology of the area to the scenic beauty, the fun walks, and of course singing ‘Get Your Kicks On Route 66’ on repeat. Each of us was able to appreciate and enjoy it all.”
The Capps family lived in the McLean area previously one other time for three years. “As a military family, we move a bit, but both times we’ve been stationed in this area, we’ve chosen to live in this neighborhood. We’re lucky that my husband was able to keep getting reassigned here since 2015 so we didn’t have to leave.” They specifically chose to live in the Broyhill Langley Estates because they knew people in the surrounding neighborhoods and that the schools were excellent. Their neighbors are among their closest friends. They consider it a close, supportive community and feel very fortunate that they have such a strong village.
Heather remarks, “I am always so grateful to live in a community where everyone looks out for each other and truly cares for each other’s welfare. My message is a hearty THANK YOU for being the perfect example of a village, one that we hope our children will be able to find for themselves as they grow up and move on to find their places in the world.” Heather also effuses that they have loved being part of the McLean Little League community over the years. They are thankful for such a wonderful group of families and for so many great friendships they’ve formed during thousands of hours watching ball games in all kinds of weather.
As a passionate cook, I must admit that I'm no stranger to culinary adventures. I love experimenting with new recipes, blending flavors, and creating unique gastronomic experiences. These usually lend themselves to an abundance of garlic, rich and complex sauces, and of course loaves, and loaves, and more loaves of bread.
But let me share a little secret with you: for the longest time, there was one area where I found myself finding excuses to avoid making or simply sticking to the box. You know the kind that just say add eggs and oil?
The magical world where precision and exact measurements rule supreme, and any deviation could result in catastrophe!
I used to think that even a slight misstep would lead to cakes that defied gravity, cobblers that tasted like science experiments gone wrong, and textures that could double as doorstops. It felt like a dangerous territory where creativity dared not tread. But, oh, how wrong I was!
But let me tell you, I had a revelation in my culinary journey recently. It was like stumbling upon a hidden treasure, a recipe so forgiving that it whispered, "Go ahead, make it your own!" And you know
what? I decided to throw caution to the wind and challenge my limited baking mindset.
I mean, who needs strict adherence to recipes when you can pick and choose ingredients and play with flavors? So, armed with my apron and a touch of audacity, I started substituting, adding my unique twists, and even tinkering with unconventional pans and cooking techniques.
Let me tell you, the results were nothing short of a delicious miracle, if I do say so myself! I created new variations that left taste buds tingling and had my family and friends begging for more. It's safe to say that my newfound baking adventures have opened up a whole new world of sugary possibilities.
Who would have thought this cooking rebel could conquer the land of precision and turn it into a canvas for edible art? Not me! But hey, sometimes you just have to laugh at your own apprehensions and embrace the sweet surprises that come your way.
This experience in the kitchen got me thinking about my work as a team and leadership coach and trainer. I often encounter individuals and teams struggling with this similar affliction of
limited vision of possibilities, much like my initial belief about the limitations of baking.
They approach challenges and change with rigid thinking, fearing that any deviation from the norm will result in failure. But just as I discovered in baking, embracing flexibility and out-of-thebox thinking can lead to remarkable discoveries and breakthroughs. When we allow ourselves to let go of rigid expectations and embrace a growth mindset, we open doors to new possibilities. Change becomes an opportunity for growth, innovation, and improved outcomes. It's about being curious, exploring different perspectives, and challenging the status quo. Just as I discovered new flavors and textures by experimenting with baking, teams and individuals can unlock their full potential by embracing flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to step outside their comfort zones.
As a team and leadership coach, my role is to inspire and encourage others to break free from limited mindsets. I work with individuals and teams to cultivate a culture that embraces change, welcomes diversity, fosters creativity, and encourages out-of-the-box thinking.
Together, we explore new approaches, challenge assumptions, and empower individuals to unleash their unique strengths and ideas.
By fostering a culture of curiosity and openmindedness, organizations can tap into the collective intelligence of their teams, unlocking innovative solutions and driving sustainable success. Embracing flexibility doesn't mean abandoning structure or disregarding best practices. Instead, it means recognizing that adaptation and exploration are essential for growth and progress.
So, let's challenge ourselves to break free from limited mindsets, both in the kitchen and in our professional lives. Let's celebrate the joy of experimentation, the thrill of discovery, and the power of flexibility. Who knows what amazing flavors and opportunities await us when we embrace change and unleash our creative potential? Together, let's bake a future filled with endless possibilities!
Oh and if you want to try out my recipe, see below. Please feel free to take some initiative to change it up. I’d love to hear what you did. kelly@teamleadsolutions.com
2 cups all-purpose flour
1.5 cups sugar
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
Fresh lemon zest from 2 large lemons
½ cup unsalted butter
1 15.9oz can pumpkin
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a 9” x 13” pan with parchment paper so that the opposite sides have an overhang. Or spray pan lightly with non-stick spray. Set pan aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add lemon zest and whisk again to separate and coat all pieces of zest. Set bowl aside. In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, butter lemon juice, and vanilla. Add bowl of wet ingredients to bowl of dry ingredients and stir until combined. Slowly add in pumpkin and mix with rubber spatula slowly folding into batter but don’t over mix. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Bake for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The lemon bars should spring back lightly when gently pressed. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack.
Variations to try: add fresh blueberries or dried cranberries, swap lemon juice for 3 tablespoons of honey, add 1 egg and swap ¾ cup of peanut butter for the pumpkin, add 2 eggs and swap 2 tablespoons of cocoa for the pumpkin and add chocolate chips.
Providing wellness initiatives in the workplace has become a top priority for many employers. Even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was evident the positive impact wellness offerings had on employees. Contributing factors such as higher stress levels, a disconnect from colleagues & work-related activities, and even long term health concerns came to forefront.
Now, beyond the expectation of providing both on-site and virtual wellness opportunities, (re)building retention, connection, and engagement within the community, alongside a healthier workplace, has become the next big part of the equation.
Here are 5 (easy) ways “Wellness in the Workplace” can benefit your company:
HEALTH CARE COSTS
With a well-rounded wellness program in place, it is only natural for companies to have healthier employees on their team. A healthier, happier team will result in lower health care costs, minimize physical illness & disability costs, and even enable health care premiums to decrease.
FUN FACT: Did you know your company may have wellness dollars accessible to them through their health insurance provider? While many companies are budgeting funds to go towards wellness programming, you may have access to other monetary resources by simply contacting your insurance benefits specialist or account manager.
When Wellness becomes part of a company’s work culture, employees begin to adapt a health-conscious lifestyle to their everyday lives, even outside of the workplace! Healthy behaviors promote a positive mindset which can bring clarity, more productivity, and less distractions throughout the work day.
Research shows that employees who have access to wellness programs will result in less sick days and burnout, promote higher engagement as a team, boost morale, and keep the positive vibes flowing.
Employees who work out together tend to stay together! It has been said that when an employee decides to leave a small to medium-sized company, one of the most common reasons is the lack of corporatesponsored programs. Statistically speaking, 9 out of 10 individuals consider what benefits are being offered when looking for a job, and more than half of millennials and Generation Z err on the side of wellness being extremely important.
IMPROVE AND SUSTAIN HIGH TEAM MORALE
A positive work environment is one that should be energizing, fulfilling, and where each member of the team feels valued and appreciated. As a team leader and/or wellness coordinator, when it comes to building a cohesive unit, what better way to do so than by bringing health and wellness to your company!

Prioritizing your mental health is an important goal, and summer can be a great time to focus on your psychological health, selfcare and well-being. Using this opportunity to build skills and develop good habits will allow you to make these strategies part of your daily life beyond just the summer months.
Because of the warmer weather, sunshine and outdoor time
become an important part of self-care. With the longer days, it is brighter longer, allowing for more opportunities for walks, runs, and just enjoying nature. For many young people, summer is a time for taking a break from the normal routine of school and activities. It can also be an opportunity for growth and maturation. It may be a good time to take a “personal inventory” of all things positive in your life as well as things that bring stress/toxicity. Perhaps try new activities that you did not have
time for before, allow for new experiences and new people to enter your life. Likewise, if there are things you don’t enjoy anymore or have outgrown (including friendships) this could be a time for purging or reorganizing your priorities.
Due to a more relaxed schedule, sleep becomes another area of priority and self-care. Summer schedules allow for longer sleep hours and the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate. Quality sleep is critical for mental health. Finally, summer allows for an abundance of foods to include fresh fruits and vegetables. Eating whole foods as often as possible allows for optimal gut-brain health and as a consequence, stronger cognitive and emotional regulation.
One of the main ways to build psychological and emotional regulation skills is by working with a trained professional. A mental health clinician has a set of skills that can help provide emotional and interpersonal stability as well as accountability. If you are interested in learning how to: set stronger boundaries, build resilience, adaptive coping skills and emotional regulation skills, our team is here to help. For more information, contact Gretchen, our scheduling coordinator at 703-288-3300. You can also visit our website at www.ipamclean.com
In sum, your mental health deserves attention and care all year round so that you can function optimally. The summer can be a time for building skills that will last all year long.

Small businesses are the backbone of many communities, providing jobs, goods and services, and a sense of identity. But did you know that small businesses can also have a big impact on health and wellness? In this blog post shared by NOVA Living, we'll explore how small businesses can contribute to healthier communities.
Small businesses often provide access to health services that may not otherwise be available in under served areas. This
could include anything from medical clinics to pharmacies to fitness and workout centers. By providing access to these services, small businesses can help ensure that people in the community have access to the healthcare they need.
Small businesses can also promote physical activity by offering activities such as yoga classes or running clubs. These activities can help encourage people in the community to get moving and stay healthy. Additionally, some small businesses offer discounts on gym memberships or other
fitness-related activities, making it easier for people in the community to stay active.
Small businesses create jobs that support families by providing employment opportunities for those who might not otherwise be able to find work. By shopping locally and supporting these small establishments, we can make sure that our local economy is robust enough to create more opportunities. Supporting small business owners is a quick and easy way to give more people hope and create full-time, living wage positions for families in need of financial security.
The presence of small businesses can help stabilize housing costs by creating competition among landlords and increasing demand for rental units. This competition can lead to lower prices for renters, making housing more affordable and accessible. Additionally, by allowing access to these necessary services in the neighborhood, local companies that provide services like daycares or healthcare facilities can ease the load on families.
Small businesses are often owned by minority business owners who bring diversity into the community through their products and services. This helps foster a more vibrant and diverse community, which can have a positive impact on health and wellness. Additionally, small businesses often bring new ideas and perspectives to the table that can help improve the quality of life for all members of the community.
The presence of small businesses helps stimulate local economies by bringing money into the area through taxes, wages, and purchases made at local stores. This can help create a more stable economy and provide employment opportunities for those who live in the community. Additionally, small businesses can help attract new residents and visitors to the area, which can lead to increased economic activity.

Social4Good (S4G) decided to be ambitious and support two local charities this month, offering skills to help women get back on their feet ,and move toward more positive paths.
The first charity supported was the Friends of Guest House (FoGH, friendsofguesthouse.org). Since their founding in 1974, Guest House has helped more than 5,000 women break the vicious cycle of incarceration, reunite with their families, and reintegrate into their communities. Their mission is to provide formerly incarcerated women the structure, supervision, support, and assistance they need to move beyond who they were to become who they want to be. Residents are provided with all the costs of housing, meals, and other
services at no charge and meals are nutritionist approved. S4G provided a grant for $4704 for the cost of more than one month of meals for thirty residents at FoGH.
The second charity supported by S4G was Together We Bake (TWB, togetherwebake.org). TWB is a comprehensive workforce training and personal development program for underserved and underrepresented women. The TWB program is centered around a small baking business through which women actively learn and participate in food production, food safety education, and business administration. Each woman graduates’ job-ready, empowered, and with a nationally recognized ServSafe certificate, resulting in preferential hiring and higher wages.
S4G collected 140 like-new purses and 90 belts and filled 40 purses with personal care items. The filled purses and belts will be presented to 40 TWB program graduates as they begin the job interviewing process and put together their business attire.
A social event was held at The Mather in Tysons to enjoy a “bubbly and dessert bar,” fill the TWB graduation purses to include written notes of encouragement, and learn more about TWB and FoGH. The S4G community was so generous that we were able to assist three non-profits with in-kind and financial donations totaling over $9,700! The overflow of purse, wallet, and belt donations were provided to Women Giving Back to support women in crisis who shop at WGB for clothing and

“We are so appreciative of the kindness and support that Social4Good as provided to the women of Guest House. On average, it costs about $32-34 per week to feed one guest house resident, which adds up to about $3,200 a month to feed both of our houses, a cost that continues to be on the rise with inflating food prices. The wonderful work that Social4Good has done on Guest House’s behalf, gives us space in our budget to assist with other client needs and costs, such as transportation
assistance, celebration events, and unexpected needs. We can’t thank you all enough!” Katie Shapiro, Volunteer & Development Coordinator, Friends of Guest House "Together We Bake works to break the cycle of abuse and trauma and to empower women facing barriers to progress in their lives. We help them move toward self-sufficiency through comprehensive workforce training, career coaching, and personal development. We are so grateful to Social for Good for supporting TWB's most recent graduates by providing
stylish purses!" As I entered this charming Italian restaurant, I could not help feeling as though I'd been transported to Italy. The Italian Oven has a rustic yet cozy ambiance, adorned with vintage photographs and memorabilia that speaks volumes about its heritage. The passion and authenticity that resonated within these walls, due to their family-owned establishment, has been serving traditional Italian cuisine since for over 40 years.
We were greeted warmly by the owner, Salvatore, a Naples native and football aficionado, who personally took care of our dining experience. He proudly showcased the centerpiece of the restaurant—a magnificent oven, imported all the way from Naples itself. This traditional oven was a testament to their commitment to crafting the perfect Neapolitan-style pizzas, a reputation they had built over the years.
The rest of the staff members mirrored the owner's welcoming demeanor and attentive service. From the moment we were seated, our needs were anticipated and met with efficiency. Salim, our waiter, exuded a genuine passion for the restaurant's offerings, happily answering our questions and providing recommendations tailored to our preferences. His knowledge of the menu and the ingredients used in each dish was commendable, further enhancing the dining experience.
Our culinary journey began with a delightful starter of Fiori di Zucca, delicate zucchini flowers freshly plucked from Salvatore’s garden that same morning and expertly fried to a golden crisp. The dish was an ode to simplicity, allowing the natural flavors of the flowers to shine through, enhanced by a light touch of lemon and salt.
Next, we were presented with a comforting Pasta e Fagioli, a humble yet satisfying bowl of goodness. Each spoonful carried the robust flavors of the beans, herbs, and vegetables, perfectly balanced and reminiscent of the old-world Italian countryside. Salvatore surprised us with a Pizza Bianca—crafted in the Neapolitan tradition with a medley of garlic, mozzarella, and fontina cheese.
As I took my first bite, I was immediately greeted by the aromatic allure of the garlic. The combination of mozzarella and fontina cheese elevated this pizza to another level of indulgence. The
milky richness of the mozzarella mingled harmoniously with the nutty, buttery nuances of the fontina. Together, they formed a creamy and melty layer that blanketed the crust, creating a luscious pie.
For the main course, we indulged in a selection of classic Italian dishes that showcased the restaurant's dedication to keeping everything in-house.
The Manicotti, generously filled with a creamy mixture of ricotta and spinach, was a comforting delight. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the combination of flavors was nothing short of exceptional. The dish exemplified the culinary heritage passed down through generations, with
every forkful telling a story of tradition and love.
The Ravioli di Ricotta, delicate pockets of pasta filled with smooth ricotta cheese and spinach. Each ravioli was a work of art, tender and bursting with flavor. The accompanying tomato homemade pomodoro was rich and luscious, perfectly complementing the dish.
Fettuccine with shrimp, zucchini flowers and avocado, a new addition to their summer menu is an intriguing combination that caught my attention. If you’re looking for a dish that screams "summer vibes" then this friends is for you. Its light and refreshing components of the dish make it ideal for warmer weather
and make you think you’re having a salad. Now this, as I type my mouth is watering and I can honestly say that the last time a had a Branzino this good was in Portofino 2019 with a glass of Infiné 1939 Pinot Grigio. The Branzino, a whole Mediterranean sea bass accompanied by seasonal garden vegetables and linguine marinera that offered a burst of freshness with every bite. The skin was beautifully crisp, while the flesh remained moist and flaky, revealing its pristine freshness. This dish showcased the artistry of the chef, who expertly balanced simplicity and finesse that celebrated the essence of Mediterranean cuisine.
Finally, dessert arrived.
We were first presented with a homemade Tiramisu, a classic Italian dessert, was a revelation. Layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers, luscious mascarpone cream, and a dusting of cocoa created a symphony of flavors and textures, leaving us yearning for more.
The almond flour peach tart was a testament to the skill and artistry of Salvatore, who makes 2 versions of this weekly. The tender crust encased a delectable filling of fresh peaches, lightly sweetened and beautifully balanced. Each bite transported us to the sun-drenched orchards of Italy.
Following was the imported pistachio cake, a must try . Every forkful revealed the unmistakable taste of high-quality pistachios, the richness and nuttiness dancing on our palates. The cake was moist and fragrant, a true indulgence that left us in awe. The piece de resistance was experiencing Salvatore surprising us with a theatrical display of flambéed peaches soaked in red wine. The scent of caramelized fruit wafted through the air, enticing our taste buds. Served alongside homemade vanilla ice cream, this sweet finale was the perfect culmination of a memorable meal.
The combination of a Neapolitan oven, a passionate owner, and a commitment to inhouse preparation resulted in an exceptional dining experience. From the delectable Pizza Bianca to the tantalizing desserts, each dish showcased the flavors of Italy with finesse and respect for tradition. If you're seeking an authentic taste of Italy, this restaurant is a must-visit. Buon appetito!
