HAT TRICK, FAREWELL.

The Honda Civic Type R Secures Hat-Trick at the Auto Express New Car Awards 2025

The Honda Civic Type R has claimed the coveted Hot Hatch of the Year title for the third year running at the 2025 Auto Express New Car Awards, further solidifying its status as the ultimate performance hatchback.

Now in its sixth generation, the Civic Type R continues to set the benchmark for hot hatches.

This latest win marks a hat-trick of consecutive awards—2023, 2024, and 2025—highlighting the model’s exhilarating performance, razor-sharp handling, and deep motorsport pedigree.

The Auto Express New Car Awards remain a standout in the automotive industry calendar, recognizing excellence across 27 categories. The awards focus on what truly matters to buyers, including practicality, efficiency, affordability, reliability, and of course, driving pleasure. Judged by a panel of seasoned automotive experts, the awards aim to guide consumers toward the most outstanding cars on the market.

“Honda is incredibly proud to see the Civic Type R achieve a third consecutive win as Hot Hatch of the Year,” said Rebecca Adamson, Head

of Automobile at Honda Motor Europe - UK. “These accolades highlight the strength of the Type R, and we’re now excited for what the future holds with our driver-focused hybrid models.”

Auto Express Editor Paul Barker echoed the praise: “It’s testament to the Civic Type R’s world-class engineering that it has held off some excellent competition to grab a hattrick of Auto Express Hot Hatch of the Year awards. This level of chassis balance and performance shouldn’t be possible in a family car, but it’s a wonderful combination of all that is good about a hot hatch.”

It’s a testament to the Civic Type R’s engineering that it has outperformed strong competition, noted Auto Express Editor Paul Barker.

A Celebrated Legacy Draws to a Close in Europe

While the Civic Type R continues to impress, 2025 also marks the final chapter for the iconic hot hatch in Europe. Honda has confirmed that sales of the Type R will end across the continent, as the brand pivots toward its electrified future and tightens its focus on hybrid and fullelectric vehicles to meet evolving emissions regulations.

The departure of the Type R from European showrooms signals the end of an era for performance

enthusiasts. Revered for its purist driving experience, manual gearbox, and track-honed dynamics, the Civic Type R has built a loyal fan base since its European debut in 2001. Although enthusiasts may mourn its exit, Honda has made it clear that performance will remain at the heart of its electrified strategy.

As the Civic Type R bows out from Europe on a high note—with a third consecutive Auto Express title—it leaves a legacy few rivals can match.

THE CX-5, REIMAGINED

Mazda Launches All-New CX-5 in Europe: A Refined Evolution of a Beloved SUV

Mazda has officially unveiled the all-new CX-5 in Europe, marking the third generation of its bestselling SUV. Set to arrive in the UK in summer 2026, the redesigned CX-5 blends dynamic styling, modern technology, and improved practicality to meet the demands of today’s drivers and families.

Retaining the recognizable silhouette of its predecessor, the new CX-5 pushes Mazda’s Kodo – Soul of Motion design philosophy further, offering a sportier and more confident presence. Built under the concept of “Wearable Gear,” it is engineered to feel like a seamless extension of the driver while being robust enough for adventurous travel. The extended wheelbase and revised proportions not only boost road presence but also translate into greater cabin and boot space, making it more versatile for everyday use.

Inside, Mazda has taken a significant leap forward with a more intuitive Human-Machine Interface (HMI). The cabin is anchored by a choice of 12.9- or 15.6-inch centre displays with customisable, smartphone-style functionality. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster provides key information clearly, complemented by streamlined steering wheel controls. A first for Mazda, the CX-5 comes with Google built-in, offering seamless integration for navigation, apps, and voice control. Higher trims also feature a 12-speaker Bose® sound system for immersive audio.

Designed with families in mind, the new CX-5 adds 61 litres of boot space, along with wider-opening rear doors and a flexible 40:20:40 split rear bench. The result is a more accommodating and functional interior, ideal for transporting both passengers and cargo.

The cabin layout has been thoughtfully refined to foster a sense of calm and spaciousness. A wraparound design creates a driver-centric environment without compromising passenger comfort. Depending on the trim level, buyers can enjoy premium touches such as a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting exclusive to the top-tier Homura model. Interior material options range from black and tan leather to a sophisticated black-and-white artificial leather with suede-like finishes.

Under the bonnet, the CX-5 features a newly optimised 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine producing 141ps (104kW) and 238 Nm of torque. This unit replaces the outgoing 2.0-litre engine and incorporates 24V Mazda M Hybrid technology along with a brake-by-wire system. The result is smoother acceleration, improved torque response, and enhanced fuel efficiency. The front-wheel drive model accelerates from 0–62mph in 10.5 seconds, and all-wheel drive options are also available.

Chassis and suspension updates contribute to a more composed and comfortable ride, while a

towing capacity of up to 2,000 kg ensures the CX-5 remains a capable companion for active lifestyles. The SUV is also equipped with an updated suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), with the goal of achieving a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

The new CX-5 will be offered in four trims: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura. Each offers unique interior themes and equipment levels to suit a range of preferences and budgets.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK, reflected on the model’s importance: “The Mazda CX-5 has been a landmark vehicle in our line-up since 2012. With over 100,000 sales in the UK, it’s clear that the model has earned a reputation for style, quality, and driver appeal. This new generation builds on that legacy, delivering even more refinement and versatility.”

With its upgraded design, smarter technology, and enhanced driving experience, the all-new Mazda CX-5 is poised to elevate every journey when it hits UK roads in 2026.

Nissan Qashqai Named Best British-Built

Electrified Car by EcoCar Magazine

The Nissan Qashqai has once again proven its leadership in innovation and quality, securing the title of Best British-Built Electrified Car for 2025, as awarded by EcoCar Magazine. This accolade highlights the Qashqai’s advanced e-POWER hybrid technology, which blends electric performance with the ease of traditional driving—without the need to plug in.

British Engineering at Its Best

Produced in Sunderland, UK, under Nissan’s EV36Zero initiative, which focuses on zero-emission mobility, renewable energy use, and a localised battery supply chain. The all-new LEAF combines extended range, faster charging, aerodynamic styling, and innovative technology. European development and testing were conducted at Nissan’s R&D centre in Bedfordshire, ensuring the LEAF meets local market expectations while also reaffirming its role as a pioneer in the electric vehicle (EV) market.

Built at Nissan’s Sunderland manufacturing plant, the Qashqai is a showcase of British design, engineering, and production. Editor of EcoCar, Ian Robertson, described it as “hugely versatile, comfortable, well-equipped and good value,” praising its strong efficiency and generous standard specification across five trim levels.

The Qashqai’s e-POWER system— first introduced in the UK market four years ago—delivers a unique drive. Unlike conventional hybrids, its petrol engine doesn’t directly power the wheels. Instead, it charges a battery that feeds a 140 kW electric motor, delivering smooth, quiet acceleration and an EV-like experience behind the wheel.

Major Upgrade for 2025

In 2025, the Qashqai receives a significant update, with the latest version of e-POWER now offering improved fuel efficiency of up to 62 mpg (WLTP). That’s enough to drive from Sunderland to Paris on a single tank—with over 100 miles to spare. These advancements reinforce the Qashqai’s appeal as a smart choice for drivers who want the feel of an electric vehicle without the charging cables.

James Taylor, Managing Director of Nissan GB, said:

“Our e-POWER technology is perfect for customers who want the sensation of driving electric but aren’t quite ready to go fully EV. This recognition from EcoCar is a fantastic endorsement of the Qashqai and the team who build it right here in Britain.”

Smart Choice for Today’s Driver

With the motoring landscape evolving, more drivers are seeking alternatives that lower emissions without compromising practicality. The Qashqai fits this bill perfectly— offering long range, excellent efficiency, and the confidence of petrol refuelling, all while delivering a refined and electrified driving experience.

Available Now at Norton Way Nissan

The award-winning Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER is available now at Norton Way Nissan, where customers can see firsthand why this British-built SUV continues to earn industry acclaim.

Our e-POWER technology is perfect for customers who want the sensation of driving electric but aren’t quite ready to go fully EV.

PEUGEOT Unveils Powerful Dual Motor E-3008 & 5008

PEUGEOT has launched a new Dual Motor Electric 325 powertrain for its E-3008 and E-5008 models, offering enhanced performance and all-wheel drive capability. Available to order now in an exclusive Launch Edition, first deliveries are expected from Q4 2025.

All-Wheel Drive Performance

The Dual Motor system pairs a 213hp front motor with a 112hp rear motor, delivering a combined 325hp and 509Nm of torque. This enables the E-3008 to accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.0 seconds (6.5 seconds for the E-5008), with smooth, responsive performance. Four driving modes allow for tailored efficiency and performance. Normal mode uses only the front motor unless extra power is

needed. 4WD mode provides equal power to all wheels for grip on slippery surfaces. Sport mode adds sharper throttle response and a 60/40 power split. Eco mode limits output to extend range, while still engaging both motors under heavy acceleration. Hill Assist Descent Control is standard on all Dual Motor versions.

Efficient Range & Rapid Charging

Both models use a 73kWh usable lithium-ion battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 303 miles (E-3008) and 289 miles (E-5008). DC rapid charging allows a 20% to 80% top-up in just 30 minutes. An 11kW onboard charger is fitted as standard for efficient AC charging.

High-Spec Launch Edition

The Dual Motor Launch Edition builds on the GT trim with a high-end finish and extra features. Exterior styling includes a Black Diamond roof, 20inch diamond-cut alloys, and Pixel LED headlights. Inside, there’s black Alcantara upholstery with embossed PEUGEOT shields on the front headrests, heated seats front and rear, and a panoramic opening sunroof.

Front seats offer 10-way electric adjustment, massage functions, and memory settings. A Clean Cabin system improves air quality, while ambient lighting adds to the premium interior. The E-3008 Launch Edition includes a Focal® 10-speaker Hi-Fi system for high-quality audio.

Advanced driver tech includes the 360° Vision & Drive Assist Pack with HD cameras, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and flank guard protection. Highway Assist 2.0 supports semi-autonomous driving with lane positioning, semi-auto lane change and adaptive speed features.

Growing Electric Line-up

The new Dual Motor joins PEUGEOT’s existing Electric 210 and Long Range Electric 230 versions, offering more choice for UK drivers. Following a near doubling of EV sales in 2024, PEUGEOT now offers 12 all-electric models in the UK.

Peace of Mind and Pricing

The E-3008 Dual Motor Launch Edition starts from £56,290 OTR, with the E-5008 version from £58,990. Both are backed by the PEUGEOT Electric Promise, which includes 8 years/100,000 miles of vehicle cover and battery warranty, plus access to over 700,000 public chargers through the Free2Move Charge Pass with Octopus Electroverse.

Now available to order at Norton Way PEUGEOT, the E-3008 and E-5008 Dual Motor models offer exciting performance and premium electric driving with all-wheel drive confidence.
