ORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE WEEKLY PRIMARY NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week students in Years 3 - 6 participated in the first session of weekly swimming lessons for the term. We also held our Years 3 - 6 Swimming Carnival at Splash in Craigieburn. Students represented their house teams and it was wonderful to see students cheering each other on and putting in their best efforts. Our Prep – Year 2 students will have a Swimming Carnival scheduled later in the year.
We have 3 house teams which are the Worthy Warriors (Green), Noble Knights (Purple) and Courageous Conquerors (Orange) Our House system assists to foster a family-like atmosphere within the College and provides an opportunity for students to form a greater connection with their school. Events like our sports carnivals provide an opportunity for students to experience healthy competition and motivates our students to work together and try their best.
I would like to remind all families of the importance of observing our car park safety procedures. Please utilise the designated walkway areas if you are walking through the car park. Keep your children close to you For safety, the use of scooters and bikes in the car park is not permitted. We also ask that the laneway between the school and the church is not used for pedestrian access and that you observe the one-way flow of traffic during pick up and drop off times as indicated by the signage.
We understand that from time to time, students may arrive late to school. If families arrive after 8:55am we ask that Primary School students are signed in at Reception by a parent. Our Reception staff will then escort the students to their classrooms. Parents will be asked to drop their children at Reception and then leave the school grounds.
To maintain a safe school environment, any adults in our school grounds after 8:55am must be signed in with an approved reason for their visit. Do not hesitate to speak to me if you have any questions or concerns about this process.
As we are commencing the year, I am thrilled to share that the overall attitude of our students towards learning has been incredibly positive, and I look forward to seeing each student continue to thrive in the months ahead. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teaching staff for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the growth and success of our students
Wishing you and your family a blessed year ahead.

NEW SCHOOL BAGS
Due to a change in suppliers, the College has introduced a new range of school bags with an updated design for improved comfort and durability. The existing College bags are still available for purchase through Academy Uniforms until stock runs out. Both designs meet the College uniform requirements (provided they DO NOT have the old "diving dove logo" that is now obsolete), and these are the only bags approved for student use at the College.
Please visit https://www.academyuniforms.com.au/ for more information.

STUDENTS CANNOT BE DROPPED OFF AT SCHOOL BEFORE 8:15AM
As we start the new year, it is important to remember that students cannot be dropped off at school before to 8:15am.
Teachers start supervision duties at 8:15am, therefore it is unsafe for any student to be onsite without a parent actively supervising them before this time.

PLEASE CARE FOR OUR BOOKS
We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that home readers and library books sent home with students are treated with care
Last year’s annual stocktake revealed that a number of our texts had been written on, torn, or mishandled Unfortunately, this affects the experience of other families who receive books in poor condition.
Please note that lost readers incur a replacement fee, and books that are significantly damaged will also need to be replaced We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain our resources for all students to enjoy.
Thank you for your understanding and support
Homework will be handed out on Fridays and will need to be returned the following Friday. Although students are not expected to complete homework on the weekend, having homework sent home on a Friday allows your family some extra time if you have a busy weekly routine
