PRIMARY NEWS PRIMARY NEWS
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a productive week rehearsing, and preparing sets and costumes for Shrek Jr the Musical. We are very excited for you to see your children shine in the performance. Please read through the correspondence which was sent out providing information on how you can purchase tickets to the shows
This week we had a large group of students representing Northside at the CSEN Cross Country competition. These dedicated students have braved the cold mornings to train twice a week, even throughout the holidays I would like to extend my appreciation to the teachers and Mr Burgess who have been training our Cross Country team. A huge thank you to the parents who have woken up extra early to get your children to these training sessions.
We are very proud of the students who competed!
We held our Parent Student Teacher Conferences earlier this week It is always helpful to strengthen our partnership with families when it comes to student learning. We do ask that all learning journals be returned to the College as soon as possible so that students can continue to add to them during their next semester of learning Please remember that you are always welcome to contact your child's teacher during the term if you have any questions or concerns about their learning. If needed, you can make an appointment to speak with them.
May God bless your family this weekend.
Chris Drowley Director of Primary Learning

VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE
Northside has read at least 4,150 books so far! Keep up the great work!
WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TERM 3 IN THE LIBRARY
This year the theme for Book Week is “Reading is Magic”.
Our dress-up day will be in Week 6 on Friday 23rd August which is when everyone has the chance to dress up as their favourite book character. Another way we always celebrate Book Week is the running of our yearly Book Fair The Fair will be held during Week 8 and is brought to us by Lamont Books.
Term 3 also marks the conclusion of the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge, so if your child is taking part, please make sure you have all books logged by Sunday 1st September so that our Library staff can verify all books before the site closes.
Rachel Skerry on behalf of our Library Team
*While Northside does not support or endorse the use of witchcraft or spells, the term ‘magic’ in this theme refers to “a quality that makes something seem special or exciting”. We hope that the use of this term does not detract from our celebration of reading.

LittleTreasures
Photo Challenge

“Little Treasures” is a nominated short-listed book about a young girl’s trip to the beach. She finds lots of seaweed and shells, but to her eyes they are little treasures She imagines them to be something small like a mermaid’s necklace or a big merchant ship sailed by penguins. Our challenge for those who choose to accept, is to create something out of things you might find outside This might be a boat made of sticks and grass, or it might be your own shell necklace. Take a photo of your creation and send it in to Miss Skerry Either via email or bring in a printed photo.

Concrete Garden
In the book “Concrete Garden”, a little girl who lives in an apartment building, goes outside with a box of chalk. She uses the chalk to decorate her street, and as she does, she invites all the other kids to join her Soon all the kids have drawn a great big garden on the street. When the adults look out of the windows of their apartments they can see the amazing drawings, that have lit up their grey street So why not be like the kids from this story, and brighten up our school yard together with chalk
Dance Party
In the book “Bear & Duck are friends”, Duck keeps inviting Bear to try new things, unfortunately they don’t always turn out good. This leads Bear to being scared and anxious to try new things One day Duck invites Bear to his Dance class. Bear tries to give it a go, and after failing, Duck tells him he is “thinking too hard,” and suggests that Bear closes his eyes and feel the music Bear does just that, and discovers that he can dance, & that trying new things doesn’t have to be scary So why not be like Duck, and invite a friend to our very own Dance Party
